There are two things in the current sPvP system that baffle me:

The current autobalance system and the lack of a leave penalty.

Sure, I know many multiplayer/FPS games use systems similar to the current one, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good one.

Autobalance
They tried to fix it by stopping autobalancing at 80%/400 (I believe?) points. But still, I’ve gotten thrown into games where the other team has 380 points and my team has 70. What this does is cause people to, more often than not, lose their first game by default because people are leaving their losing games and new people get thrown into it. Even worse is if someone on the winning team gets balanced to the other side.

80% seems too high. Stop autobalancing/adding new players at a lower . Something like 60 (300 points) or even 50% (250). Come from behind victories can still happen, but don’t force newly joining players or players from the other team to take part. This problem is also largely effected and can be alleviated by addressing my next point:

Leave penalty
There’s no penalty for leaving a game. Something like a 10 minute waiting penalty before you can join another match. This also factors in to the autobalancing problem because if a leave penalty were to be implemented, there would be less instances of autobalancing and instead force players to stick it out to the end.

“But what if I have an emergency? I shouldn’t be penalized for having a legitimate reason to leave.” Common excuse, one that I’ve heard countless times especially when playing LoL. It’s an emergency, you can afford to take ONE penalty. And in the case of the a waiting penalty, you shouldn’t even be around for the penalty because you’re dealing with the emergency.

Overall, the current sPvP system enables rage quitters to bounce around between games and forces others into undesirable situations rather than giving them a fresh game.

Honestly, I’d rather have the autobalancing removed and a strict leave penalty put in place, making it similar to other MMOs. That way, teams aren’t fluctuating at all through the match. But I don’t think that extreme of a change is going to happen.

I agree with you on auto balance however I despise leave penalties. I could see it being viable for ranked/ tournament play but not for a casual player. I don’t get as much time to play as I want, all I need is some lockout forcing me to not PvP for 10 mins because I wanted to smoke a quick bowl between some PvP matches.

You can leave between matches, give like a 30 second grace period. Leaving in the middle of the match is what I’m really talking about

The state spvp is in, a leave penalty will make a lot of people just give up. There is just too much imbalance and it is just all too possible to join a game that is already clearly decided in favor of the opposing team, who is then just going to rack up kills while they have you 3 capped. When I join a game like that, I quit.
For tournament play, why not. Tournament play is more important for the people in it at the time, and considering there is also waiting involved, especially for paid, its extra awful if someone up and quits on them mid game.

I think quick join matches should allow quick leaving as well. Especially if they end up joining in a situation you described, where its 300-50 or during small games where it just ends up being 2v1
