Once again.. eles
@Jportel
No dude…confusion mesmers are not lame at all, I mean have you ever played one to start with?.
It’s hard to explain when you still claim that a cleric amulet ele can hit people for 6k fire grab, when me at 2004 power – 43-48% crit dmg and 22-44% crit chance(using valkyrie or berserker amulet) can deal that much damage on glass cannon exclusively while still having 12-13 stack of mights, while waiting for the screen shots of your amazing feat with the super cleric amulet ele.
In the meantime let me explain condition mesmer : he comes then, chaos field “trap” , 3 conditions applied, chaos armor- Iwarlock and ta-daaa..6k HP is gone..and you’re still dazed, then you try to do something abut ..“oh kitten got confusion on me” ..and BAM here goes more HP…then comes the fatality, Iwarlock strike again..BAM…and sayonara 13k HP ele.
And about bunker mesmer with portal, in Foefire Map, Mesmers can use portal from graveyard np..do we really play the same game, dude? And what about Spirit watch? blasted bunker mesmer travellling with kittening thief, all of sudded you get hit by a 6k backstab followed by a 4k HS ( reminder for everybody as demonstrated by @Archaon= thieves with no quickness deal no damage, indeed 6k backstab and 4k HS count as no damage)
Yeah @Jportel..I really hate to play against r50+ teams from top 150, I really hate to go against a kittening r59 Necro or super skilled BM ranger and his mighty cat dealing godly damage or Engineer throwing the impossible on that node or the freaking bunker guardian that doesn’t go down even with half team beating him up…or against thieves that deal “no damage” and warriors that are “trash” and suck in PvP
But pls..let’s continue with you guys hotjoin adventures against these cleric amulet eles dealing 6k dmg firegrab, 2x armor of earth and undodgeable 7k+ dmg lightning flash/churning earth combo…

Confusion in PVP is not a good combo… And You mentioned a confusion Mesmer that is not using a scepter? What game are you playing? I mean wow… And give me a specific bunker build that includes the use of portal?
Eles do have higher burst than other profesions if spected so (base damage on spells). Actually they can kill quicker than a backstab thief glass cannon.
Sorry but no.
A backstab thief can kill you in 1 hit.
Something an elementalist can never achieve. If you want people to take your arguments seriously you shouldnt post things that are obviously false to everyone who plays the game.
Absolutely not. For a backstab thief to kill you in his rotation you have to be full glass and he will have used up plenty of abilities (signets, venom) and hit you with MUG, Cloak and Dagger and Backstab. The base damage of backstab is not the most damaging hit in the game, but a combination of 5-7 buttons can kill a glass canon. What happens after that attack fails because the target hit his dodge or block key is hilarious.
Is this topic about mesmers or eles? I don’t know anymore because the 2 best Mesmers of the world are argueing about what confusion is doing.
I hope you can stop your little war and be adults again. Thanks
@Jportel
Yeah right….tPvP bunker mesmers using scepters on a node…where do I find you again on the leader board? Top 50 or Top 10?
I’m sure with your 400 victories in tPvP against high tier teams, you will have lot to teach us and how mesmer is played….-_- can’t wait to hear your expertise.
P.S my bad I believe mesmer in Foefire use another type of portal, surely it must be the one purchased on the gem store, the portal you normally use, won’t allow you to travel from graveyard to quarry or waterfall as you clearly explained Ty again for letting me know

At this point ..it doesn’t really matter, between cleric amulet eles hitting harder than a zerker ele with their 6k fire grab and 7k+ churning earth and confusion mesmers dealing no dmg ( like the 20k dmg from confusion when I open my death log..surely must be a graphic mistake) and mesmers with portal unable to cover reasonable distance ( surely those mesmers who teleport from the orb shrine to the crow shrine, in reality must be hiding behind the corner)…I believe the credibility of some posters has already been confirmed -_-….

I said CONFUSION mesmers that you griped about… And you said they don’t use scepter? That doesn’t sound like much of a confusion mesmer genius. Bunker mesmers by definition do not need to move therefore they have no need for portal…
What annoys me most about eles is they’re really not hard to play well. Just keep swapping attunements and spamming anything that’s off cooldown works just fine. Chances are people won’t kill you.
If you cannot defeat an ele that spams skills off cooldown, the problem is you.
I don’t recall ever saying that I couldn’t beat a bad ele.
But I think it’s silly that 80%+ of the effectiveness of a d/d ele can be achieved by spamming random attunements/abilities and RTLing to safety.
That top 20%… yeah. Now that’s where I’m likely to end up as a corpse.
People keep saying it’s hard to be a good ele. No it’s not. It’s hard to be an amazing ele, it’s still surprisingly easy to be a good/op ele.

Agree. The skill-gap for ele’s are much lower compared to other classes in its effectiveness.
I will have to admit that I’ve never seen any MMO leave the issues revolving around the Ele and Mesmer go on untouched for so long. Usually by now other MMO’s would have completely destroyed the class with insane nerfs in an attempt to rebuild them by unnerfing them little by little just to get balance back in the game. Instead they’ve taken the other approach where they nerf little by little and nothing changes forcing everyone and their mother to reroll into an Ele or Mesmer just to compete.
The problems with both classes seem obvious. Passive healing and heal abilities that aren’t even attached to the actual healing skill. Confusion being too powerful base let alone when stacked. Boons, holy [censored] [censored] boons!
I can’t imagine the Ele or Mesmer’s base damage being a legitimate issue as these classes to do real burst means they’ll be bursted down real quick. It’s the utility spells that are causing an issue and using a scalpel over the course of 6 months isn’t cutting it. Time to bust out the sledge hammer to these things and worry about buying super glue later.

nice suggestions mang, destroy the classes! how come no one thought of this? except mesmers are fine and the real grip with eles is not healing.
The amount of entertainment that I gain by visiting this forum..it’s unparalleled, between a laugh and and another, I can keep my sanity in check while writing this 10000 words report….what I can say..ty lol.

