Q:
Oct. 15 Patch
A:
I’m not expecting anything to change with the PvP scenario, I’m just looking forward to the bug fixes and QoL features.
It won’t change anything…drop your hopes they’re too high

Don’t get your hopes up too high, people will tell you it could change nothing even if it does.
In your opinion, will it change enough to make GW2 a serious PVP game again?
Will it be the answer to months of waiting? Finally heading in the right direction?
Or will it be another failure?
It’s going to be the LARGEST and most game changing pvp patch to date! I mean, it has to be. Look at how few pvp changes there has been, so they were obviously waiting to make a LARGE and IMPACTFUL pvp patch.

yeah they are working on this patch since august (2012)!! it is going to be the best patch EVER MADE!! pvp will reborn from his ashes

How do we know something is going change the future even though even we know nothing about THAT something?
Of course it’s not going to change anything. Every time there’s been a massive pvp saving patch, it’s ended up being entirely underwhelming, leaving everyone to wonder, how in the world did this take so long to do, and why is it so broken and buggy despite that?
If you are optimistic about anything anet does, you will be disappointed. Keep your expectations nonexistent, and at least when the “massive” patch that just has a few meaningless balance changes and a couple tool tip improvements comes out, it won’t be a surprise. And, if on the extremely off chance anet actually releases a patch on par with any other company in the industry, well, it’ll be like Christmas.

If you’re waiting for GW2 to become a completely different game with completely different mechanics, you’ll be disappointed. If you like GW2 combat at its core and want it to be a little more refined, then you’ll be moderately pleased.
If you hate everything Anet does on principle, you’ll hate it.
Who said it’s a massive PvP saving patch?
It’s just a balancing pass, people. If you hype it beyond what it’s supposed to be, of course it’s going to seem underwhelming.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye
I’m so excited for the new skill n’ trait descriptions! Yay.
A massive balance patch will change something. Thats for sure. But if the change will be good has to be found out.
I guess many people will return to look at it and leave as fast as they came if it has no good.

Exactly.

This question reminds me of the patch that was hyped to be “the” pvp patch that would change the game about 6 months ago.
If you don’t like the game now, I doubt this patch is going to change your view.
The “gamechanger” patch will be the one where actual new pvp content (ie new games modes) are released. That is unlikely to help the esports scene (so it won’t make it a “serious pvp game”, whatever that means), but it will definitely breathe life into spvp if it turns out to be any good. Until then its just incremental refinements of what we have now, which is good but probably not enough for you.

tbh, it EFFECTIVELY changed the game.
Necros, wars, S/D thieves, spirit rangers.
Aside S/D thieves and (MAYBE) wars the skill cap for these classes was ridicolously low, they had broken mechanics ( Inf strike, Healing signet, Condi bursts, AI) paired with other “softier” very strong mechanics ( condi spam, AoE spam, evade spam, CC spam), making them ridicolously broken and favoured in favor of high skill cap prfessions ( mesmer, ele, engi, burst thief).
It completely changed the way this game was played.
If they’re capable to do it again, hoping this time will be in the right direction, than: YES, 15 october patch will change the game.
How it is going to be, i don’t know.
I still don’t understand why they don’t use the recourse of player opinions. ( I know most player opinions are worthless) but the devs know , at least the amongst pvp players, which opinions are not worthless and worth checking.

I am pretty sure that was a more recent patch, not the one I am referring to. Certainly the change to ranger spirits and warriors came while I had quit the game and “the pvp patch” of yor came while I was still playing (well I am playing again now).

A quick balance pass is acceptable when patches comes once or twice a month. This patch took what, three and a half months? If they can’t make a massive patch in more than a quarter of a year, what exactly are they spending their time doing? What justifies them releasing smaller patches at a slower rate than every other MMO company out there?

Well im just curious to see which profession will be extremely op and the one that will be the free kill.
last balance patch made it even worse so i don’t have high hopes for it. according to the preview, then the balance will still suck.

One other thing, just changing class/build balance is not going to radically alter the game.
Balance changes just shift the balance around. Outside of a few extremely OP builds that have been toned down, I don’t see the balance now as having dramatically improved from day 1. It is just that different classes/builds have the ascendancy. That will be tweaked as a matter of course and different classes/builds will become OP.
Changes/fixes/improvements to things like skyhammer farming, leaderboard issues, pvp rewards, asura size, no spectator mode in tourney, new pvp game modes, aoe, overload of effects and the like are core issues; balance changes are just a given and not something to particularly fixate about, especially in this kind of game.
Patches always change the game!!! but it is usually for the worse…

I was just nitpicking.
I believe that only a massive overhaul to the reward system will change the way this game will be played ( competitively talking).
The point is that even with the massive reward overhaul this game needs, it still won’t be enough to cater to good players, since the most rewarding ones are still faceroll, with the only difference that now the best comp has removed the only good skill cap build ( engi) with another faceroll one ( war).
This will simply make good players leave, since any random scrub will be able to face on par a dedicated PvP player ( i don’t want to talk about MLG and Denial, otherwise i will simply go again into EU vs NA rubbishness, but we know what the best team comp is and WHY it is).
They need to happen both at the same time, balance and rewards. And 15 october will probably be the last chance of an already dying game.

And that’s exactly what I mean. People losing hope with every passing patch.
You guys can has your doom and gloom. I’m excited for the new builds I’ll get to create whilst also inadvertently predicting the meta.

Doom and gloom? You must be new here.
There will be QoL changes that are worth being excited for. The improvement to tab targetting alone will make me more effective against most pet builds. It’s annoying when a pet build pops out of nowhere and starts killing you while you are tab targetting through that mess until you find the player.

Pointy head syndrome. They know better. I know it sounds like I’m slagging these guys but the transparency (here is what we are thinking of doing soon)and give and take are awful (this is why we did such and such) so honestly what else can it be really? I’m not saying they don’t take any feedback but ive seen this kind of attitude before back in the olden days of MMORPGs from people like EQ’s Brad McQuaid. They are going to run this game 100% as they see fit and you are going to like it or not.

Basing on what they said..
NO
NO
NO
Fore sure
Elementalist are still going to suck after that patch, so it really doesn’t matter.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
