PVP Tourny ruined because of rewards....
Agreed

I would really like some response from Anet about this, i think it would greatly benefit the players, less raging about bad match making and players, and you will be forced to accept that the enemy team was better, unlike now where either you play with r1 or some of your team is afk because: “who cares i still get gold” ( was an actual response from a player in my team)
What you suggest has been suggested countlessly. The best solution imo is to make tournaments have a rank 10+ or even 20+ requirement.
The matchmaking should’ve solved this a long long time ago, but hélas, it’s still terrible.
I honestly cannot see anything bad if a change like that is made, i for once played hot joins at least till rank 12 so i wouldn’t ruined anyone else’s game, but than again that’s just me…
Tempted to say yes, but have to balance this against tournament having so few players queing at times.
If they’re joining tourney due to it giving gold, they’re doing it wrong as “pve” players, they probably decided to give it a try and don’t enjoy the zerg that is hotjoin. But I think everyone can agree there should be a minimal rank 10 required or something around those lines for tourney pvp, at least that really doesn’t take long to get. Also considering the skyhammer farm fest that happened, and how ranks work even 10+ isn’t gonna save you from brain dead players but its a start right?
It would be fine if new players weren’t started at such a high MMR.
It’s not the rewards. Gold can be gotten in lots of places at better rates than tournaments, including, for example, in hot join.
It’s the achievements.
The new daily achievement points are a time limited rewards and can only be gotten in tournaments.
Anet needs to stop this ASAP, or sPvP will be flooded with pve grinders.
Well the most effective fix would be that r30 or r40 people be playing with or against at least r20+ people , i honestly don’t know how this match making system can suck this much, even wow on private servers has a better MMR lol.
PvE grinders are fun to stomp though :/ I kinda like the influx of new blood into sPvP! New people will help to reinvigorate the system…

Not so fun when you are rank 37 and you get to play with rank 3 and rank 2 vs rank 40 players is it?
Yeah, this idea has been kicking around for a long time, and it’s a good one.
PvE “grinders” probably don’t care about a few extra acchievement points from pvp dailies. It’s a different subset of the playerbase, the “completionists”, that do. And those two do not always overlap. And to be honest, the new pvp dailies are very harsh for them. Winning a single game can already be hard for some players (which is fine), forcing them to win about 8 (?) games is just too time-consuming. An acchievement completionist needs to spend their entire day to get the full daily bonus from both game modes together from this change alone. Aren’t dailies meant to complement your activities in this game? Not tire them out of the game? So yeah, I do think they’re currently very harsh.
About gold rewards for losing, I think it should be scaled. If your team loses 100-500, you should get almost no silver (it would still be good for pve newbies, who can’t get much more in pve either at that point of the game), but tighter 450-500 matchs should reward the losing players with, say, 75% of the gold they would otherwise get with a victory.
This would push players into trying their best, even when they’re not convinced that they will win.

But the hot join matches (8vs8) are horrible. It’s like a completly different game.
And the arenas need these player, kind of. It was a pain to wait like 15minutes before you got in a match and some of these players will probably go after they realized that spvp isn’t their thing. Others will get better.
Matchmaking is more the problem here, but it was reseted not long ago. So perhaps it will work out?
a rank cap really is needed for tpvp. at least for soloQ (as it makes sense to be able to start a team comp with a low-rank buddy)
it is really annoying to have rank 1’s in your team, as you haven’t got the time to explain even the necessary basics to them during match. (i do not have any problem with noobs in tpvp, but this is ranked only and there is no unranked option for them and that ruines the experience of the other players). they are dual-capping, they watch you shooting treb etc).
then the next problem is the starting mmr of new players, which is a bit too high imo. even if there will be a rank-cap in the future the starting mmr needs to be addressed.
another problem is showing the ranks at the end, pls just remove it (would be nice to replace it by leaderboard ranking though). because this only forces players to statements like

