OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO PVP MATCHMAKING (SOLVED)
People came back because the league is about to start?
When league is about to start, you will face better players/true pvp players.
The pro league attracts more better players back to the game. I haven’t played for a few weeks, and I know several LX3+ players who didn’t play during the off season at all.
Since unranked is based on MMR, with the lack of pro players, your MMR might have been raised too high. The MMR decay also makes it worse. In the end, you ended up getting matched against a lot of good players outside of your range.
Anyway, it’s just unranked, so play a few games until your MMR is stable again.

Thanks for your answers guys! specially sunshine, i’ll take ur advice and see if it start normalizing!
Do you feel like you are matched against better players or your team is underperforming ?
I’ve been losing 90% of my solo ques by very large margins, in contrast to past week when i was wining 50-60% …
What changed?
I guess you’re worse?
I’ve come back today after not playing for a while myself and noticed it too. I thought unranked was way too easy after ranked league stopped, and I wanted more of a challenge. But now i’m finding matches totally imbalanced and hard to win anything.
I wouldn’t say the "better’ players game back. Most likely all the people team stacking and sync dropping have come back.
In one game i lost almost 500-0 two guys on my team were letting the other team kill our lord. Literally chatting to them. when we were only 200 points in lol.
I mean lets face it if you are solo qeueing, and all the “better” players have come back, that should mean they should also be playing on your team alot as well. But I think they are just practicing to exploit those pip matches like they did last season.
All the alt accounts, team stackers who don’t like a challenge, and sync droppers are all back most likely lol.
Shouldnt matter if better players have come back.
They should be in his team as well.
Unranked mmr system is just really bad and can cause silly stuff like huge win ratios and huge loss ration due to people from all mmr ranges being thrown together in matches.
After playing for a few hours it came back to normal,
probably the MMR was not stable after a patch or something.
Now it seems normal, I’m winning half or most matches as solo ques.
Matchmaking seems to be working fine now

Sounds like a development of the “bads”
Did a lot of PvPers stop playing because the season ended? I’m not so sure I’m buying that. People who PvP a lot are going to… PvP a lot.
More likely, PvPers continued to PvP, PvE players stopped once the season ended, and this has nothing to do with the OP.
I did enjoy first season , but its done. I cant play unranked and have a nice time so Il just take a break and try some other things.
Unranked should get a different mmr system.
Just less wide gaps between the mmr of players in there
and it should be lot more pleasant.
Obviously if you are gonna throw people from all mmr ranges in the same match, it is gonna give issues.

Unranked has a different MMR rating. It’s the fact that people don’t play consistently in unranked that caused the problem.
- People try new builds.
- People don’t play for a long time and their MMR decay.
- People went AFK because skyham.
- People just do daily since losing has no effect.
Together, all of the above causes a more instable match making than Ranked. Glicko assumes that the player is consistent, and always try the best to win.
Closing down the MMR gap in Unranked only make the match making take longer, but it might not improved the match at all.

Yes, a lot of hardcore PvPers quit (temporarily) after the season, at least at Legendary+. Many people don’t like skyham and spirit. That causes a big difference in match making.
Let’s consider this example. We have 10 players with MMR 1500. Normally all of them get matched together. The matches are fun and fair. Then suddenly two good players come back. Their old rating was 2000, but since they didn’t play for a month, the rating decayed to 1500. Roughly 250 points difference in rating means 90%+ wining chance, so the 2 good players basically will win any 1v1, and may even win 1v2. Now since the 12 players have the same MMR, they will be matched together.
- if the 2 good players ended up on the same team with 8 of the original players, the match will be 500-0. The losing team will complain that they get the noobs who die instantly in the fight.
- if the 2 good players are splited on different team, then it’s a toss up on who can carry better.
- if the match only has 1 good player, it will result in a one sided match.
The only cure for this is to wait for people to play more matches and correct their MMR.
