Paid Tournaments-amazing yet Empty
Just a sidenote: I totally dislike that you guys still need tickets won in free tournies to enter.
Why? Because it means free tournies are still pug vs paid tourny premade earning tickets.
For the rest: of course I wish you lot have short queues. An maybe shorter waiting times between fights as well…
I find it odd that it isn’t cross server already. Do they expect this incredible fload of teams on each server?
I’m pretty sure all sPvP is cross-server already. You can even group with people on your friends list from other servers and enter tournaments with them. Also, you get tickets from the chests, so even participating in a paid tournament and losing right away gives you a chance to win tickets back. Then of course there’s buying chests with glory.
Tickets are pretty easy to come by for serious teams. Also, qualifying points will become much more desirable when they actually mean anything (as soon as they add the bigger tournaments). Making rewards better could be a good idea, but lowering the cost of entry will potentially decrease the quality of teams entering. Its supposed to be somewhat risky to make sure the competition is serious.
Too many premades still Queueing in free tournaments.
It is cross server, but it is not cross REGION which is what the OP wants. I am also a little dissapointed with the “depth” of the queue system. While I have really enjoyed the increased competition level of paid it seems that the queues are only reasonably quick from 4pst-10/11pst. You can get a queue maybe an hour or two outside of that window but I don’t think they run the vast majority of the time outside of that window.

because ppl who get stomped wants to win and stop randoms
-rank 41 guardian-
-Desolation EU-
Wouldn’t the lag make that pretty undesirable? Especially if you’re “paying” for your matches you’d want it to be as fair as possible, and one or the other region would physically have to be the host server.
Has there been any news on ladder system being implemented? I’ve no idea why paid and free tourneys exist without a ladder system.
I’m able to get a paid tourny in about 10 minutes of waiting.
It’s not ideal but it’s not terrible.
Myself and friends are avoiding paid tournaments strictly because the majority of us play classes that absolutely suck. We have no reason to waste tickets on fights we know we are going to lose unless we run the standard comps and abuse the cheese builds/classes. So until then, I’m sure a lot of people playing the mediocre classes won’t bother. I’m still waiting for my ranger to even be at a disadvantage against other classes rather than the usual instant loss.
What classes are those? I play a necro and I have to be seriously outplayed to lose to anything but a ranger, so it can’t be either of those.
Most premades are still too busy farming pugs in unfair free tournament games.
been playing paid tourneys on eu for 3 days now we had 0 issues with waiting queues as of yet
we didnt find something in <10min at one point but it was 3pm so it was to be expected not very much was going on

I would like to ask if this is the same even on off-peak times?
on the US servers, off-peak times (like oceanic prime time) are usually dead for paid tournaments. My group and I sat in queue for a good hour or so last night, with no pop, and thus decided to go back to free tournaments instead of wasting our time.
If Euro servers are still active off peak, then I think we may try moving to euro just to play some paids during our prime time.

i can’t say since we only play at around peak times sry
i definitely dont think its a rewards issue, its a LFT/M/G issue and no ranking system.. Ive been very dedicated to spvp. Im rank 34 and am a leader of a once active tourney guild. However all my core members, quit this game, for many reasons but mostly because of no ranking. So being stuck making new friends I have had a real hard time LF teams of my skill lvl who even have tournament tickets to spend.. Sitting in the mists and spamming LFT PAIDS in map is not working since the entire chat is dead. You will only see LF BUNKER for tourney.. You can only sit in the mists for so long before you start begging your friends on skype to stop playing LoL/WoW just to get a game.. Bout to give up. yelp.
Get rid of tournaments and make paid matches !!!
or Both ^^
And Free Matches too, I dont wanna play the “8×8 super casual mode”; I wanna 5×5 without be in a torney, with map rotation like the hotjoin.I dont care if dont hv rewards and stuff just play a quick good match is already good for me
to those that say your mist is dead, transfer to anvil rock, i see a lot of people here even now and its 3 am. and people still forming teams…
Just a side-effect of ArenaNet adding paid tournaments and other improvents to sPvP way too late instead of having them ready at launch
Really disheartening to hear this. If paids don’t have enough people, the obvious solution is to have scaling paid tournaments on preset times every day.
An important thing that makes tournaments hard to access is that the playerbase is spread across dozens of servers and there’s no obvious cross-server PuG system. This would eventually help people form lasting teams for paid tournas. Paids are currently only for guilds and people who formed a network of friends at the higher levels of PvP (and were lucky enough that their friends didn’t quit forever before paids arrived).
there are premades, like mine, that still needs to practice and learn to play better, so these premades play free tourney.
there are also other premades that needs tickets, so they play free tourney.
what is the problem in forming a team for you? when i am alone and i play free tourney, 90% of the times my team lose is because players are newbie/noobs and don’t want to cooperate. but i still play alone some tourney to improve some build/my skill.
Simple solution is to make it cost 1 ticket per player imo. Current cost is too high.
Let’s hope they give us a “Free tourney” that’s essentially a premade-free Solo Queue.
If they finally give us what we wanted in the way of paid tournaments (which is indeed a nice improvement) and the pvp community isn’t big enough to support it, then prospects are bleak. Hopefully they’ll pander to us and give more incentive or lower cost to get queues popping quicker.
However, I do like how the system is currently setup and would hate to see it change so I just hope more teams start forming up.
What about fixing pvp? Starting with quickness going through bunker builds and ending with moa and teleport?

