PLEASE do not add a solo queue
I think a player that for example has to work during night or have shifting working hours, has neraly no chance to get a team. Nevertheless he should be able to play in a fair match and has also a chance to proove his skill. Also players that prefer to play alone or haven’t that much time to play in a team shouldn’t be disadvantaged either. With no splitted Q, they don’t have any chance to proove their skill. Everytime they work their way up in the ladder, sooner or later they’ll face a premade.
In my eyes they should have a chance to play competitive in a certain degree without a team. How do you think about that?
Guild Wars 1 had Random Arenas, which was solo que, had Team Arenas, had GvG and had HA, also had Hero Battles later on.
All modes were lively enough, so you argument is invalid. GW2 can do that as well.

It should have done that at the start imo.
Yes Chesire, it definitely should, I agree.
Well there will be separated leader-boards also so don’t worry
Congratulations op, you’re the 1%
Good post. Splitting the community just lengthens queues. Matchmaking means you’re going to get matched against pugs or really bad teams 90% of the time when you’re pugging anyway. Baddies just need to blame something other than themselves when they lose, and matchmaking is the scapegoat of the day.
Besides, there’s a fix in place. Start a team.

Soloque is necesssary. You aren’t going to beat good teams with pugs. Good teams don’t have any fun rolling you just like no one likes losing 500-50.
If you are joining with less than a full team and winning, then you are either A) Beating solo quers Beating other undersized Pugs or C) Beating a team that is just bad to begin with. A good team doesn’t lose to a pug unless there is a wierd DC or something. Even at off-peak hours it is easy enough to fill up a team with pugs if you are willing to make the effort. This may be a mild inconvenience for you, but it certainly doesn’t break the game, and it is clearly better than leaving things as they are.
I used to play a lot of Super Monday Night Combat. This Moba game was a lot of fun… until they added solo queues. That didn’t sound like a bad idea at all, but in the end, nobody could play with their friends in small teams. The game would take ages to find a proper game, and most of the time my friends would get bored of waiting. In the end they left the game for good, and so did I shortly after.
Not saying this will happen to GW2 if they add solo queus, just saying it might not turn out the way Anet and the GW2 PvP community hope it will.
Can someone list for me the differences between “soloque” and 5v5 hotjoin?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
If you make a solo queue option, it will no longer be reasonable to join a tournament match with just 2 friends. You’ll have to find 5 people, and most of them will leave if you lose since solo queue is so much better.
no… you’ll only have to find 2 other people. remember, you have 3 already.

soloqueue would have an individual leaderboard, and players wouldnt be hoping in and out mid match. solqueue will be fun, hotjoin is a representation of evil.

1) Hot Join is gone.
2) Custom arenas can be made to function like what used to be Hotjoin, but these games are generally trash matches with people zerging to farm glory (sadly you even see this in the 5v5’s).
3) Solo Que is intended to be a rated match system where people are actually playing to win instead of playing to farm.
4) Playing “Hot Join” style custom arenas is signing up to farm and be farmed with people coming and going from the match at a moments notice.
5) Playing solo que is signing up to play on a static team with other randoms who will work with you strategically in order to win.
6) Custom arenas are filled with people trying to learn (usually unsuccessfully) to play the PvP maps and the environment aside from those people is dominated by “me first” mentality and people trying to score over 9000 kills in a match.
7) Solo Que tPvPers usually have at least a basic understanding of how Conquest works and what helps a team win. Even bad/misguided players are making an effort toward what they think will help win.
There are other differences, but if you can’t see the contrast considering just these factors, then I don’t know how to help.
Thank you for the list, Myrmidian. I can definitely understand the contrasts that you bring up, however…as much as I would like them to be real, I’m just not sure they would be.
Several of the “differences” rely on being teamed with (and against) competent players; this is a matchmaking issue, so assuming that matchmaking stays the same as it is now, we’d still get to enjoy the antics of those brave rank 1’s.
As far as people “coming and going,” this is a major issue in tournaments as well as hotjoin, sadly. Soloque wouldn’t be a direct fix for this.
There is one contrast you bring up that would make some difference, I believe:
3) Solo Que is intended to be a rated match system where people are actually playing to win instead of playing to farm.
Do we have any confirmation that soloque would be rated? I’ve seen posts that claim it would NOT be rated, so I’m not sure.

