New pvp meta game - one unbreakable setup.
About engineer: They are good in everyway, but there’s for every spec a better class. (bunker,burst,condition etc.)
On the meta your completely right… Even when I see more teams playing the setup with guard, thief, necro, ele, mesmer.
Too eles are good too but if you start to loose a point it’s hard to get it back. Atleast if the team knows how to rotate with the guard (as i see lots of team that let the guard in mid being there forever)
About the two point ruining the pvp… bunkers, ye make the game pretty static. About the portal i don’t think so. Portal is mostly used to port back to close and for lord rush. It makes the game not static and lets the close defender (here the mesmer) be able to participate. For me another tactical point, that makes it more interesting with rotating on the map.
That’s my point of view.
Maybe custome arena can solve this?
With comunity driven events & tourneys – maybe something like a tourney where nobody can have cleric, shaman, valkyrie or soldier amulet?

Where weapons/utilties amulets/runes are limited to prevent bunker setups and stuff like that.

Well we’ve beaten that setup with 2 rangers, ele, necro and guardian yesterday. Was a close match and they were a premade consisting of high ranks but still we won.
It’s a pretty solid team comp but you can outplay them.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!

Let’s sit for a minute and dispute about the current tournament meta game. Yesterday, i’ve seen a chain of round composed of 1 setup: 2 ele bunkers, 1 mesmer ( for portal), 1 guardian bunker, 1 random dps ( as long as it’s not engi cause of the low overall dmg), and honestly, that setup is unbreakable. Imagina a situation – Mesmer guarding 1 point( with possible portal for others), 1 ele bunker guarding the second one(along with the dps), 1 ele bunker and 1 guardian bunker at the point that’s the most occupied. Result? You can’t really do anything, since 2 bunkers will just kite you and push you back( taking the point eventually), and if u decide to go any other point, they just tele using the mesmers portal.
Atm in my personal opinion there are 2 things( besides unbalanced classes), that are ruining the pvp:
1. Mesmer’s portal – honestly, if you get a mesmer in your team, not only he can burst you down in a second, if he’s bad, he can just call his friends to shred you,
2. Too many bunkers – atm there is really no point running anything else, since pvp is only based on conquest, if you got f.e 5 bunkers, you are victorious, cause you can knockback enemies and capture points so easily, and even if they would try to recapture, if enemies got guardian or ele bunkers( with skill) there’s no chance you will take them down, unless you are at least 3vs1.I’m so frustrated about this game atm, even tho pve is quite amazing, pvp mode feels like it’s something just added, but not developed. Tournaments are dominated by bunkers( ele and guardian especially), hotjoin pvp is dominated by thieves and mesmers who can burst you down in 1 sec(literally), which makes it not fun for anyone that decides to play anything but a bunker build.
Edit: 1 more fun thing i noticed: Happened to me few times now – with random tournament setups, people decide to go afk( telling that on chat) cause of the 4vs5, when they spot an engineer in the team – are they really that underpowered? true that i rarely see an engineer in pvp, but didn’t think they suck that much as a profession to be the reason to go afk instantly < lol>

A lot of Teams run 2 Bunkers, but I’ve never ever seen 3 and IMHO, it shouldn’t work, because you have no DMG whatsoever.
This means that a Team with 2 Bunkers (1 Guard and 1 Ele – 90% of Teams in EU Paids run them) can def the points with your 2 Bunkers or 1 Bunker and 1 DPS on them with 1 of their Bunkers pretty easily and they still have 3 DD’s to push on one Point.
The best-case Scenario for the build with 3 Bunkers would be to keep all points neutral or get 1, give the other Team 1 and keep 1 neutral. But that’s gonna be a huge Problem on all Maps:
Nilfhel: The opposing Team will have a much easier time stealing or killing Chieftain and Svanir, because they have more DPS and with 1 Bunker on 2 Points and Portal against 3 defensive Chars, they really don’t have to fear a big push on one of their Points.
Foefire: They’ll be able to kill the Guildlord much faster than you, so they’ll probably win a stalemate. They can also safely send a Thief or sth. else to your base during the game, because they really don’t need DD’s to keep their Points capped or stop you from decapping/capping, because your Team has no DPS.
Kyhlo: Bunkers on Kyhlo can easily be killed by the Treb and if your Team is running the most common Bunker-Ele’s (not Staff, which is much worse than S/D or even D/D), they’ll also have a much easier time killing your Treb.
TL:DR – Although I haven’t played against any Team in Paids with 3 Fulltanks, I think playing with 3 Tanks won’t work, at least not against the most common build atm, which runs 2 Tanks and 3 DPS (Guard, Ele as Tank, Thief, Mesmer and Ranger/Necro as DD)
I agree with the above poster, running with 3 bunkers is strong, but having no damage can hurt you in the long run.