If developers keep pretending everything is fine, pvp in this game is going to die, plain and simple. Wanna bet?

I watched a stream a few days ago. It was team Paradigm.
They had Jon Peters joining them for a match (maybe more, just saw one with him). At least, that’s what it appeared to be.
Either way: they had like 240 viewers and were amazed at the numbers being so high.
It’s not that they are bad or anything. I just fear that the pvp community in and around this game, isn’t all that big anymore.
With the launching of paid tournaments, I hope it’s going to be some new injection to the game. But for the moment that isn’t happening yet.
This goes beyond the pvp being good or bad, or balanced or not. Opinions may vary on that.
But if you don’t have players, because of whatever reason, you don’t have a real pvp scene.
IF ppl stay in free tournaments they will never get really good. practicing against random pugs pretending to be good is a waste of time in my opinion. stop worrying about losing and come have fun. if u win the first map u get ur tickets back.

ANets incompetence of focusing on priorities shows.
“I know, lets make paid tournaments for our 0.1% of PvPers and totally ignore horrible mess that is called sPvP.”
Note to ANet, first you create good, fun and casual competitive scene which will attract more players from which more pro teams will arrise which will fill up paid tournament sector.
Instead ANet goes; We ignore casuals, let it be horrible mess which none enjoys and create paid tournament option for our tiny player base and then wonder why players do not use it.
Pure incompetence. Just like JP’s popular comment about mastering DS for necros while he himself failed at it horribly.
^So true.
I really, really hope Anet wakes up and makes the PvP attractive for casuals.
I read some keywords over and over again and they probably do aswell.
Rankings (every1 likes to watch himself/others climb ladders)
Fun “casual” modes – Make sPvP 5v5 and the problem is ALMOST solved
Just keep attracting the casual PvP scene – I don’t know how but you are the experts anyway
Just watch this “PvP-Event” from the Halloween-Event – dude its so fun (love the sniping ability on 5) and its almost something like Capture the Flag. Implement this kind of game into the Mists and attract the casual scene or something.
I know – the game is in its early phase and stuff. And I highly believe that this is going somehwere. I mean, it’s no big deal that all streams are empty YET, as the game (hopefully?) is only in its early state.
Enough rambling, have a good day every1
I agree on lowering the paid cost. Also I think free tournaments should only be solo queue and the paid should be team queue. It sucks playing against 5 man guild groups when I am with 5 random puggers.
Alter the system a bit :P
And let them <<choose>> their rewards :P
With 1 ticket per person = 30 gems for wining the first place
3 tickets = 150 gems
5 tickets = current gems :P

Reasoning for Free Tournies allowing team que:
Order of events -
1: sPvP – Find friends, get better at your prof. understand PvP
2: fPvP – Get friends together, try cohesiveness. Learn strategies and communication skills.
3: pPVP – Compete against other teams of friends that have strategies and communications skills in order to better yourself as a player.
I think it’s a pretty good layout. However I do think that tournies cost an awful lot, and that barrier of entry will eventually peter out, forcing a lot of people to rarely play.
