This is called having no sportsmanship. On the other hand, I myself am quite flattered when the opponents say I put up a good game.

If opponents say “gg” in chat it always makes me furious, especially if they won the match. If I did not win it is a bad game in my book. Only wins advance my achievements so defeats are a waste of time.
It’s just good sportsmanship. Like a bow after a fencing match.

I’d say its bad sportsmanship.
Losing team is supposed to judge if game was good, winners should only respond. Otherwise losing team may have feeling of “gg, easy”.
I don’t get it, every other single serious esport has a meta, and everyone follows it when they’re playing seriously. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

I feel like you’re over-thinking it. It shouldn’t be about who lost. Both teams should just say gg to eachother, like a shorthand “thanks for being my opponent.”
I don’t mind when people say “GG”. The problem comes when people say:
“GG lol”
“GG eat kitten”
“GG nubs”
Or anything like that. Unfortunately it happens fairly often. Not too much, but enough to make me skeptical that genuine, good sportsmanship exists on the internet.

I say gg for genuine good sportsmanship, and I exist. Or…at least I think I do?…
I post. Therefore I am.
I like to say “GG waypoint” to rub it in when the match deserves it. I know it’s supposed to be GG WP for “well-played”, but nah. If you lost you didn’t play well. It’s like, good game but go back to the waypoint again scrub!

I remember this was considered poor form in the SC/SC2 communities. The loser was expected to say GG first, then the winner.
Funnily, it was considered poor form for the loser to refuse to GG for the exact same reason; that the loser felt the game was not fairly won, which is an insult to the winner.
Just take the gg and don’t cry that you lost

So only say GG when I’m using a sub par YOLO build? Ok.

2. The meta is a “Flavor Of The Month” kind of thing anyway.
It’s also always based off of what the pro players are doing.
Which, if you haven’t noticed, they’re a highly organized team.
So certain things will work better for them, than it does in solo q.
Basically what I’m saying, is that the meta doesn’t matter.
Not for solo q anyway.

If you don’t play the meta, please don’t say gg. You’re dragging your team down.

the comments in this section. I say GG regardless if i won, lost, facerolled, or get decimated by the enemy. Why do people have to overanalyze everything. Take the compliment and be happy.

Life is complicated because people make it complicated.
Good sportsmanship in Guild Wars 2 PvP is sadly no exception.

^ is ofcourse true I’ve even run into people where I say GG and some one from opp team replies “BG too Easy” as winner. I usually report him for verbal abuse.
But also I generally say GL HF during the count down so people can see I am vocal and not get kittened off. And if someone replies poorly, I make it my mission to grief him as much as possible!
Please don’t.
Sincerely,
Lance King
You’re not Lance King. But your implied taste is music is “King”.
On Topic: I’ve never had an issue with GG on close matches, its the sarcastic GG on 100-500 games that is gross.
Like many others here, I only say “gg” if it was a fairly balanced, close match, whether as the winner or loser. If one side absolutely crushed the opposition, it’s perfectly understandable for the losers to be a bit sore about it. Likewise, saying “gg” as the winner in such a lopsided match just seems like rubbing it in.
I usually say GG when it was a fun exciting close match. Or if one team was losing but then comes back to win it with a close result.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
For most people, saying gg is a reflex. Me personally, I only say gg in map chat for games that were actually fun or close. If not, I just say it in team chat.
Either way, if you’re getting upset over people saying “gg” in map chat after they beat you, it reflects more truth about you than the person who said it.
my favorites are premades facing full pug team and then yelling “ez pz” or “easy”
[Teef] guild :>
i say gg after every map whether win or loss, close or steamrolled. its about sportsmanship and manors of thanking the other people for playing & trying hard whether they win or lose.
but hey if as gluten said

esports are nonsense, so showing sportsmanship in “esports” is nonsense, too
It just feels patronizing to get told “gg” when u get 500-100 roflstomped by a 5 man ratsquad. The game wasnt good, it was a trash matchup and the chances of the pugs winning were minimal at most. I keep my GG’s for the actual games that were close/ not stomps :p

gg only has two places
1) at the end of a close, well fought match you genuinely enjoy.
2)against kittening scrubs that you want to demoralize back to cursed shore

There are no GG’s, GF’s or any form of GLHF in PVP. So your best solutions when this is said are:
1. Block the user that said it (prepare for a bigger block list)
2. Change your mapchat tab to something else so you never need to even look at PVP trash talk.
3. Use my phrase above whenever someone does say GG, GF or GLHF.
Problem solved.
… Well sorry to annoy you with my good sportsmanship because you can’t be bothered to catter to the most effective build currently around, right?

In it’s current state right now. No it’s not a place for GG’s or fun. Right now it’s a pool for players to farm collections or AP. Nothing more and nothing less. Trying for those pip’s? Have fun gaining a few and then lose near all of them because of matchmaking.
GLHF is good sportsmanship.
GG is not: it doesn’t translate as a hand shack after a game. It might be true in case of close games; otherwise, the person doesn’t understand what “good game” means or is trolling.
Most players don’t even know the difference between GG and GZ (congratulation) nowadays. Like someone saying he reached rank 80, and others replying “GG”… Good sportsmanship there! Oh wait…
It’s just good sportsmanship. Like a bow after a fencing match.
I’d say its bad sportsmanship.

Pretty sure OP hit the nail. If people are playing all bunkery, it’s not a good game.
Say GG if game was good. Don’t say GG if it wasn’t. That hard?

I don’t say GG when my team won 500:50. It would be a lie and I understand if people get upset over it. But apparently there are a few who genuinely enjoy lopsided games, I really couldn’t care less.

plz don’t play ranked if you’re not playing meta…. yes, it has come to this….. #buildshaming
I don’t play “Meta” and I rekt meta users, and you know what else, I say gg meta dweeb, get rekt by non meta rawrrawrrawr
Um, no thank you. I say GG whenever it is what I consider a good game. ThIs could be after a close win or loss. I usually don’t say it if I see bad sportsmanship. Deriding comments in map chat, people going afk, etc.
I’ll even say GG after winning a lopsided victory, especially if everyone tried to win the whole game. Is it really their fault the MatchMaker put a thief and warrior on the same team? I don’t think so.

I used to say gg all the time after a match and the only time I didn’t was when I was very angry at the result and would rather just forget the game and move on (if I lost from a fantastic position for example). However now I only say it if I genuinely enjoyed the game and it was close and enjoyable for presumably both teams, because if everyone says it all the time, no one says it any of the time (it becomes almost meaningless).
I do see some people saying it sarcastically but they always make another comment afterwards so a simple ‘gg’ is never really sarcastic, so I don’t see the problem with people saying it if they enjoyed the game, regardless of circumstances.

What an utterly ridiculous thread topic. “GG” is good sportsmanship and shows respect for your team mates and the opponent. If I lose a match, but it was a good fight, I will still say ‘gg wp’. It’s polite and courtious. Why is the gaming community so simple minded over this concept? You don’t see football teams all taking the hump at the end of a game, (not most anyway lol), they shake hands and move on. Please stop with the nonsense threads.

At least I laughed when I read it… not like the eternity of whine about the current meta that makes me cringe each time I so much look at them (don’t even start me when I bother sifting through the mess of answers that it can create)
I think it does become a problem when players use GG to rub it in the fact that they facerolled a team.
I agree that in some case, it should be the losing team’s responsability to claim GG, but then again, GW2 is one of the game that has the least norms and values when it comes to sportsmanship