Most of the teams that run two eles are not speccing them both full bunker. It’s more like 1 bunker – 2 roaming/tanky dps – 2 glass cannons.
Are you guys seriously saying that engineers are bad at everything? I’m not sure you’ve played tPvP enough if you honestly think that way. I guess insta-killing a node with 100nades or having every condition in the game is bad, right? It’s the player, not the class. I mean come on, I run with a 5 engineer team for fun and we win practically every single tournament we play in with the amount of damage from nades and static discharge along with HUGE amounts of CC. Get real guys.

Probably you playing free tournaments. Please watch teldoos stream if you wanna see how the engineer is well played. And still it’s a “to be carried” class.
Engineers may need lots of fixes but they are by no means completely out of the meta. Just the 100 Nades build right now pushes them into being as competitive as any other burst build, and their condition builds combined with the Necro are probably the only way to competitively deal with a Bunker build right now. The only reason their bunker builds aren’t competitive is because the Guardian and Ele are way too strong at it.

Things which are ruining tpvp;
1. Portal, The mythical beast which is great when it’s run against your team but you’re not clever enough to run yourself for some reason.
Let’s try to counter it instead of whining shall we?
Trap Ranger; Multiple traps, dead mesmer.
Necro: Staff and Wells as soon as mesmer+Friends pop to die
Ele; 1v1? Fightan, 2v1, stay for 3 seconds for port to disappear, Gtfo You can easily traverse the entire map, your team is going to have a lot of fun on the other node which is now under defended.
Thief; Stealth or Sword 2 out, come back decap and harass the mesmer.
Engineer; Say hello to all my little friends.
Warrior; You might even 100b before the mesmer gets unlagged.
Mesmer; Chaos storm, Pull back into chaos storm Daze , Mindwrack GG.
Or just stealth/blink away from 2v1.
Guardian; Bunk and LoL.
2. WHAT..? A good 5 bunker team would almost certainly lose against a good team..
2 Bunkers 2 balanced and a spiker is probably optimal. Try it, get 5 bunkers, it’s going to work on noobs and noobteams.
Also, Engineer is a good class…
I personnaly think the 100 nade build is overestimated
The combo itself is really easy to miss/evade/block/mitigate.
Any good opponent can see when you try to 100nade them. You have to surprise them, to get the full damage.
Thief can do the same, tho single target damage, but with better mobility and easier.
Empathetic is right, even Powerr used it in competitive game, and he said it was good, but subpart for the META. Saying engineer were prolly the worse profession for pvp right now.

Engineer is subpar for Powerr, only because he plays Ele and he plays it well, Ele is ULTRA Dominant right now, if d/d s/d builds get looked at then I think he’ll be singing a different tune.
Any good engineer won’t blow his 100nades like a kitten before making sure you’re CC’d or immobilized. You might be able to see it coming, but you sure as hell can’t do anything about it haha

Running with 5 guardian bunkers sure, you would end up with little dmg, but running 5 ele bunkers would be sufficient enough to cap ( cause of the knockbacks) and hold, even possibly killing ( i’ve seen many times over the week eles running 2vs1 and managing to even kill 1 before teamates came and finished the other 1).
Instagib thieves are a problem i admit, but it’s not something you cannot manage. Bunkers are a more pressing concern atm.
I asked a friend today why he stopped playing hi engineer after reaching rank 30, and rerolled mesmer, and he replied: “because he only had 1 viable tournament dps build – 100nades, and i hate rifles – and everything else is either bugged or underpowered – condition build is the weakest of all – can’t apply more then 7-8 stacks of bleed, while f.e necros have np inflicting 12 or more, and bunker build isn’t as good as ele’s or guardians. Wanted to play a turret build when i first picked engineer, but in pvp i would only be laught at, cause turrets are useless – shredded by aoe in 1 sec, 0 ai, for example when fighting necro or ranger turret rarely focuses on the enemy, and more on the minions. Overall, combined with massive bugs, it’s the most dissapointing profession to play pvp with atm. If they fix him, i’ll prolly come back, if not, i’d stick with mesmer, ton of damage, and much more utility.”
So i guess i somewhat get his point, and understand why so few people actually play engi in pvp.
