You wonder why the pvp community is dwindling ANET….

Having a month of unranked, which has no mmr system what so ever is killing your game.

The fact that the seasons were not even competitive either is another issue all together. But having blow outs every game, and being paired with pve people doing dailies in unranked is a shoddy way of making a customer get his pvp fix.

It makes me not want to log on anymore or even enjoy this game.

Wvw is my only fun now because of my servers amazing community, but pvp wise, you have no idea how to manage a pvp system/game.

How hard is it to just keep SOLO QUEUE LEADERBOARD going along with a proper solo mmr system for me to enjoy this game.

People would stream more, care more because you can see your rank and w/l on a website, and it would create a small, but big enough ‘carrot on a stick’ philosophy.

Don’t you get it? People don’t get on with their lives for a month, then log back on because OMG Season 3 HYPEEEE.

Hence why each season that goes by has less and less interest. For an MMO to be successful you need 2 things. A community and a passion to want to spend your own precious spare time in life to log on and play THIS specific game over all other games/things to do.

People may or may not agree with me but it’s sad to see.

I’m still debating if I want to come back to pvp when the season starts. I was really discouraged by season 2. I want to like it, but at the same time if we get Alpine boardlands back, and the changes to HoT pve maps I may just remain a pve hero and start up wvw again.

I won’t leave the game, because there is a lot I want to do, but that doesn’t mean I won’t abandon a game mode. I abandoned WvW for pvp and that almost 2 years ago.

This, god it seems that some people forget this is an actual mmorpg and not some kind of PvP only game. And it’s funny cause in fact the majority of the player population, at any time, is not playing PvP.

I play about one sPvP game a day atm, and even though I’m on a six game winning streak and honestly having good, close matches with skilled opponents (for the most part), I just don’t feel compelled to play more than one game a day. Unranked has no goals that I can strive for, and once I feel I know the spec I’m going to play decently enough, there’s no reason for me to keep playing over doing other content (that I also typically don’t enjoy, but whatever.)

Even if only 5% play pvp, its Anet who are pushing this ‘esports’ dream, but without a pvp population, it just doesnt happen. And for a whole month the population decreases, with the likely hood of even more people not coming back a month later.

This, is like me going to the Wvw forums and saying to the people who care about their BL .." Stop complaining how bad desert BL is, you have pvp and raids now so you cannot complain".

I’m not saying everyone will agree with me, but your argument on the assumption of ’ go do something else because pvp is so small in this game’ is silly.

DO you ever consider that ALOT of people who play gw2, ONLY do either pvp, pve, or wvw?

Bring back and revamp leaderboards.

Placings are determined by win rates of players who have over 100 games played.

Have columns that can be filtered and sorted that shows how many games said player played solo, duo, trio and so forth. Then we can see who is the best solo-player and who is the best pre-made.

Include a player profile so that upon clicking player name, we can see how many games they play on each class, and said win rates on each class.

Ideally we’d show MMR like every other competitive game on the planet, but since Anet seems allergic to that concept, we have to go with the next best thing. Win rates and number of games played.

Also, players who haven’t played for more than 1-2 weeks get removed from the leaderboard. Their first game back will reinstate them in their former position. That way we don’t get inactive players cluttering up the top 1000 or whatever number we used to have.

the real problem is its just not fun to keep grinding away, even if there’s leaderboard or whatever. its repetitive and boring. thats the real reason population falls off so bad. by having the seasons, we get to have a break, and on return it is moderately fun again.

in your, year long leaderboard or whatevs, people like me will still get bored, and then stop, but then i’m much less likely to come back because… well i’m way behind on the board why should i return at all?

i guess u will maybe be able to maintain your 100ish ‘hardcore players’ but you aren’t going to have the rest of us in the same # as the seasons

Yeh i get your point. But i think you misunderstand me.

Seasons are fine the way they are set up. They are the daddy of pvp.

What i’m saying is, why cant, like a couple of years ago, just keep a SEPARATE leaderboard going for solo queueing ranked. It used to happen.

