PSA: PVP Leaderboard Reset Tomorrow

The point is that it would have been somewhat arbitrary to suddenly decide to give special rewards before this reset.
Maybe give us a reason why? I havent seen a good one so far.
Just give me 1 good reason why people who put hundreds of hours into this arent rewarded in any way, while people who suicide on skyhammer are getting 4 times the rewards.
I mean come on, i played like 500 hours of this and now some trolls tell me i havent deserved anything? Maybe at least give glory for the top300 or stuff like that. Its not that i want much, but ANYTHING would be appretiated…cause ur place wasnt put in stone from the start! it was only temporary. seems your brain has complications to understand that. that as basis tells you all u need. there was no timeline to reach a certain rank bound to reward published. it was a permanent modified rank with no goal! and the reset is nothing else then a hard decoy on every player.

some random reasons
1) sync queueing
2) matchmaker putting 5 high ranked ppl vs 5 lower ranker ppl resulting in the first team almost always winning and climbing (and the other team losing ranks). Also made possible by sync queuing
3) almost non-existant decay (it started ticking after like 2 months, and it would let you jump back to 1st position after resuming play, see Kultas’ thread months ago)

@1+3: How many ppl we´re talking about? Maybe 10 inside the top100? They should be the reason 90% has to suffer???
@2: 5 high ranked ppl winning vs. 5 low ranks did NOTHING to their ranks, thats what the rating have been for… 0o
Neither the high ranks nor the lowranks had any big changes in their MMR in such an unbalanced matchup. Maybe you should have played the ladder before you start complaining?

lol, so im bad cause i think ppl dont deserve any reward for sitting x amount of time on position y on a broken leaderboard. so who should get a reward? the person place x at reset? the person on same place y time before person 1 hour before reset was getting the place? everyone who was placed sometime on x?
u dont deserve a reward. its simple. it was a TEMPORARY position with NO TIMELIMIT! if u was setting your goal to be on position xyz thats your problem!

Huh? So we didnt all started at point 0 when Anet released the leaderboards???
I just played a few solo queues today. As have a few friends. It seems unanimous that in the majority of our games we had leavers and afkers. I hope you plan to reset it again because this is ridiculous.
On a slightly unrelated note, perhaps disabling solo queue all together would be the better choice. Team queue is taken seriously. Solo queue is played more like a small hot-join. Most of the people I have spoken to, friends and guildies, all refer to solo queue rank as not mattering. I don’t know how this can be fixed, but at the very least until you get a better rank system you should just stop ranking players. There are far too many quitters/afkers/total randoms on teams they shouldnt be on. MMR is not working properly. In what sense is it balanced to have a rank 5 and 6 on your team when you are versing all 30+ players. We were decimated btw.
I’ve played a lot of pvp in a lot of games, I am aware that developing a rank system for solo queue style play is hard as hell, but until you have something of a solution, just get rid of the leaderboard all together. It’s meaningless in the eyes of a large portion of the community.
Will we ever see the return of extended match tournies btw? I really liked the 3 map matches in paids/free tournies.

If you read back on the LARGE number of threads explaining this, you will see that ArenaNet admitted the flaw was this: If you were lucky to land on a good team in the first few matches, your MMR rose. THEN, in your next matches the matcher would find 5 people of a similar high MMR, put you on a team with them, and then look for the next set of MMR and form a second, most often much LOWER MMR team to play against you. (Thus being given a chance to improve their ranks. The PROBLEM was, there were so few people playing that the GAP in the average MMRs was WAY too big and the weaker team would almost always lose.)
Because higher MMR players typically had a better team from them on, they tended to win, and rise in the ranks and were always teamed with better players.
People who were unlucky enough to lose their first several matches always landed on lower-ranked teams and usually lost, sinking further.

This is a friendly reminder that we’ll be resetting the leaderboard for Solo Arena and Team Arena with tomorrow’s updates.
We decided to reset the leaderboards because of the matchmaking changes we put in on November 12th. Those changes, along with the leaderboard reset, should allow for a much more competitive environment going forward. Because the matches will be more competitive, players should also be placed in their correct rating much more accurately. I’d like to make it very clear that this reset does not mark the end of an official ‘season’, and as such, we will not be rewarding players for leaderboard placement. I know that this may be a tough pill to swallow for our more hardcore players, but we hope you understand our reasoning behind this.
That said, we’re not opposed to giving players rewards based on ladder placement in the future. Next week we’ll be able to give more details on our plans for the leaderboards, rewards, and beyond.
Let me translate this based upon experience:
- if you are serious about PvP, this reset will put you in teams with players that are rank 1. So don’t play for a while.