or
None of this would be necessary if the match making works but since rank 36 can be pared with lvl 1 and lvl 3 a fix like that is a must.
that are totally wrong because rank doesn’t count into mmr and i just /facepalm everytime i read those messages blaming mmr with a totally wrong argument
no gutz no glory
“Tranquility has a beard.”
There’s a fresh crowd of new sPVP players — this is a very good thing. As they get better at understanding positioning and rotations in tPVP, they will get better. Hotjoin does not train players to tPVP. It never will. It’s a fun mode for trying out new builds or having a quick relaxing game.
In a week, the MMR system will have figured out the MMR of all these new players and matchmaking will improve. The only problem is that new players start with an MMR that’s too high for the average player.
Is this a troll post?
Pvp community hipster, Liked pvp before it had a population.
Pretty much what Kharr said. Give it time and rejoice about the fact that now you can queue in odd hours and get a match in a few minutes or less.
tournaments fine and mists full with people
i said it months ago this game has mmo playerbase and need rewards to attract them and when we get more people in spvp than tournaments can only grow
when enough people play and you are good you will never see the starters in your team – its only now cause low playerbase
we need more playerz so be nice and happy bout what you get^^
give it time
I say rank 10 solo q and rank 20 team q or else it might push people away from PvP because it would take them too long to get to rank 20 doing hot join. But yes I fully agree there needs to be a rank requirement to do ranked matches. To the person above that said it should go the opposite that I said with team matches being lower rank requirement all I say is that you can still solo q in team q.

Hey i like the fresh crowd in the mist too, what i don’t like i seeing a person who never played pvp in his life immediately jumping in tourny math, actually i wouldn’t mind that also if the mmr pair the new players vs new players, but since its broken than that is why i suggested that fix, and yes i know hot join is not the same as tourny but you can actually test a lot of stuff there and even there you can play 5v5 match or 4v4 if you don’t like zergs.

At the same time I regret my post because you may also be right.
Thoughts:
- If Arenanet just sets base MMR much, much lower, this problem would be resolved very quickly. No restrictions to entering tPvP, I feel any restrictions, no matter how small would be a drag.
- In high level tournies, or tPvP when EU/NA tournament players have to transfer to the other region to play in a tourney, they have to use a new account. Even though these are largely done in Custom Arenas, wanting to do some practice queues before or after with your friends isn’t uncommon. Don’t crap on these people, competitive play is tough enough not being able to consolidate the regional servers.
- Rewards are NOT ruining tPvP. In the short run, an influx of new players can be a drag, if your MMR is equally bad (har har, get good, basically, not meaning to be rude) but more players = the MMR system working better!!!! So in the long run, the new players will be able to take advantage of a better system and get better. And then maybe 1% of those waves of players will become a part of a competitive team .. but I don’t wanna get ahead of myself.

Sorry double post but I think it would be nice if the devas gave us a predicted time non when the new ladder system is going to be in place this would satisfy a lot of players about matchmaking if its not too long. If we’re talking a year down the road than something probably needs to be changed now IMO.

2. I am pretty sure rank 10 in hot joins can be easily achieved with the new system that boosted rank points, so those new players will have no trouble getting there in just a few days.
3. The mmr needs system that pairs people based on their ranks only, in no way a rank 3 should go against a rank 50 and vice versa, i never met anyone who is rank 3 to be better than a rank 30+ player in all my matches played, maybe there is an exception like 1 in 100000 but usually that is not the case, so yeah mmr needs fixing asap and if that is fixed i would want restrictions either, but for the moment i have to ask for them.
Rank 10 is about 5-7 days of casual play 1-2 hours a day by my calcs..
R1-10 =10500 rank points? ~
150rp per match that’s 70?~ matches,
Average hotjoin amount per hour= 7 i.e 10 hours total
I would not be opposed to a rank 5-10 cap on soloque/teamque only for their own protection..
if 15 silvers attrats players then there is something wrong in the game….
