PSA: Only you can prevent lord throws
I love this post. Nicely put and very succinct.
Id like to add that… if you want to solo lord, please make sure you have the correct build for it…
If you dont know if you have the correct build for it, try that build on forest beasties first. If you can kill those beasties without using up all your cooldowns and in a short enough time, you have a chance at it. If you dont…. please dont even attempt it.
Im speaking from experience here I tried rushing lord at 400 vs enemy lord rush… with a corruption necro… no boons to corrupt, not enough condis to stack… jesus, I was so stupid to even try it.
I have seen this…..someone tries to solo lord at the start of the match…..fails…..runs back for second attempt, or third (all the while teammates are asking him/her not to)…..by the time the lord is actually defeated, the team is down 150-200 pts. So now the score is even or still down. And that player will say “the score is close because I am keeping us in it by killing lord”. But in reality the score is close because your team had to 4v5 while you were attempting lord, instead of helping them cap/defend.

Why ???
There is a lord with guards in the HotM. If you want to try a lord kill, try it at a lord.
Last time I checked, those NPCs in hotm did not match their counterparts in matches. The beasties were considerably stronger, lord had more hp.
But.. I didnt check for at least a year, so might be fixed.
Lord vs a half decent Dragonhunter, lord is dead in 60 seconds from first door hit. Though, I agree. Going for lord at the wrong time can cost the match.

Also never underestimate the psychological aspects of the lord still being alive.
If you lord is dead and both team have about the same amount of points, you dont have to worry about anything but keeping close and mid.
If both teams run head-to-head in late mid game, and your lord is still alive, you have to watch out for it constantly and always prepare for an enemy lord rush. If the enemies lord is still alive you can use it to skip players, who start panicking the second the most feared ‘your lord is under attack’ is heard.

Except if the enemy is foolish enough to 2v1 (or more) on lord, leaving the remaining 4 players to dominate all 3 caps. I’ve seen it happen quite a few times, its easy to tunnelvision an entire team. Well, a pug team at least. Leaving the team to 4v5 would be impossible, since anyone facing no enemies wouldnt need to run back – he’d kill the lord already.
