New vid up eSports Gaming w/ Davinci
Could be interesting to spectate & get commentary on mirror match duels between hotshots, except you script it so that people start thinking that pvp is crazy fun and awesome.
I brought this up in particular because davinci wanted to talk about 3 situations, so if you made a video which had arranged highlights for each of those then it would give the viewers something to attach the words to visually.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
Looking forward to watching this actually. I enjoyed the vids with Khalifa and 5 Guage.
Thanks guys, @mbh: I will see if I can incorporate more of this in the next few vids. I’ve toyed around with it a bit for traits (more like small screens that pop up), and I’m not entirely sure that I’ve gotten that portion (traits in general) of the videos exactly to where I want it to be aesthetically either. But I agree, as most gamers tend to be visual learners (including myself), it would make sense to provide visual content to match what is being said.
A really good idea to interest ppl in PvP and also a good support to casuals and beginners. Keep it up!

And this is the reason everyone in EU runs useless selfish builds…
Most NA Guardians and even top EU guardians run the 0 0 10 30 30 build with cleric’s amulet.
I’m pretty sure Azshene from EU runs that exact same build.
0 0 10 30 30 provides more team support than a 0 0 20 30 20 build. What the latter build does provide is slightly more toughness to the Guardian himself, however the best way to optimize for being a bunker guardian is maximizing the amount of support you have.
Watching your VoDs, I see that you run with sword/shield + mace/focus… You aren’t providing very much team support. Instead, you’re providing yourself with an excess amount of survivability which, in most situations, is not needed (since you won’t be the main target).
I havn’t had time to watch the whole video yet, but there are some improvements that come to mind and are easily adressed.
1. You might want to turn up the volume for your own mic. It’s still a little low.
2. As for speaking in general you sound bored and not very enthusiastic, something that is really contagious on the viewer.
Just basic stuff that could be improved
EDIT:
I liked the video editing, it kinda brings some life to the show.
For instance the slow-zooming or the popup-icons when he mentions previous game experiences, as well as the clickable-graphic stuff.

i’ve never played guard but found that interesting, would be cool if they had a fight 1vx or 1v1 at the end though

I would like to try and get a few EU players on the show in the future (maybe at least 1 EU and 1 NA for each class?), as the metas are a bit different. Do you have any suggestions of which EU players I should try to get?
For those of us work blocked, which classes were covered? And are there other related videos to these covering other classes or highlighting some of the better aspects of s/tPvP?
Most of the videos I see are all WvW and they’re all giant seas of red and blue coliding into a giant mass of randomness that no one can follow.

Classes/builds covered so far: 100 nades engi (with Chaith), d/d power necro (with khalifa), bunker guard (with Davinci)
Classes/builds planned to cover this month (so far): trap (or) BM ranger, HGH engi, dps (oppa) guard.
Eventually we’d like to have multiple builds up for each class, as far as future content goes, the guides series is the only thing we’re working on at this point for GW2. I may pitch some ideas to my bosses later on after I get atleast 1 video up for each class, and there may be reviews of new content and features when they are released.

I have a few things to add to this discussion:
- Pure of Voice gives large amounts of AoE vigor, this means it’s super important in Guardian bunker builds. 302020 was the first bunker most people ran but it was ditched for Pure of Voice.
- Running the old EU meta build (SwSh / McFc) has a lot less team support or control than the current Meta for both regions due to weapon selections.
Examples of this are no Empower (420power/420condi aoe), no Chains of Light (best set-up for a spike in the game) and no Banish. - Toughness suffers from diminishing returns above 2.9k and although specing to about 3.2k can drastically reduce auto-attack damage, if you keep specing you actually are losing a lot of points that could be invested elsewhere.
The EU and NA current bunker meta seem to be very similar. Hope this cleared some things up so there’s less arguing.

Honestly, he should save it for when the game has PvP worth promoting. But that’s just my thought on the matter. Getting people into low population stale/bad PvP won’t get the game much further. Its Anets next move (as it has been since launch) before the PvP population can really support them.

