I should be the only one that play PvP for fun. The only I care is about rank, you know, it’s like leveling something. Of course, if the game reward me with other things, it’s ok, but with a limit to prevent PvE farmers.

1. Why hate PvE farmers? I cant think of a downside with having loads more people populate games to help queuing for games not take as long and they be most likely worst than me at it. Its the equivalent of ppl in pve hating “noobies” for coming and keeping their game alive…

2. NeHoMar, phonetically at least (and probably deliberate) similar to Ni hao ma, which is how we used to catch chinese gold farmers back in the day. Love it.

We removed glory and match reward chests early to prevent a flood of PvE players from coming into PvP just to fill their wardrobe. While the our team would LOVE everyone playing PvP, some super smart economist peopleguys said it would have negative repercussions on the in-game economy or something.

It’s really unfortunate that we had to do this, but we explored other ways of handling it and nothing was really feasible except holding wardrobe back until the next feature pack (which also meant holding back lots of other PvP changes) or removing some of the PvP rewards for a month.

So you could not have increased the rank points considerably and increased the silver/gold reward per match?

I play all aspects of the game, PvE, WvW and sPvP. You could easily have made spvp as rewarding as running dungeons in terms of gold until the new rewards system was put in place. That would not of affected the economy, just given players a choice between run a dungeon, play a spvp match.

Also, well I congratulate Anet on employing a economist to avoid hyper inflation and items becoming worthless. I would balance your economists views vs player retention.

Since glory was removed I have played 0 games of spvp because there is no rewards, no point me playing. I will NOT be stepping foot into spvp until a proper reward system is in place with stuff that I desire, I need a goal to work towards, atm I have no goal, nothing to incentivise me to play spvp.

O.o Ok. Running a dungeon, and playing a hotjoin match should in no way yield equal rewards. The PvP reward system is not intended to act as an alternative farming method for PvE players. A PvP reward system is to grant PvP exclusive players or players whom otherwise play PvP primarily a means to acquire aesthetic and functional rewards. The threat of you not stepping foot into sPvP is hardly a priority concern, imo. If you’re not PvPing for the sake of PvPing, and trying to make a buck in the quickest way possible, you should stick to PvE and WvW please.

To be honest, Justin’s confirmation doesn’t even comes as a real surprise to me.

The moment the wardrobe and the new dye systems were announced, I immediatly understood why the removal of the old pvp rewards came as soon as they came. It would have made pvp very exploitable by the farming community.

It might seem a bit bad to us fellow pvp players, but I believe this “sacrifice” will ultimately be better for us reward-wise: the day the feature patch comes, it will be us, the pvp players, that will have half or more of the wardrobe filled. No pve player will ever come close to how many skins unlocked, except the odd few that have unlocked plenty of bank slots for the sake of storing their skins. This will give us an edge, especially when it comes to rare skins. While the pve community will have to spend hundreds of gold to get some of their favourite skins, chances are, some of those have already been unlocked by us.

It would be unfair if, the month before the patch hits, pvers were to flood pvp just for the sake of easy skin/ dye farming, and end up with as many – or almost as many – skins and dyes unlocked as we have gathered over the year and a half playing pvp.

So ultimately, this change will allow us to preserve our edge on wardrobe completion, which is the only thing we have, reward-wise, over what pvers (crazy exceptions aside) have. Even if it comes at the cost of a month without rewards.

TL;DR
By locking us out of meaningful rewards for a month, the value of our old rewards will actually increase and become a lot more meaningful, due to the fact that pvers can’t just come to pvp now and get what we already have.

So I can say that, ironically, we are being rewarded better by being less rewarded.

Why not hotjoin requires more skill then speed running the exact same dungeon for the 1000th time, honestly I bet some players could run dungeons blindfolded by now.

But I meant have only that level of reward in this ‘interim’ period ie from the day glory was removed till the 15.4.14.

Obviously winning a team game would equal 1 dungeon run in gold. 3/4 that amount for solo queue. 1/3 that for hotjoin.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me until the new rewards come in.

What I mean by that is why wait more than a week after the patch hit to tell us. I can understand not saying anything before the 18th now so you can avoid a influx of last minute pves

We had to wait for wardrobe to be announced so we didn’t spoil the surprise for the people that didn’t already figure it out. I meant to mention two days ago, but was so busy I forgot to necro the thread. Sorry.

And to add onto this point further, not only would the influx of pve players have to, first and foremost, WIN a tournament match to get these mystical rewards, but each skin is only a chance of being dropped from the reward chest. So going for a specific weapon or armor skin is a challenge in itself requiring multiple pvp tournament wins, from inexperienced pvp players. Why is it that when theres a potential patch that might make the pve community a lot of money that rewards arent shut down in pve for a month prior to avoid that influx of pvp players that might throw off the economy? seems only fair right?

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but PVE players got their rank 50 and the millions of glory + skins during the months (close to an year) of skyhammer farming.

You should poke through the PvP Locker and have a look-see. There are several skins that are worth 200g+ on the TP atm. (Dwayna’s bows, PvP Fiery Gladius, etc..) I think that’s where the concern comes in in regard to skins.
Again, the skins (though superficially the “reason” for the removal of glory) weren’t the real issue. The issue was dye manufacturing. They could have simply removed Consumable Tokens, and left glory as it stood until the implementation of a new reward system.

Exactly that. Dyes skyrocketed beyond belief with a price increase of up to 10.000 % for once cheap dyes. Yet they didn’t see the impact of a refund of double dyes with unidentified dyes.

Example: You have one character for each class, so overall 8 toons. Now you buy a cheap dye for the cost of 50 copper for each toon. Let’s assume you did this for 50 cheap dyes (and there were many more). This means that you will get a refund of 350 unidentified dyes (7*50), as each double dye will be refunded. Unidentified dyes will rise in their value due to increased difficulty to get them. If you assume that those dyes sell for a net of 30 silver, you have just made a profit of 29,5 silver per color or 103,25 gold for this example. Or you could just sell the dyes you bought earlier now with a profit of up to 10.000 %.

I do understand why they removed the pvp rewards early on (which does not mean that I agree), yet I do ask myself how their economics experts could overlook that.

If I were free of timely restrictions and RL responsibilities, I would immediatley have gone berserk on the dye market (as quite a few did).

I too want to share my frustrations about getting no significant rewards in pvp. When Glory got removed, an increase in rank points was supposed to fill that gap. While I wasn’t very enthusiastic about that change, I assumed the rank up chests would be compensating for the removal of Glory and match win chests. Until I opened my first. Seriously, rank up chests are a joke, right? They must be. April Fools’? Good one, guys. I’m looking forward to the real rewards for my pvp endeavors since March 18.

If those rewards are not coming, at least admit that the whole Aftermath patch was a mistake. All it did was take stuff out, without compensating in any way. LA is simply empty and pvp is simply not worth the effort.

All economy and mechanics considerations aside, “the final chapter in the first Living World story arc” has been one big anticlimax that could have been easily avoided.

… A story arc that was awesome, by the way. Which makes it all the more a shame.
