Official evidence for nerfing rangers
Do people here also agree with buffing the other pets?
I’m all for nerfing both Bristleback and Smokescale, but people need to pay attention to pet when fighting rangers.
i already considered pets that did 2-5k dmg on their “burst” abilities , knockdowns other cc’s with animations as pretty good pets.
but now we have pets who do 7-10k+ dmg every 10-15seconds, unblockable knocks, evades, permanent quickness, permanent 25 might. All this with druid having incredible control, best self sustain and decent damage for a “support”.
#prayforbristlebackandrevenantpetnerf.
This guy is a sapphier or ruby dude who knows nothing about how the real world goes lol..
So 2.5 seconds quickness every 16 seconds, an elite that requires Bristleback f2 on a 48 cd that gives you some might for 15 secs, providing all attacks lands = perma quickness and perma 25 mights lol…
Best sustain lol.. (Mesmer, Tempest, Revenant outsustain Druid with superior mechanic such as evade, infinite stability, )
Your so-called best sustain got ripped through by Revenant in 2 seconds. (Banish Enchantment spam 18 stacks confusion + 6 cover condition in 2 seconds), which in a +1 situation you could die instantly if the opponent has half a brain.
All Druid’s cleanse has a delay of 2~2.5 seconds (Glyphs, seed of life).Druid’s “only” stun-break has a cd of 20, meaning if you got dragged into cc chain, most of the time you’re dead in a team fight. (While Revenant has stun-break with no cd, Mesmer has lots of teleport, invulnerable and evade)
Sometimes Druid’s stunbreak is counter-productive against Revenant because it’d trigger another CC from their trait that leads to another 3 secs taunt, which by then you’re usually dead.Learn the real world, start doing some real fight, and you’d see that Druid is one of the most balanced class currently in the current Meta. (No cheese mechanic, no 40 secs protection, no infinite cleanse, no infinite stability, no infinite stun-break, no evade evade evade block block block for the whole matches, moderate damage, vulnerable in outnumber fight, vulnerable to cc and so on)
i guess this applies for sapphire / ruby level druids only?
Only a sapphire / ruby dude would cry Druid OP because not many people even play that in legendary. (Because those pros all know Druid is not really strong at all, and cant fight outnumber fight and carry the team like Rev and Chrono do)
If you really fight some legendary division level fight, you’d know how vulnerable druid is in a team fight, and every decent Revenants know that, and would target you in the team fight and quickly kill you.50% play Revenant and 30% play Chorno in legend division.
I suck at this game. Have not played for 6 months until a week ago and hardly played for the 6-12 months before that too. So I am terrible.
And I played some legend games because I queued with a legend and honestly….lol at calling legend anything other than a grind. My experience was legend was full of pretty poor players. Almost as bad as me, and I have no idea about playing this game partly because of outside time commitments and partly because of all the research I put into the game for the good of the community.

Try to play more and you’d find some God tier players.
The skill level difference within legend is very big, and some people are just trying classes they never played after they hit legend. (Which the result would obviously be poor)
However, since legend division is “extremely hard to climb” (Diamond doesn’t even come close), a x2 and upward legend means you have to always out-perform others to reach it.
There’s only 50-ish people in the entire game that hit x3 legend.
There’re only 4 people in the world that hit x7
Btw, Henry, you have not played for 6 months and admit you yourself are bad, yet you cry that other class OP despite knowing you yourself is bad?

I do realize many people stuck in mere Ruby yet they always talk the loudest and always believe they’re good despite they’re still stuck in Ruby. (I pass through Ruby in 2 days while duo/ trio because it’s such a joke tier)
I made some really good/ skillful pvp friends when I hit Ruby because we perform well together, so they notice me and we then occasionally do matches together duo or trio (still I play 60% solo que though), making advancing much more achievable.
One more thing, try climbing Legend onward and see if it’s as easy as you think.
Even 4~5 man premade often don’t help that much at all. (I ended up doing Duo most of the time) In fact, most of the 4~5man premades are terrible in legend, much worse than solo/duo opponents I faced before.

30% damage decrease to all ranger pets would be acceptable? Where are you numbers coming from?
This isn’t “research”, where is any proof of these insane statistics that you " calculated". Anybody can go on a forum and talk about how they calcd all these numbers and did research.
I feel everyone wants the person nerfed because for once they can’t just be ignored like it has been like for years. For once you guys have to think and actually deal with a pet that makes a difference.
Then some streamer rages over pet dps and everyone jumps on the bandwagon because hey he’s a streamer he must be good right? Not really, if he can’t kill a druid in spvp because of the pet then sorry he’s terrible at this game.

I dont have to be good to know how stupid and OP something is. Especially when it is backed up by research. Its not rocket science. I dont even know any of the skills or traits for any of the classes besides necro. And I dont care what they are. But I know pets hitting me for 5k a time isn’t good for the game.
I highly doubt a division which is just a grind matters much. That ended once they got rid of proper solo queue and mmr leaderboards in general.
Besides, the best players I have ever seen in this game are WvW players who rarely set foot in “stand on a point” pvp.

