Nov 15 Patch Mesmer
Mesmer damage is fine, compared to what other classes can output.
But yes, mesmers might deserve some patching. Especially to give them a harder or more reliable shutdown, and encourage more tactical play in 3v3+ situations, like we had back in the old days (i.e. GW1), where a mesmer could actually drastically shape a battle on the meta level, and in that way fulfill a unique role. Rather than being the cheap 3rd class copy of some other class. E.g. defining oneself over maximum burst damage. Savvy?
And in this regard – imho – it’s totally fine that a skill like Null Field is strong. Or that illusion focused play actually leads to a player loosing track of the real mesmer.
I think the image spam needs to be toned down a little, but for the most part mesmers are not that op, maybe a bit easier, but over time I dont think it would make too much of a difference.
The portal thing is an odd one. Half of me knows its VERY powerful, but the other half knows its only powerful in certain situations. PVP is conquest based, so a portal is going to be VERY handy, but if you removed it thats a defining trait of the mesmer, as well as the image spam :P
Things just need some fine tuning, or maybe my class engie doesnt have such a hard time with them like other profs do, I dont know.
I don’t mind image spam. That is their primary way of surviving, by being deceptive. Just shatter dmg needs to be taken down a bit and portal made less useful so other (good) skills are taken more often and so it does not define meta tpvp.
Whenever i use illu zerk on my mes i get jealous and wish my blunderbuss was similar in effectiveness.

mesmer bullett points have nothint to do with how much attention was paid to them.
My group has been working on a version of our application night and day for the past 6 weeks and we have come up with 2 bullett points for patch notes. but I can assuse you we spent a ton of time on it, now as to its actual effect? time shal tell when the latest build goes live. working at a software company is the same as working at a software company….
Did a bit of pvp this morning. The smallest number of mesmers I saw on enemy teams was five, ranging up to seven at times. The class is already a hardcore fotm.

However tempting it is to use that as a base of argument, don’t. Yesterday there was a match with 6 thieves on an opposing team (8vs8 full teams). I could have taken a screen and posted another thread on how fotm and op (or whatever) thief is. I took 10min break and started on another server. On the first match there was not a single thief in a 16 player match.
The only way to reliable determine how much some class is played is to give statistics from a reasonable time period drawn straight from the game data.
Personally I’ve never seen that many mesmers (5+) on either side. But yes, mesmer is probably more popular than many other classes both in tPvP and sPvP.

Mesmer are the most overpowered class in the game and are really ruining the fun. With my mesmer I can crit squishies while downed for 6k, how kittening broken is that? Mind Wrack can go up to 8k and this all while having three stunbreaker, a stealth, 1200 range teleport, very high ranged damage and group quickness.
But yea, people are crying about thieves..
Just go something like this (I didn’t really care what to skill, I just wnated to play a broken shatter-mesmer). Start with greatsword → Phantasm → spam other skills → switch to sword/pistol → spam phantasm → check that you have 3 illusions out → press 2, wait, press 2 again, press 3 → use mind wrack → target dead. Also don’t forget to use moa for free win in 1v1, but I would only use it against enemies you know are strong.
I had no clue what i’m doing but I still won all 1v1.

So you won some 1v1’s in 8v8 against other clueless players, and that’s proof positive that mes is OP? Wow. How many tourney wins on your fotm gs/sword/pistol build? Zero I bet. Protip: gs is garbage, for garbage players.
Mes is fine. Other classes need a buff. I play mes because I was sick of bunkering with my champion genius engie, and wanted to do rdps. I’d be perfectly happy still playing engie if there was a viable dps spec, but there isn’t for the tpvp meta (other classes have the same issue, pigeon-holed into a single role because any other spec sucks).
And that’s the gag with this game: the meta is what screws everyone into playing 1 or 2 specs for every class, and those 1 or 2 specs perform differently in 8v8 and 5v5. Regardless, it comes down to the same cookie-cutter builds and group comps for either. I can’t pubstomp 8v8 on my bunker engie, but bunkers get complained about anyway, meanwhile 8v8 doesn’t matter yet some scrub thinks that because a class is effective in nub-dominated zerg pvp it should be nerfed. Anet should’ve just had everyone play ranger, and there would be no complaints.
The problem is this game’s depth. The meta is burst vs bunker only, there’s no subtlety or creativity if you want to be effective. Only the skill floor seems to separate choices in classes, thief/war for ez mode 3 button pubstomp, or do the same thing with my staff/scepter/pistol mes with a few more button pushes. Or go bunker for tpvp, which I haven’t bothered for weeks to even find a group, done with “pvp tank” playstyle.
Anet should’ve given every class a viable bunker or burst build if they were going to stick with conquest map-only pvp, but each class only got one or the other. I predict this upcoming patch will give bandaid nerfs to gaurd/thief/mes, and pretty much leave everything else the way it is. Ah well, Planetside 2 releases soon. Sorry this turned into a rant about pvp meta, but GW2 is just another mmo that had great potential in pvp but got ownd by typical corporatist bullkitten.

Every class does have viable bunker build. Just that ele’s and guardians are stupidly OP for the role. Nerf the two and others can bunker it good then.
