Just trying to throw some ideas around for the betterment of the game:

Seeing that it is quite an insurmountable obstacle to overcome the game’s technical difficulty of rendering characters in time… has anyone considered the viability of a mechanical fix for sPvP?

That is, delaying the first possible attack of a stealthed character by the amount of time commensurate with the average time of fully rendering that character? Similar to the concept of the spy backstabbing in Team Fortress 2.

Given that it comes with inherent practical problems, furthering that idea is – inherit attacking from stealth abilities to the first attack from stealth.
Thoughts?

The only problem I see from a programming standpoint is that I don’t think any move recognizes it’s input as from a stealthed state or otherwise. That said, the delay would still not minimize the complaints about Thief burst IMO, because it even with a delay, it would still “come out of nowhere”.

But I see what you mean.. maybe seeing that blip of visible smoke behind you first right before the stab would give you that extra nano-second to react, but truthfully, the people doing most of the complaining are running glass specs that die almost instantly anyway.

Not sure how much of the problem was addressed with the last PvP patch; I guess my gripe with it is the foe being able to restealth before it has even unstealthed and escapes, rendering the 3 seconds of the revealed effect nearly futile. Could have at least stunned/immobilized it. Those cheeky kittens!

Am I able to at least select it when it’s still rendering?

Do you mean delaying the next attack after the attack that breaks stealth? It wouldn’t make much difference before since attacks don’t break stealth until they have actually landed.

I would not want it same way as tf spy… and btw it could 1 hit from behind with knife, thats why it was like that.

Yeah, just spam Tab, I do that all the time. If you get him selected, I’m fairly sure you’ll see his red circle and the red arrow above his head, even though his model is invisible.

I think the greatest culling issue’s come from various stealth mechanics being used in sequence.

I know there is a so called “debuff” as to when you can enter stealth again, but it’s very possible to eneter it again before the you render making you gain “permastealth”.

just now me as a bunker warrior fought a thief for minutes on end while maybe seeing him 2 or 3 times when i got lucky with my aoe’s.
