AV, AB, WSG.

Why is our ESPORT the equivalent to another MMOs daily grind?

Our Esport is another game’s hotjoin.

I quit this game months ago, but I really had high hopes for it. The only reason people even sort of play it (pve wise) is because there is simply nothing else better. Like Machiavelli said about power, in the end, it comes down to the “Winds of fortuna”

The winds of chance. You got lucky that this industry is in a rut right now, but you owe me my $60 back.

This may be deleted, but just thought I would put it out there.

Our “eSports” definitely feels fancy, since our “daily” is filled with 4v5 games and awful matchmaking. You can’t build eSports around something that doesn’t work.

This game is complete garb. It will never get better. It’s dead faster than it started. People were turning their back in beta. Why didn’t I listen to them. GG!

You can only ask for a refund within 6 months of purchase. Funny, how people that “believe” in them (“ANet”) are being punished for it by not getting their money back. I refunded my EU account not too long ago. @Fugazi – People never even bothered the beta cause it was garb.

That is not true. Lots of Gw1 players did the beta and knew instantly that this was going to be kitten since it took PvP out of it. This is not even PvP.

On release most players i knew enjoyed conquest, until they realized that the hotjoin/battleground gamemode is the same as the competitive gamemode, and then most quit.

I still regularly get messages from a few asking whether gw2 has got a 3v3 or 2v2 arena gamemode yet.

We’re burnt out from the years of farming WoW BG daily’s, and now any 5v5+ objective gamemodes in any mmo feels like the same old zergy grind (gw2 conquest plays just like AB scaled down etc).

+1 for dueling in the mists.

if you quit why are you still QQing here? People like you make me mad, if you have already quit why the hell are you still here?

It’s no like the game would change if you quit and stay at forums whining everyday, and I say this cuz I’ve seen you countless times saying this and that and this and that but you’re not playing the game at all lol.

Anet doesn’t owe you anything, you bought the game, you played the game and you quit.

This is why this game will never be great…..

If everone quit this game because of how terribly imbalanced PvP was… You would probably be playing with like 100 other people… in the universe. Probably only the people who play thieves mesmers and warriors. Most of whom would be the devs themselves XD

Then Anet will shut down servers and you wouldnt have a game.

I find myself at a critical point in this game as well. It’s pretty safe to say I have little to fear from leaving (or even getting banned). None of my friends play. They all own it. They all trash talk it. I’ve tried time and time again to get them interested. Hype up the game and give it support. But nothing gets fixed. So.. Just me. Just this guy.

Funny how I still see ads on GW2 around the net. Like… I always think.. “yeah probably most people who see the ad have it already and just don’t play it.” XD kinda sucks.

This is yet another incarnation of “I want it because I don’t have it”.

Arathi Basin (AB) in WoW is pretty much the same as conquest in GW2. The scaled down version, Battle of Gilneas is even closer.

Alterac Vally (AV) in WoW is hated by most competitive players and is usually just PvE. It has a lot of similarities with WvW, though you encounter players in WvW far more than in AV.

Warsong Gulch (WSG) in WoW is the quintessential capture the flag (CTF) map. A lot of people like CTF and clamor for it in MMORPGs, but it doesn’t make for healthy competitive play. CTF lends itself to balling up and using a single tanky yet mobile player as a flag carrier. CTF in GW2 would make warrior required. You can counter that by disabling abilities while carrying the flag, but players don’t like not playing their character (which is why vehicles, event weapons, and transformations are often frowned upon).

Other common PvP formats have similar issues, which is why ArenaNet decided on conquest. The GvG of GuildWars1 tends to ball up in one location, making it hard to notice individual action (this is a bit of a moot point given spell effect spam), but it also often leads to stale gameplay. Everyone is in the center and they move back and forth a bit. There’s little variation from game to game.

Martyr (one object in the map that is held by a player for points) has the same problems as CTF, but instead of balling up in two places (two flag carriers), it’s one spot.

If ANet did add these additional formats, then people would complain about them just as much as they complain about not having them.

gloom and doom crowd drowns in forum tears for wsg ctf mode, but when getting a chance to carry the orb turns out they hate the spirit map.

Rated battlegrounds are a lot worse and less popular overall than GW2s tpvp. A lot more zergy, less about communication, less small scale skirmishes, less rotations. And dont get me started about cheaters that get their titles despite reports.

They are typically only played to get higher caps. Blizzard try to forcefeed RBGs to the scene by giving them an absurdly high cap. So everyone had to do them to stay competetive.

And thats while im one of the most experienced RBG players in europe.

WoW balance was always an issue that contributed to the lukewarm reception of RBGs, partly because they tried to balance too many skills and specs across too many formats (PvE dungeons, PvE raids, 2v2 team deathmatch, 3v3 team deathmatch, CTF, conquest), and also because they had to deal with gear scaling.

In order to balance an MMORPG, you usually have to do the following, most of which ANet has done:
- Use small-scale formats where one mistake or tiny delay won’t decide a match.
- Focus on one format to start, preferably where not all character skills can be easily quantified (map mobility, etc).
- Do not allow stats on gear to change over time.
- Don’t overreact to something becoming popular. Give the community time to find counters and see how bad it actually is and where the true problem lies.
- At the same time, don’t wait too long to react or under-react to a problem. Not doing enough is almost as bad as constant knee-jerk changes.
- Don’t let key roles for certain classes be too weak for too long. This is more for games with very rigid character specializations or roles.

You speak like you have worked on a balance team before, those points are futile.

So basically don’t overreact when blatantly powerful classes rule metas for months, and just accept there is no counter.

You keep telling yourself that.

Basically every drop of advice you just gave, ANET has done the complete opposite of. Either you know what your talking about, or our DEVS don’t.

All is vain~

Send a ticket too support, you’d have to give a reason to why you payed/played your account and why you think you deserve the refund. I refunded my side account even after 6 months (i didn’t play it that much), I assumed there was going to be an E-Sport (since they marketed as such) and bought a second copy of the game to practice on EU too. I got my refund and if you have a valid reason why you deserve one I’m sure your countries consumer laws give you the right for one too.

RBG’s are trash and nobody takes them seriously, even more reason why it makes no sense why Aanet went with a similar gamemode for competitive pvp.
