New ranking system
I don’t think its that bad of an idea to make people play their class in unranked x amount of times, but then you have to decide how much is enough. Many times it’s not just playing your class that’s the problem it’s knowing how to play against other classes/tactics which would require more extensive knowledge to become a good player.
Also theres the problem of playing different builds. I know a lot of people that only play the meta which is fine to understand how the class should operate in the meta, but it doesn’t really teach you anything outside of that so if you were to try a new build that plays differently that isn’t strictly meta how would this system stop a player from playing something they are not used to and becoming a liability just because they changed builds? The system would recognize the player as being proficient in their class but it may or may not be true based on build.
I don’t like the idea of voting to determine whether you should be allowed to play a class based on how you did as I can see that leading to trolling. Also many players, myself included, have matches where they are just off or make a bad play. It would be a shame if said players got penalized because of 1 bad game.
Tldr: Support needing a certain number of games to be familiar with class. Don’t support voting on whether you’re allowed to play that class.
Edit: Thinking about it, without a voting system it would be difficult to determine whether you learned how to play your class based on the games you played. For example i could play an ele and try and run around and +1 people. This isn’t the smartest thing for an ele to do, but it would still count as a game played. The problem with the voting system however other than obvious trolling would be it requires players to be much more aware of not only themselves but of their teammates. Which if that were the case we may not have this problem of not knowing your class to begin with.

Maybe that just means you’re not that as good either…
I dislike the current system, I often end up in matches that contains people that
- don’t know how to properly play their class
- don’t know basics of spvp IE. fighting on point (lots of roamers trying to kill another) some teams abuse players who are like this, by capping and running off to help prevent point capping
- are just not very good at the game
now the problem is how often this occurs, you can try and get around this with a duo for bunkering mid and a decap thief
I myself would like to see a new system to help fix this, probably a new requirement system
so minimal casual matches played with a certain class, matches award say proficiency points
overtime those points degrade, so those who stop playing a class will have to play some unranked first (accounts for loss of skill)
perhaps a voting system to help determine if those players have effectively played their class, this could be how one achieves those proficiency points
that from what I can see imo would be the most efficient system, not a complete idea but still an idea!
This is what GW2 absolute needs in PvP. However this idea will be shot down by the upper leaguers. This is because this will completely crush their only legal loop hole in the system. Plus then you have the PvEers who are highly against this as well because. It would mean they would have to actually wait much much longer. Before they can start AFKing in Ranked matches for rewards. AFKing atm from what I’ve seen and hear is at a all time high in Ranked. So naturally this idea will not take root in this game.
But hey, ALL of the actually relevant PvP game’s dev teams and communities, will agree with you on this point. Pretty much why they are up and GW2 is down in the dirt far as Rated Leagues play goes. Never seen so many and as long chain of unbalanced and stacked PvP matches in my life as I did here in GW2. The funniest thing is this upper echelon of this community thinks that’s what breeds competitive PvP. When in fact there is nothing competitive about that. And the population numbers proves them and ANet wrong every single day.
But at least I admit it!
PoF guys get ready for PvE joys

In which numbers you are reffering to ?
And what next ? Balance a class when most ppl will cry about ?
The main reason why teams lose matches is bad rotation and teamplay. No matter how many unranked you play, you won’t be able to learn it unless you actually focus on it.
Letting other players vote can be abused. You don’t like someone? Convince other to vote against that person and that person would never be able to do ranked again. Same applied to someone that play unpopular build/class – say revs wound’t do so hot → everyone would vote that player out so they would never be able to do ranked again.

I’ll say this once again, these “I lost because of bad players” excuse is such BS, the very fact that you say this tells me everything i need to know about you as a pvp player.
When i lose i never blame my team, i simply load up the vod look at what happened and ask myself "what could I have done better to win this game. in 99% of cases i spot about 5-10 things that i cringe at and work on not repeating the next game.
if once again i repeat the same issues i will start to note down my repeat mistakes, then actively train them.
both teams can have bad players both teams can have good players. the only value you can change and that is consistent in ALL your matches is YOU. dont waste time avoiding the very thing you have full control over.
stay salty my friend and good luck in the “ELO hell” lottery

There are way too many people that play that think there is only one way to win a match or play a class. More often than not they are the cause for the loss because they can’t adapt to what the other 4 people are trying to do. I would break the seasons up into leagues. Make 3 leagues: bronze to silver2, silver 3 to gold 3, and plat+. If you finish the season in the top 10% of your league you move up. If you finish the season in the bottom 10% you move down.
PvP tutorial would help. Most players in up to gold 2 (included) have no idea what they are doing.

Tutorials are pointless imo. What we need is a simple bot game. They are not as challenging and wouldn’t give much rewards but they are more educational than any wall of text you can think off. I have played quite few games in the past and i found bot games are the best way to learn pvp system and practice in general (OW, LoL have those for example).

have you seen the AI in gw2???? a tutorial would go a long way for the newer pvp playerbase.

I have seen bots that people have been using to farm rank 1 on old LBs. If 3rd party can develop something like this, why not Anet?

perhaps a voting system to help determine if those players have effectively played their class, this could be how one achieves those proficiency points
Except, in addition to salty trolls spite-voting you, you now have the very people you complained about—people who don’t even know sPvP fundamentals—deciding if you did the right thing in the game. “That thief didn’t even come help me fight! He just ran around home and far turning the circles from blue to red, THUMBS DOWN!”

This exactly, a voting system would be utter trash, would kill the game for me. i dont need someone else telling me i did good or bad. if i lose the match i did bad. load up the vod and look at what i could do better.

Entry rank for each class, class lock and per class MMR and board …..
one thing that i thought might be good, is to have the matchmaking system take into account the class you are in. actively looking for varied classes to avoid 3 guards vs 3 thieves sort of matchup, your queue times would only be affected if you pick an over popular class.

I agree we need bot games.
