No more weapon swapping during game?
yep, that sucks, had to play whole kyhlo without dagger offhand (as an ele) cuz I didn’t swap in time…

This begs the question, is this intended or not? There is already a mechanic to keep people from swapping gear while in combat, so why make it apply to the entire match? I think that it may be unintended.
I hope this is intended. i always thought that swapping items and gear out of combat was ridiculous. Also i hope this also prevents people from logging out and back in with a different character during a tournament!
Great job arenanet, now all you need to keep being great is to keep on implementing the good features GW1 had (this being one of them)
I hope it’s intended. The amount of weapon swapping necessary for optimal play was a bit ridiculous. Most weapons that boosted mobility were just swapped in to move around the map and never actually used in combat. Now there’s actually a trade-off necessary for mobility if the weapon must remain equipped.
Even though I abused the heck out of the swapping, I think this is a great change that was hopefully not an accident. I know that most competitive players have been under the assumption that it would eventually be this way so it shouldn’t cause too many ripples.

So that people aren’t able to switch to weapons for swiftness/movement abilities and thus devalue the attractiveness of builds that use that weapon primarily.
I’m pretty much certain is intended and I think it’s a good change.
i hope this isnt intended due to the ammount of skill this brings into games, changing stuff depending on certain situations. first rez timer, now no switching? you trying to make this game designed for……

If anything I think you should still be able to swap while in the spawn area. I think strategic changes should be allowed but I don’t think you should be able to use weapons purely for movement abilities, that does not bring skill into the game.
Can we just have the loading screen bug back, please?
Because you just took a huge portion of skill out of the game.
engaging different situations is alot down to reactions/brain(analysing the fight quick before you open)
if they make it like this, they’ve reduced the skill even LESS to play guild wars, how will top players be top lol?
I love this change…. means that people cannot switch stuff in middle of a game to counter each individual they fight!!!!!!!!

Pretty heavy nerf to any class that doesnt have great movement abilitys on primary weapons I know my guardian will be next to useless for anything other then bunker now.
anyone noticed naked mesmer illusions?

+1 No swap classes Its nice, No swap amulets Its nice, no swap weapons GG anet xD, you’re doing BAD.

This.
This game is getting more and more stupid. Instead of putting the things everybody wants (Observer, Ladder, Private matches, etc) they just kill their own game with this non-sense updates.
Nobody was complaining about this, and it gave more diversity and mobility to the game.
I seriously don’t get it, but this is getting hilarous; they don’t have the time to create important things, but they do have it to ruin the few things that work on the game.
I don’t know what else to say, I’m wordless right now, I feel this guys are teasing me.
Is this during TPvP only? I haven’t had this problem during SPvP.
I don’t agree that this takes skill out of the game. Opening inventory, double clicking to another weapon using an ability and then double click swap back to exploit the benefit of every other weapon in your arsenal was just clunky and defeated the purpose of having only two weapons to swap between. Weapons should be locked in just like traits are. Good change, I’m all for it.
more skill removed from pvp with this..
my team took pride in learning counters, and actively switching things before engagements etc took knowledge and skill.
RIP ooc swapping
PZ
how come high QP players are whining?
forcing you to decide your build before, and not during the game is so unskilled?
impressive

no one cares about that, its the fact we cant utility and trait swap that matters. Hope everyone enjoys being legitimately hard countered pre match with nothing you can do about it

I disapprove of this patch. Although I find the amount of weapon-swapping required totally absurd, they should at least allow weapon swaps if the abilities linked to the weapon are NOT ON COOLDOWN. Not downright ban weapon-swapping.

u for it? dont make me laught im mesmer, and im playing with almost 6 weapons during a tournament, now i gona play with static build? xDDDDDDDDD aueaeua gg anet second time.
next time? cant change utilitys? elit?
in gw1 there was the BALANCED build , maybe with this fix , gw2 meta would evolve in that way.

What are you talking about? There is still alot you can do like switching who holds backpoint. If you get outcomped oh well change where people go.
Mesmer / Elemntalist / Ranger
sux being the most feared team out there now everyone will only be set to try and counter us.

BIG GW2 TOURNAMENT INC SPONSORED BY URTFC.COM
Ok so i basically have to play staff ele in tourneys to take advantage of the aoe swiftness buff in the build? How in the world do people think this promotes skilled played and build diversity? If this was intended next they will probably be locking utilities and traits too. GG casuals.

