New players should have lowest MMR possible
Some people never improve. I think it’s called PV Syndrome.
Some people have alt accounts. Especially since we had 2 big 75% off sales in a short time span.
New accounts have pretty low mmr. From personal experience after about 50 matches it finally settles. And even after that, you will still get bad matchups because of the massive influx of players and the lack of decent ones.
The issue is that ANET still seems to think that rank should play a part in matchmaking. It shouldn’t. New accounts should start at the bottom and need to work their way up.. After that, people should be matched BASED ON THEIR ACTUAL GAME PERFORMANCE.
I have a few accounts and when I got my last one, I went straight to pvp. My first game was actually with people who normally appears in tournies. I have no clue how an account that had zero games could be matched with people who have done tons of pvp and I assume their mmr is pretty high. Now imagine that happens with people who have never played the game. The system doesn’t really seem too good.
yes new players should be on the lowest MMR, this is not a game where you can go in and just be good
Okay so I think a lot of this can be due to misunderstanding of how MMR actually works. The reason new players might face some veteran players is because when you start of unranked under the system you’ll have about 1500 MMR and now the thing that determines the accuracy of your MMR is called the Ratings Deviation. That is with the current history of said player how much their MMR may deviate from that base amount. The RD affects the range of MMR a new player can face you take that amount and double it, then add and subtract it to your MMR. The base RD for an unranked player is usually 350. So when an unranked player enters they can face an between 800 – 2200 MMR. As one plays the RD will decrease and more reliable information is input leading to a more accurate MMR and less fluctuation in the range. Yeah this system might make a new player appear on your team but it is better to start off with a very generalized MMR than sticking thin at 800 MMR with like A 50 RD at that point it makes it very hard for a new player who is actually good to climb and leads to a less enjoyable time overall for them since they aren’t facing people who are actually at their skill level.