It doesn’t have to have rewards or anything, so you feel like you, personally have to grind it. It’s for people like me, who really only play this game for the amazing pvp mechanics, to at least have some competitive play during the off-season.
It wouldn’t change anything to do with seasons, just simply keep the competitive, pure pvp, community alive for a month because, you may find this hard to believe’ but some people do care about wins/losses, and personal rankings.

Yeh it’s totally garbage. Every other mmo/pvp game has an online and/or in game ladder system where the community can see their mmrs/ win +loss and rank in comparison to others. They FINALLY release leagues, and what do we get?….

A half kitten d job of a leaderboard. where you can only se top 10, who is top of legendary or who is above or below your team.

I know Programmers who would and can create a 10x better, more informative board system than what they implemented.

What irks me the most is that ArenaNet is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the Pro League, which supposedly is a marketing approach in itself to bring in more people into PvP, yet not lifting a finger to make PvP better and not stale, aside from the recent map changes which has been overdue for years.

Yup. Judging by other posts on this forum, i’m not the only one who is fed up of 1 month of stale pvp with no ‘competitive’ mmr system, pvers doing dailies, 4x thief on 1 team, and afkers.

ANET, is it really that hard to just keep ranked going but only solo play affects an external leaderboard?

It doesn’t affect league seasons, it doesn’t affect guild challenger, it doesn’t affect pip or back piece progression.

It is simply there for people who want to have fun( and my fun i mean competitive matches).

Wouldnt you want to try everything in your power to KEEP the player base you build up over the seasons, playing your game!?

I think a solo que leader board with pride over prize is a great idea.

-no one feels forced to pvp daily if they don’t want to.
-You’ll lure competitive people, I know I would join in on it.
-You’ll be paired with afk/quiters/people trying builds but as your MMR develops you’ll get filtered with competitive people.

Playing unranked is no fun because of match quality which is just poor compared to ranked. There is no PvP specific balancing which I think is a problem. Matchmaking has issues that it does not really resolve like switching classes at any time or mixing team and solo players. As for esports the game lacks key features such as replay functionality or a fun to watch mode (to attract more players). I don’t think Pro League is a problem as it is part of marketing. But not spending enough resources for better balancing, new PvP maps or improving the core game (build templates, replays, statistics, leaderboard) is.

ye it is indeed boring af. I just refuse to play with 30k ap-norn-guardian-roleplayers who backpaddel to death on skyhammer and who just want to do their pve dailies

i see your pt now. yeah i suppose it running separate from the seasons stuff would be fine, altho i still contend most people will get bored and it’ll flatten out to where u play the same small group of people over n over.

best thing to do to make pvp pop grow is to focus on the fun 1st. once anet puts fun in front of everything else, then people will return (because pvp should be fun to do) then they can worry about all the other jazz they seem to focus on

One month without ranked – which is really just a grind disguised as a rank system – isn’t killing PvP.

What’s killing PvP is awful balance and ridiculous power creep.

This is the 4th post i see about that.

IMO OP is completly right and most pvpers think the same way (check out zoose post).

Enough has been said…let’s just put it that way: Without competitiveness there is no pvp therefore Anet is shutting pvp down for one month every 2 month…

Could you imagine pve or wvw shutdown that regularly? Could you imagine pve or wvw being shut down at all?The answer is no.

Now that all this has been said the only thing to do is wait and see the outcome:

1. Either Anet doesn’t change anything about the system: Then we can for sure say that Anet for (1) doesn’t care about pvp and for (2) doesn’t take into consideration the complaints made between both S1-S2 and S2-S3 (basically doesn’t listen to the players).

2. Or, Anet gives pvpers something to go on between each season and then we can say that Anet actually cares about pvp but more importantly LISTENS to the player.

In either case, these posts are beneficial.

Nevermind the fact you can only see like top 3 and maybe the 5 players around you. Can’t even browse it either.

I assumed they removed the leaderboards so people couldn’t see how high their % was so they could tank it on purpose like many were doing in S1 because MM turned against you otherwise.

When is Season 3 Starting anyways? I’ve never seen a date posted anywhere?