True, I just wanted to get some credible educational vids out there to at least minimize the barrier of entry for sPvP so that if people wanted to get into it PvP in GW2, they wouldn’t have to spend excessive time theorycrafting/looking for a build that fits their playstyle (which is hard to do over the internet right now).
The timing is also to correlate with the upcoming leaderboard implementation, some people might be coming back from extended breaks and will be wondering which builds are being used these days.

Your posts reek of ignorance. It’s pretty obvious you just slapped stuff together hoping it would work out without devoting a single minute to actually crafting a a sensible build.
First of all, I watched your stream regularly while I played in EU, it’s pretty clear you don’t know what your buttons do, as you generally spam spells in the wrong situations. Secondly, even if you build was “the best in EU” there are 5 different maps in the tournament rotations, each of which have different objectives, you can’t possible hope to be competitive and use the exact same build for every map.
Thirdly, I will break down your traits & utilites, since Silven already explain why the weapon sets aren’t ideal.
- Valor
- Purity: good choice.
- Honorable Shield: also good choice given that you use shield and you’re willing to go deep into this tree.
- Altruistic Healing: lolwtf. You don’t have a build that benefits too much from this; you don’t have anything that can apply a lot of boons often. Your boons are:
- Shield of Judgement: will heal you for up to (77×5=385) or (77) every 24s.
- Ray of Judgement: will heal you for up to (77×3=231) or (0) every 25s.
- “Stand Your Ground!”: will heal you for up to (77×2×5=770) or (154) every 24s.
- “Hold the Line!”: will heal you the same as SYG every 28s.
- “Save Yourselves!”: will heal you for (77*7=539) every 48s.
- Virtue of Justice: will heal you for up to (77×3×5 + 77=1232) or (308) every 25s.
- Virtue of Resolve: will heal you for up to (77×5 + 77=462) or (154) every 50s.
- Virtue of Courage*: will heal you for the same as VoR every 75s.
- Might of the Protector: this is actually an extremely strong trait that can heal you for a lot if you time your shelter right, which, from looking at your VoDs, you don’t.
- Vigorous Precision: will heal you for (77) every crit you land.
- Adding all these up gives you a total of 4,851, that’s 33.5% of your total HP, that’s very little compared to the numbers you can get with a build that would actually take advantage of AH.
- Honor
- Superior Aria: good choice. Pretty much a must with any shout build.
- Pure of Heart: lolz. Your Aegis will heal you for 729 every time it’s broken. Given that, the only source of Aegis you are using is VoC, this is only going to proc every 40s if it’s off CD, at 50% HP, or when you rally (getting ressed doesn’t count).
- Virtues
- Vengeful: This is a terrible trait for your build. Firstly, you only have 5 sources of retal, with very should duration/long CD. Secondly, retal scales off Power, and you are running minimal Power. So your retal ticks are gonna be hitting for 176.35; that tickles.
- Absolute Resolution: good choice.
Before I finish, I want to say that all the calculated numbers above are based on the Healing Power on your build. The numbers on the left are if you’re entire team is around, the numbers on the right are if you’re by yourself, which is most of the time seeing as you’re always sitting on backpoint. Additionally, you will get absolutely destroyed by condi builds, you have low condi removal with very low HP.
While you may think you have the “best build in EU” I assure you, the build is garbage and you don’t even play it in a way to take advantage of the traits that you pick. And even if the build were good, you still play like garbage.
So before you start picking on other people’s builds and claiming yours as the best, take a few minutes and actually think about what you’re doing and how you’re doing it, because I’m telling you right now you may think you’re a hotshot, but you won’t even come close to winning against any NA teams with that.
Well stated.
Nice vid, thanks for doing this

I personally ALWAYS want a bunker guardian I play with to run staff and mace/focus. I really dont see why you wouldnt take these weapons? Not that I play guardian….but I wouldnt want a hammer guardian with scepter shield on my team lol.
Good video though Volume though is my feedback. Too quiet. Very good though gj guys.

There is no such thing as correct. I was just saying I would always want a guardian I was with to run those weapons. Personal opinion.