C’mon man. We don’t get any confirmations on stuff like this.
My opinion is that if they don’t initially make solo rated, then they will eventually. The larger market segment of casual PvP players will demand it, so making a soloque without it is bad business and just a poor implementation. shrugs
Solo queue : you get random classes with random builds and so random roles. End result, you get a team with little chance to have correct synergy.
5 man queue : you can get completely random classes too but it’s your fault, more often than not you’ll be playing with a correctly constructed team with assigned roles for all players.
Solo queue is statistically MUCH harder to win with than 5 man queues. Thus it needs a split somehow. This isn’t DotA 2 where you select your team compo once the match starts and you can no matter who you are matched with, get something that works.

Uh, of course you can choose your team comp after the match starts. Log out>character select>log in. The fact that you would post this says it all really. Blame matchmaking instead of figuring out how to win.
Why does making a solo queue mean there will no longer be a team/tournament queue? They are two different game modes, there is room for both.
The point of having solo queue, is so new players have a way to practice sPvP, with other random players. Once a player gets good, he/she can then join a guild and play team/tournament queues. When the guild becomes good, they can then start playing weekly/monthly tournaments.

There’s enough baby steps already. Take the next step. The attitude on display here makes me think that the only thing stopping most of you from forming a team is losing the ability to blame your random teammates for your losses.

This is highly unpractical and there’s no guarantee that players will have enough time nor the alts ready to organize a working team in the first place.
Uh, I used to do it all the time. It’s pretty easy to see if a team needs something to be viable and log it or ask someone to log it, and it’s extremely rare that you’re 2 classes short of filling all the necessary roles. Of course I’m forgetting, it’s the games fault when no one on your team is willing and able to log that class.
Plenty of people queue with friends in less then a group. Don’t tell me I can’t play that way if I want and that I should just randomly invite people to fill out a group. I’m not going to worry about this until I see how everything works in the end. There are many bad full groups though so I’m not too worried. Once the low level potted plants get weeded out with the matchmaking tweaks there will be plenty of groups a partial team of good players can beat if they get ok random fill ins. Remember the other people you get matched with will also be a partial group. It can’t be much worse then how it is now imo.

don’t worry, you’ll still be able to queue with 1-2 friends and get kitten d by full premades, nothing will change.
This time, however, you’ll probably end up with someone like you who queued with 1-2 friends as well, instead of that r1 newbie who just bought the game.

I am of the opinion that a split is NOT needed. HoN did a single que for both teams and solo players and it’s working just fine, it was rough at first but after the algorithms were ironed out you basically never get matched against another team unless it’s a partial in which case you probably have a partial on your team as well.
The real problem is the fact that this game relies so heavily on instant communication (voice) that a group of decent players can absolutely smash a group of random very skilled players purely through better communication.
They should be addressing that issue as well as continually tweaking the algorithms to make sure matches are as fair as possible.

Integrating VOIP software into the game is probably quite a bit more work than splitting ques, but if that is what you are getting at, then it is an alternative solution.
I would still prefer split ques, because even with integrated VOIP there are a lot of people that disable its functionality, thus handicapping their own team, and people who are so irritating to listen to that you would rather lose than hear them.
make it simple
soloQ only solo player vs solo player
but ask the player when he klick “Join solo”
just make 2 buttons^^ “Join Solo” and “I dont care” – the second one is what we have now- Just give for the Second one more rewards (glory rankpoints items whatever) and there will always be canonfodder for the premades.