It’s pretty baffling.
I’m not even someone that plays spvp a ton, though I’m starting to play more lately.
Yet it seems I can’t make it through reading someone’s post without finding a glaring inaccuracy in what they comment on about a profession (ANY profession). Not things that are a matter of opinion either.

Wait… so you beat those 80% you consider just spamming and maybe some of the other 20% and since you can’t win against the rest the class is unbalanced? Have you thought maybe that you are not as good as you think?
Also I found thief and mesmer much easier and much more boring. Got tired after 3-4 hours t/sPvP.
I read through all the posts and still no counters to my arguments. All I see is people crying because they can’t adapt.
I have played many classes and to me the most OP build and class is a “balanced” Phantasm Mesmer, with retaliation and conditions and tons of healing. Due to the Illusions you get hit a lot more often from Retal than lets say a Guardian, and this build can do loads of damage via the Phantasms. You can also use rune of the Air for good measure as “poor man’s retaliation”.

Who hasn’t heard the “I have no problem dealing with this class, but bad players are successful with said class and it’s OP” excuse?
If you find 80% of an ele’s effectiveness to be spamming random attunements/RTLing away, you are in the same league as hotjoiner’s complaining about 22222 thieves.
Don’t get me wrong, playing an ele isn’t hard, I agree. But the same goes for every other class out there – with enough practice and dedication, it doesn’t take long to become competitive with any class. Folks, this is an MMO PvP where the current competitive game mode is conquest and the winning teams are ones that utilize team synergy, not individual skill. It’s just like DotA – individual skill means crap in a team-based game.
You are kidding yourself if you feel glory in “my profession takes more skill than yours, I am a better player than you.”
Edit: Ele’s bunker build is overly strong at the moment, but it is astonishing how many players don’t understand why it’s strong, and complain about aspects of an ele that aren’t the reason they are dominaing tPvP.

PPl crying because in TPVP, there is no option to adapt to an ele. You can’t play garbage like “phantasm with lots of retaliation and tons of healing”. Your team will laugh at you and prolly say you should go farm hotjoin again.
And please don’t judge on other ppl if you are not that good as you think you are…
Again I only see insults and no actual argument. Good job Mr Leaderboard. I bet you I can call the guildmate that made that build and you can have a fight. You won’t be able to win once…

As much as I like your sarcastic post, I have to say: This game is balanced around Teamfights and not around duels. So ye, I can come with my unkillable cantrip-ele and we will fight for 2 hours. But in a tournament your build won’t help the team.
Overall on a competitive level, the ele is just a bit too strong. And that’s the meaning of like 99% of the whole communitiy.

I think this is the issue.
Just FYI, this is my Ele build I play with regularly now and I have no issues, even killing bunker Eles – http://goo.gl/3fGeg . I swap Sigils from time to time and I am still trying to find a more interesting build than the bunker.

Well it’s still a team-based game, from pvp to wvsw and even pve…so it must be team-balanced…i know there is no holy trinity (Well at least there are no “healers” since we can still find dps and tanks aka bunkers everywhere) but you’re meant to play as a team, not as single…it’s 5vs5 not 1vs1 + 1vs1+ 1vs1 and so on…most of the times the key is to try to outnumber your enemy in every teamfight and ele is way over the top doing this cause he has insane mobility and any decent ele can keep up vs 2 for enough time to lead to numeric disadvantage somewhere else while still being able to disengage (Usual rtl for your life) and backup like no other if someone needs support…this is what is really op about eles imo… OR bunker OR able to disengage if things are getting bad and cross the whole map in less than 5 secs OR healing to full hp on demand. Chose one anet.
(edited by Archaon.6245)
The premise of the OP’s initial post vastly overstates the amount of eles in tpvp. I’ve yet to see any decent team run 3-5 eles. To be sure – I don’t play tpvp in the top top level, but I do watch the top PvPer’s streams, so I get to see their compositions and the compositions of their opponents. (And 99% of the people posting about eles being OP aren’t highly ranked, either).
Moreover, most of the top teams don’t even run the “OP Bunker Ele” 4 cantrip build. Vexeus for example runs valk/zerker. Phantaram runs valk/zerker w/ only 1 cantrip. They both disintigrate when ganked by 2+ decent players, or they flee the point and let the other team have it.
The eles that have insane survivability via 4 cantrips and clerics ammy do very low damage — certainly not enough to force any decent bunker off a point. Sure, they can RtL away from some classes if they’re about to die, but that still means they lose the point and failed as a bunker.
It is certainly true that RtL gives eles the ability to move around the battlefield quickly, thus letting them disengage from a fight to help out in another fight, but a ~1.3k distance dash on a 20-seconod cooldown makes a difference of only a few seconds compared to many other classes. Thief, ranger, and greatsword warrior (lol I know) can zip around the map when out of combat just as quickly, or faster depending on terrain. Even the slow-as-heck mesmer w/ staff can phase retreat + blink to cover a greater distance (albeit at a slightly higher cooldown).