Rangers are not even close to the biggest problem if they are a problem at all, i find the Ranger hate kinda laughable really in the current meta

“or Duo que”.
You do realize Duo que is currently the most efficient way to climb up legend atm because it ensures quality?
I tried 4 man and it actually win less.
Still, I did mention many people start playing classes they never play once they hit legend.
I even heard some people pay their friends money to ask them to play for them to hit legend. (Met a guy who farmed pvp for their friend because it’s easy for him, and he knows going through ruby is extremely easy while trio)
Those outliers should not be included into the account of skill-level.
And it still does not change the fact that Ruby is a joke tier that’s easily passable if you are duo/ trio queing, while in legend division trio/ 4-man can still barely secure victory.
I don’t see anybody saying that rangers/druids are OP, they aren’t, … what the thread is about is 2 specific pets that needs to be standardized to the rest of them

So they aren’t OP even with your so-called “op pets”, so once you make those pets useless, wouldn’t it make Druid useless too?
It’s like nerfing Shroud on Necro, nerfing shatter, nerfing overload, you’re destroying a class mechanic when you try to destroy pets.
Beside, both pets got nerfed multiple times already since BWE3.
Smoke Assualt damage cut by 70% already.
Bristleback HP cut in half, that any aoe spam can easily kill it while killing you.

1. You are calling other pets useless (class design problem)
2. Never said OP, just called for standarization, either boosting other pets, or nerfing the outliners.
3. If nerfing 2 new pets destroys pets alltogether, then they were destroyed already before them
4. If 2 pets define the whole class, the already anounced buffs the class were useless, while all they had to do was to boost this mentioned 2 pets, right?
Ranger best class ever confirmed by Henry once again.
You just can’t argue non-bias, high researched, factual evidence on this guys end. I mean, he must have talked to at least 20 pve players this time around. Maybe even reached sapphire!
Golly Gee Wilikers, if only we had Henry’s substantial statistical knowledge in every corner of these forums!
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2

Think about it, there’re around 80% of other pets that are never used even before HoT because they’re useless. making dogs/wolf/ birds the outlier here.
How come no-one call out to standardize the other pets so they become equally useful/useless? How come Anet doesn’t do anything about it still?
How come Anet doesn’t fix the on f2 trigger taunt/ weakness/ blind on all the HoT pets, which has been bugged and doesn’t work for 4 months since BWE3?
To me, this is a double standard, with the indecent intention of destroying ranger yet again by calling out nerf for pets.
Henry, thank you for this groundbreaking research. I understand the painstaking effort that you must have undertaken to collect the data and calculate just how much of a negative impact that Ranger/Druid pets have upon underpowered PvP players.
ANet, I hope you’re following this topic. Science (courtesy of our man Henry) has now proven the extent of the damage that Ranger/Druid pets are doing to this game.
Do people here also agree with buffing the other pets?
I’m all for nerfing both Bristleback and Smokescale, but people need to pay attention to pet when fighting rangers.
This… its part of the class mechanic, you cannot trivialize it. As others have said unless you trivialize shroud, shatter, virtually every unique aspect to all classes.
Personally i feel that the rangger itself should do more damage, and the pets should provide supplementary effects like their unique F2 skills and other attack specific things like knockdowns and such but leave the damage to the player.
I wonder how many would be happy with a large general buff to the Ranger itself and taking damage off the pets and leaving their other abilities intact?
Bottom line you cant nerf pets without nerfing the class and its already basically worthless outside a bunker madness spec
i already considered pets that did 2-5k dmg on their “burst” abilities , knockdowns other cc’s with animations as pretty good pets.
but now we have pets who do 7-10k+ dmg every 10-15seconds, unblockable knocks, evades, permanent quickness, permanent 25 might. All this with druid having incredible control, best self sustain and decent damage for a “support”.

You do realize, that your divion says nothing about your skill level?
(I ended up doing Duo most of the time) In fact, most of the 4~5man premades are terrible in legend, much worse than solo/duo opponents I faced before.99% solo or duoq. I stand by my point.
Divisons arent connected to MMR. I see the worst players in the game in legendary.
did u guys ever tough that ladder rank, etc, isnt nothing more than a farmable title as any other title game has, to maintain players in game?

Did you ever thought people who can’t even get this farmable title has no right to judge balance since they barely play the game to begin with?
Their point of view and credibility worth even less than people who go all the way out to participate this season.
There is no opinion to be had. Your math looks solid Henry. Thank you for opening my eyes on the matter.

I actually can, im just not wasting my time to much on gw2 pvp, it is not what i am looking for pvp perpective/experience at the momment, nor i do farm titles being whatever game mode is. Reason my poi stands, it could be a thing and really cool at being epsorts, but spvp have a few issues (i call them issues) that i dont like, the way Anet manages classes on pvp side, it is what makes the game look a bit of a grind title for me, as i agree all classes should be part of meta, not a rotation system of boost now X and make Y class weaker, if they shorten the gap between meta and non meta builds game would be more pleasent in player skill than the players that plays better the gimmick(because they dont have much to choose from).
side note:
And it was just a question, im still hopping Anet adds something more like we had the 8man gvg, nothing more.
(edit: when im refering to ladder is supose to be the Division system, as it feel the same as a /rank title path just with another name and no emote).

Hi Henry,
Firstly, thanks for taking time out look into this. Whilst this has been a hotly debated topic in the past, it’s good to finally see some conclusive evidence on the matter.
I ran these figures again through my contacts in China and found much the same numerically. A nerf would seem like a legitimate response, if only to ease the concerns of ncsoft shareholders (who we believe regularly check this site).
Hope you also enjoyed your weekend, and we wish you the best of luck in your 2016 esports campaign.

Thanks Mr Phaeton. Good to see you in and around GW2 again my friend. Hope all is well with you.
On topic: My assistant told me that there was some other evidence floating around with your contacts in China. I was quickly briefed on the findings of this other group of researchers this morning by my head of global relations. Seems like both groups independently came to the same conclusions which adds further evidence to the necessity to nerf rangers pets.
The numbers might change with the upcoming balance patch, but I think within a few weeks my team will have some pretty detailed findings once again.
Keep up the good work. Have a good week, and give my best to your contacts in China.
Thanks,
Henry