It does bring some interesting theory into play, such as traiting 30 into water and sharing swiftness/fury on aura with your team, assuming you are an auramancer. However, I don’t think this change is necessary.
Ty Anet for this great fix!
We need more GW1 bonanza in this game, build locking is another step in the right direction, with this change finally all professions are brought more in line with what balance should be.
Having more options does not means requiring more skill, sometimes it’s the opposite. For example, in this case, it adds complexity to build making, because you must now make more choices, instead of having a very clunky third weapon swap to all your needs.
I can see it now, no one loads into tpvp maps until the last second and weapons/builds are locked, might as well take out the 3 minute timer before hand, since the majority of the strategy is removed to try and counter play the enemy. The meta will turn into a stale and stagnant mess without any room to change things up and make things interesting.
I can handle nerfs and all that, but making the game simpler instead of more complex and deep is a no go.
Lost second round of Paid tounrney after i was stuck in staff and couldnt go back to daggers, plz reverse this.

If you go staff..do not enter situations where daggers are preferred and if you can’t use staff as good as daggers…don’t go staff in the first place.
I agree, should be able to change specs while in spawn or waiting to respawn. Otherwise the game becomes too much about counter comping.
Welcome our shortbow thieves overlords.. oh wait you were here before. It will be even more fun for those moments when you die and it takes you 40s to get back in the fight.
Let’s hope the change they mentioned making swiftness more easily obtainable across classes will actually be something – or all classes will play with 25% signet speed increase?

It was not fun to feel forced to swap in and out items at top level. That’s not skill, it’s just annoying to have to do and is a chore. Now it will force players to actually make a tradeoff with their build or weapon choice, which is good for developing more diverse team comps.
what about “learn to play”?
what about “theorycraft more and test more before starting a tourney”?
how can it be making the game more simple? forcing people to use their brain is so difficult?

All good eles use staff at the start to provide aoe swiftness to the team, I guess you can’ t support your team anymore for the first minute unless you want to go staff though, oh wait you can still do it with the useless lightning hammer!
I don’t get the whining.
Everyone weapon swapped to get swiftness. This wasn’t skill or countering builds. It just became a mandatory (boring) thing to do.
Not being able to swap utility skills until end of match is huge though. I personally like the idea. Teams won’t know what to expect and I think it makes people commit to their build more. I get that it takes away some of the ability to adapt/counter, but if the other team can’t do that either then doesn’t that in essence balance it back out?

Actually it is taking the thinking OUT of the game, I highly enjoy taking the right tools for the situation, why not lock runes, utilities, and trait selection when you load into the map too? Just make a build and be hard countered the whole game while being able to do nothing about it.

I disagree. It forces less thought, more fast clicking, because you can take EVERY tool into the game you need, rather than having to choose.
the day anet will lock utilities, traits, runes, will be the day balancing will start to be easier more satisfying for players.
and it will be the day real “pro” players will shine out of the mass, because they will win reguardless opponent build but it will be only a matter of counter-strategy.
gw2 is going in the right direction gw1 was.

Exactly, instead of having all your tools available to your class, you are now severely limited, creating less diversity, which is the opposite of what Arena net said they want.
thank kitten for this. – Although i do think they should be interchangable in spawn.

This was supposed to go out with the Wintersday patch, but part of it went out a little early when the patch was delayed.
It is intended that you can’t swap to new weapons, skills and traits during tournament matches.
Good news, now I don’t have to do that annoying speed buff with staff every start of a tourney match I’m happy with that

To me, it will create more build diversity, because now you have to decide if you really want that swiftness buff, or more damage, which means you will be running a more specific build for your team. If you’re the bunker guardian, you might have to give up the staff that gets you back to point quicker… if you’re a warrior, you can’t roll burst and then swap to a defensive set to help hold a point. Roles will be more defined, and players will have to learn to play within the confines of those roles and overall, you will see more builds develop and become viable.
On the negative side I do agree at higher level it will make it harder to counter some comps, but they will have to deal with the same issue as you. A good team can still overcome those differences, but the individual player will struggle to significantly more to do it on their own.

The weapon swapping is not the biggest deal since I don’ t need to switch weapons after the first 10 seconds anyway, but changing utilities and traits was the only thing that was giving me drive to try new things. I guess I will learn to get used to it after a while, but this is really the only change that has annoyed me this much.

The diversity is there, it’s just that it means that you have to actually think about what you want to bring to the team, which in turn shows skill. Also do you think that the bunker or glass cannon meta as it is at the moment more diverse? I don’t think so if anything this should make people actually think about there build before entering a match.
I for one am please to see this change and it is good to see anet take a set in the right direction. Little by little we may actually see a well rounded game.
