So i just wanted to be answered to the million dollar question: are we getting the custom servers and ladderboards on the next patch? we have been waiting for long now since release, been said this features would come; and we have waited just like childrens waiting for Santa. The people is getting really annoyed for not having a custom server to practice or even to test range on certain abilities on certain maps. The e-sport goal is nice, we all want it. Wont happen with more pve-event. Give us the solid tpvp community this answer, keep our hopes up.

Sincerely, Sadcleric ( TNT)

They just cant’t keep the secretism on this matter. An official post with a release day for custom servers and stuff is needed, the people is fleeing to other games, even those whom had hope for this to be an eSport.

The number 1 prio should be the ranking system with matchmaking, without this they loose more and more player day after day. Not enough that tpvp is pointless now but without ranking system its not even fun when we need to fight against teams what beats Team Paradigm too.

yep..

yep.. all games will be interesting and more enjoyable if we face opponents of same skill level.
REst of game is fine and playable.. the fact that you even have very easy wins or no chance to win at all make the game looks like in bad shape.. but thats not true.

e-sport?
With what audience?
Who, besides Anet themselves would sponsor a crowdless e-sport?

Balance is one thing, but an e-sport requires spectators.
First of all this game hardly has any viewers on the streams, and worse than that you can’t make out what they are doing anyhow as an outsider…

Not saying this will never happen, but at the moment there simply is no audience for any serious sponsor to make advertising money on.

Even if they balance it all in a single patch, and even if they introduce serious ladders, custom servers and all that. Than they still need that audience to show up.

Just like the actual balance, it seems to be a slow progress to be made.
And personally I’m not sure if the game will make it in time…

Anet launched gw2 with pvp in basically alpha, maybe early closed beta state. To get to e-sport, it needs about one year of constant and frequent updates which won’t happen because in that time no one serious will play said pvp. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

Sure this game needs a lot of work for it to become an e-sport, but they have plenty of time, imo. This game has a great foundation and some of the best combat mechanics for an mmo. People can leave if they want to, but if a-net adds some of the missing pvp features, people will come back. Without a subscription, people will log back in just to check things out, and if they like what they see, they will stay. Not many games become an esport as soon as they launch. LoL for example.

PS- We could be a little more patient and positive about the game. A big update each month is a lot more than most mmo’s. Wow only gets a new pvp map in a new expansion. If your unhappy with the game right now, just take a break for a while.

E-sport usually means that there are people watching it. SC matches for example are entertaining to watch. Why? Because most people play it at lower level, find it fund and want to see how pros doing it.

First, you have to have sizable audience of players enjoying it. Then you have to have matches entertaining to watch.

I just don’t see anyone watching a bunker standing in circles.

For export tPvP needs to a) gain audience b) move away from “bunker/burst” gameplay. The very least it needs is to move away from standing in circkitten ring gameplay.

E sports games need a huge casual player base in pvp.
With many players leaving the spvp scene or stopped playing the game, anet really needs to implement player friendly features and update class balance/bugs and pvp content more aggressively.

e-sport?

Who, besides Anet themselves would sponsor a crowdless e-sport?

This is pretty much the issue. One of the main reasons GW1 had a pretty good player base in the beginning is that they themselves had tournaments. I don’t know about you guys but getting the chance to go to Germany or Taipai as well as winning a good chunk of money was what made it interesting.

So why not do this for GW2, a game they claim they want to make an esport? Throw some money at it and people will show interest otherwise why would “pro” gamers play a game you cant make money at when they can play LoL and SC2 and try to win cash.

The other thing that holds pvp back is the whole heart of the mists zone. I’m surprised there arent more complaints about this but its just so messy, unnecessarily spread out, and confusing. Consolidate that thing. Put the NPCs together and cut 75% of that map out, its so unused. Why is the tournament guy so far from the hotjoin guy? Why are the vendors so far from the test dummies and why are the test dummies so far away? It’s not very user friendly, I mean I played in beta so I learned where all that stuff was and to make it easier then, there were actually people in there so you could see where the important stuff was, just follow the people.

Imagine you were a new player now looking to get into the scene. You’d go there and it would already feel dead and empty, where are the people? You would also have to take 15-20 minutes just to find where you were supposed to go when all you want to do is play. The menus could use a bit of streamlining too, the tournament menus work but feel as dead as the zone is. Why not show all the tournys going on and who is playing in them so you actually get the impression people are using them. I guess part of the problem with that is that guilds are not involved in the pvp process at all so the list of who’s playing would be a list of individual players, but that’s another problem all together. My big suggestion would be to make that zone user friendly, cut the zone by 75%, put the NPCs that get you into the action in the middle and put the other NPC’s in a circle around them.

No, the next patch will not magically make GW2 an e-sport. Even if all of the e-sports infrastructure was released, it still wouldn’t make the game an e-sport. That would take time to develop.

Games become eSports because they are supported by a large community. Adding new features in the next patch does not change the fact that Guild Wars 2 could still fail to become a successful eSport.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect a complete overhaul of tPvP in a single patch. I think I’d actually prefer if they released improvements little by little in shorter periods of time to at least show that some love is being put into it. We all saw the rage at the lack of fixes in Lost Shores.

I could care less about new features as long as the gameplay is so non-e-sporty. I can’t imagine any e-sport flair evolving when the game is all about button mashing, killing in one second and then trying to execute your victim for 30 seconds while losing half your life.

I wouldn’t expect too many PvP or even balance/class/bugfixes until 2013.

ANet’s plans were always PvE events in Oct, Nov and Dec. So their efforts are now focused on the Xmas event for now. After “event season” is finished, maybe then they can start looking at more general features/fixes.

If this is true i see a massive getaway :p, people is just getting tired even those patience ones, myself included. There is a real chance for having a rpg third person game on the e-sport scene, we thought it could be GW2. IF they truly focus on pve this game will be a pve game with some pvp candys, nothing else. It`s a shame they are loosing the opportunity, maybe in a short time there is other company who realize this and take the correct decissions.

I hope so, I have given up on play GW2 due to their statements which they have broken time after time, they need more staffing in the PVP team, notwithstanding that they must be COMPETENT (not what I see). I hope Anet realises their deficiencies soon or another company clone this game and correct those deficiencies for them.