The scepter is good because u can immobilized ur opponent, making it easier for ur team to spike down targets and the hammer is also useful for doing this and better. Also good for neutralizing a point when u need it. But if u want more support for team staff ia good,it also gives all ur teammates 12 stacks of might.
Zulu OxTactics[Zulu]
U r right is all just personal preferences.
Zulu OxTactics[Zulu]
There’s no such thing as EU/NA specific meta bunkers. A lot of bunker guards run very different builds. Some focus on condi clears, others on point denial/stability, it all comes down to your own team setup. When I bunker I run 0/0/30/20/20 and with hammer or staff/scepter or sword+shield. Overall bunkering isn’t that difficult honestly and it all comes down to personal playstyle and preference basically. For example I’ve always preferred shelter instead of signet and I run minimalistic buffs and no converts in the fear of necros. Purely personal preference, I like low CD and the most vital buffs.
- Toughness suffers from diminishing returns above 2.9k and although specing to about 3.2k can drastically reduce auto-attack damage, if you keep specing you actually are losing a lot of points that could be invested elsewhere.
Any proof?
nice video man, I been trying out the other classes and tried guardian but its a lot to learn fast. My traits were a lil off, I ran the 0/0/30/30/10 with sce/shi and staff for 1st time and not too different than yours, I was thinking more of denial type.
I’ll give yours a go though, and just ignore the haters.

You can actually take various wep sets for this build, we had a part at the end where Davinci explained taking different wep sets to each map, and changing out 1 or two traits to facilitate these swaps. But I had to cut that part out because it was simply too long :/.
What do you like about the show? I love that you can learn something, and I love general idea.
What could be improved? As people said before you can put your volume up, first video I could barely hear you on max. Also I think limiting video to 10-12 minutes would be nice.
Which players would you like to see in future episodes? Anyone willing to share their build.
Which builds/classes would you like to learn? Well believe it or not, I have goal to reach champion title with every class. So far I’ve finished warrior and now I’m 100+ wins on my ranger. The next class I want to play is guardian bunker so you already have what I want xD.
Does my voice annoy you? No your voice is actually fine.
I would like to add something. In future you could organize 1v1, 2v2 tournaments. When custom arenas come we will be able to enjoy without disturbance and you can create something like that. I hope you don’t limit yourself to just build videos, but also expand to other types. I subbed to your channel and wish you best.
To clear up some more things:
- I meant armour not toughness (my bad), armour suffers from DR above around 2.9k, the maths is on the Guardian forums.
- A Guardian’s job is not to purely bunker but to play the support role too. This means the scepter is one of the most amazing weapons you can bring. Chains of Light is the difference between your ally landing 4k damage and 18k damage.
Saying you’re not going to bring a scepter/shield Guardian just means you don’t understand how a the Scepter works. - The hammer is if you want damage and control on your bunker, the hammer can take the middle from other players easily, although it’s fine to swap between staff and hammer depending on how your team plays it’s really silly to say it’s a bad weapon.
- There is such thing as optimal builds, irrelevent to a playstyle, for example if you run meditation heals on your Guardian Bunker you’re actually not going to have a good day. Doesn’t matter how good you are or what your ‘style’ is, a good player is good at their class not 1/4 of their class. So saying well I like AH better it suits my style and you’re dropping indomitable courage or abs resolution is like saying “Here have the point I’m bunkering I don’t want it”, you may live but you’re going to get controlled off.

I just tested this theory and I’d love if you could point me to that math on the guardian forum, so I could clear up some misunderstandings and misconceptions. Armor scales linearly without diminishing returns.
The false conclusion is probably that people expect armor to reduce damage by X points for every Y armor they add, when in reality this is not how scaling works. Instead for every X armor you add, you reduce the damage by Y% in a linear fashion (if damage reduction scaled differently, you could reduce damage to zero given enough armor).

