No rating loss if a teammate leaves the game
It’s not a question of if Anet will punish leavers, it’s when.
This would be nice until people exploited it.
“Oh, this team is a premade and will beat us” one person leaves
“okay, safe!”

Is that such a bad thing? People hate getting matched up against premades when they’re solo-queuing as well.
By implementing this change, I think a lot more people will be willing to solo queue which in turn will make it less likely that you get matched up against premades or have a leaver on your team.
Would the winning teams rating then not go up? Either way, much to easy to abuse.

Not a good idea. As soon as you are losing, just get someone to leave and it’s effectively a null game.
The person leaving however should get a rating panelty and a decent time lockout.
The idea is not bad, but i think, to be fair, then the opposite team with 5 players should not get the win too, so the ratings of both teams stays equal. But playing a tPvP match knowing it is for nothing will make it boring and frustrating for the both teams then as we know these situations with 4vs5 are very common.
Better idea will be to immediatly find a replacement for the missing player or to kick both teams out of a starting match, so they can make a new roster.

leave = loss as it should be. It balances out over time anyway. Sure its frustrating but the alternative really isn’t that much better.
Better would be to handle it pre-match as much as possible. If not every player confirms to enter the match, then cancel the match. Do not display enemy teams in tab menu or otherwise in tournament until all players accept to prevent teams from diving based on teamcomp or who they are matched against.

What if you transferred the rating loss of the other four team members all to the player that left? If 2 or more players leave, the total amount would be divided between them. This penalty could be avoided by rejoining the match before it ends, so people don’t get screwed over for random disconnects. Additionally, matches would count as a loss for leavers unless they rejoin, rather than just disappearing from their record. Between the transferred rating drop and the loss counted toward your record, leaving a game without rejoining would be a fantastic way to destroy your ranking. Meanwhile, the people who stuck it out are protected from the rating loss.
The only way I could really see to get around this would be if you had a separate account with copies of your PvP characters on it. You could use it as a “dummy” to absorb rating loss for your team…but this doesn’t seem like it would be a common situation, since you can’t advance your main account if you’re always playing on the dummy. Your average solo queue player isn’t going to buy into that, and in the case of premades, you’d have to get someone to volunteer to be left behind in the ratings, while the other members get the glory.

That’s why I said that the mechanic only kicks in if someone leaves BEFORE the match has started. It was even written in caps. If someone leaves mid-match, your team will still get hit with the penalty.
Even if Anet adds in a punishment for leavers (and I agree that they should), it still would not directly help those who stay in the game. Those players who stay in the game still have to play out the 4v5 and likely take a loss through no fault of their own.
Of course, punishing leavers would disincentivize people from leaving, but the fact remains that some people would still leave out of necessity, spite, or frustration regardless of the punishment. You’d still be screwed in that situation, unless this suggestion (or something like it) was implemented.
Ultimately, I think this suggestion would work best if it was implemented in addition to a punishment system for leavers. That would ameliorate the problem of people leaving if they notice they’re up against a premade. I don’t think many solo-queuers would be willing to leave and take a loss for the sole purpose of protecting their teammates from taking a loss. But some people might leave simply because they’re frustrated or they think their team sucks. My suggestion would protect the remaining team members from getting completely screwed over.