Is there any reason why you think that is the best build, and that shaman’s is a good amulet?
And why is focus a good off-hand to bring, and why sword?
Acandis dissected your build and told you why it’s not very viable (using numbers to prove his point)
Silven already explained to you that there are diminishing returns on armor values over 2.9k…
He also explained that Scepter is invaluable just because of that ‘almost’ instant immobilize that can be game-changing if used correctly.
Focus brings nothing to a teamfight except more survivability for yourself as well as a very gimmicky blind that rarely lands.
Please try and make some credible points. There’s no need to make this about EU vs NA, because you clearly don’t represent the best EU has to offer. At least, I hope not :/

Well, why focus? more survivability to you (how selfish these bunkers are!!), It’s in most cases a safe-stomp (if no stability is up), it’s soooooooo much easier to cap shrines on temple or orbs on SW. Is it really that bad?
Why Sword? It’s an instant port if you being knocked out of the point, it’s a blind, you are 3 secs immune to projectiles. And the best part: your third attack on it will hit 3 times. If you put +5% crit-chance on it this means you have 30 – 40% crit-chance. If you traited right you get vigor on crit-hits. Ergo you dodge more, ergo on every dodge you heal nearby allies.
That’s just my point of view and relies on my gameplay. So the good thing about bunker guard is you can pretty much trait everything. The only thing that is really necessary is “Pure of Voice”. No need to bash ppl down because they have a different meaning.
Gtfo of here the scaling for bunker stats is broken It’s cheese. Why don’t you play something that takes skill then you can post a video. This just promotes being a db.

Most people prefer to run bunker/support rather than a pure bunker, just pure of voice to support means you miss out on Chains of Light, Banish, Sanctuary and Empower. If you know you’re going to win every fight without support then sure have more toughness to stomp, but I don’t understand the wasted points in Condition Damage. You can actually put out a lot of pressure with Cleric/Knight and I think Inner Fire/Blind Exposure are much better traits than Honourable Shield, you can still get the perma vigor from Vigorous Precision while playing more support.

Most of the time, vs. good players, the focus block won’t allow you to cap buffs.
“Why Sword? It’s an instant port if you being knocked out of the point, it’s a blind, you are 3 secs immune to projectiles. "
So you’re bringing sword to compensate for your lack of map awareness (i.e being knocked off point). You’re also bringing it for some more self-survival (3 seconds of projectile blocking).
If you put 5% crit chance on the scepter, and pop smite in the middle of the node or a teamfight, that’s ALOT more hits than the third hit on the sword 1, ergo a lot of vigor procs, ergo you dodge a lot more, ergo you heal your allies.
What you DON’T get with sword is an almost instant immobilize which allows YOU to cause pressure on the opposing team.
No, you can’t pretty much trait anything. There are optimal builds which give the most leeway to perform well in most situations in TPVP.
I hate to say it but bunkers are one of the hardest classes to play in the game. It’s one of the most important jobs and THE most under appreciated job. A good guardian wins games.
Of course it helps if one or more nodes is controlled by a player that has to be burned down by 2+/5 to remove them with the same spawn time but don’t kid yourself about it being skillful. Just think if you had 5 bunk guards then they would need at least 10 players to win. It isn’t just guards any class that goes bunker is cheese because the scaling is kittened up.
Lol I’m sure all the other bads that play bunker will agree with you. I didn’t say it didn’t help win games I said its cheese and only trash players/guilds go that route.

YOU ARE NOT THE INVENTOR OF WORDS!!! lol

Maybe against pugs who don’t realize they can focus the same target.
Short of that though… that’s the silliest thing I’ve heard today.

I guess every good team that has ever played this game is trash…
It’s not just about holding a point. It’s coordinating CC with your team’s burst. It’s peeling. It’s managing to get off stomps and reses. There’s so much to bunker Guardians that is underestimated, especially in the EU meta.

This is why cross-region competition needs to happen. Seeing the clash of styles in action would be fun / different.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
QFT.
Even with all that the stress of being in the middle of a teamfight and attempting to survive against a metric kittenload of stuff flying around from all directions WHILE having enough situational awareness to actually help your team with meaningful CC is incredibly difficult.
