Patch notes? C'mon, at least the day before
Given that their patches end up disappointing the PvP community, they probably want to keep your hopes up as long as possible before bursting it on the patch day.
They also don’t want help from the community. That would lead to PvP actually improving — not in their interest.
Patch notes:
New leaderboards should be visible in a week
You can now get laurels from pvp daily and monthly
No significant balance changes – meta still ele dominated

I wouldn’t really count on that, they’ve only mentioned it in SOTG and in absolutely no other place. They’ve given 3-4 interviews and there were blog posts about the patch, they didn’t mention laurels anywhere.
they cant even write the correct notes when the patch comes (this happened on the most important one of them all) and u expect them to do it ahead of time. Theres not much to write anyway.
The time before the next patch is something like magic: you still have hope for the future and for the upcoming changes. In this moment you still have faith and you see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. So, taste this moment while you can, feel it, enjoy it. Tomorrow you will be disappointed as usually, don’t worry about that.

I find it appalling that this even needs to be brought up WTF are they doing over at Anet do they want this game to succeed? or are they trying to get rid of the PvP community and just turn it into a noobcentric pve/wvw game?

everyone is so negative… will i be defending their patches like some blind fanboys on this forum? hell no. Every patch was a disappointment especially for my primary class mez. I expect them to break more noticeable things than improve things that matter.
I find it appalling that this even needs to be brought up WTF are they doing over at Anet do they want this game to succeed? or are they trying to get rid of the PvP community and just turn it into a noobcentric pve/wvw game?
Try to think about that from the position of the developer that wants to earn money with that game – what would you care more about? pve or pvp?
PvP does not create any kind of profits. PvP players dont spend money in the shop(Because they dont get anything out of it except 1 skin-set. and that stupid backpack thingy. wow.). So why should they care about them?
Chill out, it’s 1 day.
CHILL OUT MAN.
JUST CHILL.
OUT.
BioShock Infinite comes out tomorrow anyway, who has time for GW2?
yo im thinkin of playin dota2 is that a good game?
try smite instead
When its ready.
Why so anxious of getting disappointed once again? We all know is gonna be a bad patch for spvp as usual….let us live without knowing how they’re managing to ruin pvp even more for one more day…

There is many examples of PvP based games doing well right now look at LoL that game brings in majority of its revenue from its cash shop not to mention games that dont have any sort of cash shop or subscription fee such as Counter Strike and Starcraft yet all these games are doing very well. There is huge money to be made in PvP ESPECIALLY for those games considered e-sport but they have to invest the time and money to get there before they will see the return, and if they dont PvP will die and at that point they should just change the name of the game to Zerg Wars or maybe PvE Wars so they can fade into nothing like soo many games before them without disgracing the great PvP game that was the original Guild Wars

Haha…. Kinda funny to see if ppl switch from GW2 to Smite, just because GW2 is missing so many features… Because at it’s core, GW2 is so much better than Smite.
I couldn’t play Smite for more than an hour: The handling of the Chars is horrible, the MOBA-adaptation into 3D simply doesn’t work on so many Levels and I kept trying to dodge (still THE BEST feature of GW2; Hat’s off to ANet…. I’ll probably never be able to play another game like GW2 that hasn’t got sth. like the Dodge-Mechanic, because it makes everything more exciting and responsive and adds so much depth to the game).
Really, if a game like Smite can get more Viewers on Twitch.tv and be a more successful e-Sport (afaik they already had some decent Tournaments at Pax or sth.), then ANet needs to take a hard look at themselves, because on every level besides a few key-features, GW2 is a superior game.
About the Patchnotes: Custom Arenas most likely will not be in it, so I really don’t care.

Lots of teams have already switched to other games like smite, my team is trying it out and its pretty fun, I like it way more then dota 2 as well. Dota2 is pretty close to how LoL works but smite is something new and addicting, and you don’t feel that sense of failure as much from not last hitting every single last mob.
edit: If you can get pass the way smite looks, you’ll probably like it a lot.

wait, people still have hope?
that must take some endurance!
Try to think about that from the position of the developer that wants to earn money with that game – what would you care more about? pve or pvp?
i’ve just spent an embarrassing amount of money on Planetside 2 microtransactions, a purely pvp game, there is alot of money to be made in pvp if the devs want it,
it’s clear that in gw2 pvp was just a side experiment, a minigame, a disappointment.
yo im thinkin of playin dota2 is that a good game?
Yeah. Others and I played it recently and it is really fun, though be aware to learn a lot of details.
Oh and time to enjoy Bioshock Infinite soon.
I prefer league of legends now to dota 2, but i play it occasionally since my old dota team/friends are still hardcore about it. I played dota for over 7 years, as well as the dota style maps on starcraft before wc3 came out (even made some of my own before dota allstars took over). Needless to say, dota 2 feels like i’m going back and playing mario brothers 1 with a face lift. league of legends made a lot of improvements to how the game works and i’m happy with that (and this is coming from a guy who competed in dota 1, even won the first blizzard held dota tournament in 2005)
But i’m more pumped atm for playing the new gears of war, as it is really really fun. And they just put in the map “militia” to counter strike go, which was always my favorite…cept no giant surprise in the toilet to explode.
Smite just confirmed that GW2 needs a moba style pvp mode. Its fun, graphicly however for something that forces you to look that close at the models…it coulda used a better art design. (aka GW2 art….)
PS: anyone else play demi god? that was a fun moba for the whole 2 months it lasted.

I have to strongly disagree here, here’s why:
- The MOBA-Concept is pretty fun, but there are more than enough MOBA’s out there that are practically the same and with Smite, we even have a 3D one – do we really need another one?
- GW1 was all about different Maps and even different Game-Modes, this just doesn’t work with a MOBA-Style Game.
- MOBA’s don’t work nearly as good in a third-Person Perspective: You need to be able to look around the Map, actively control certain Minions, scout out Gear-progression (you can’t rely on your teammates to tell you in solo-q’s for example) etc.
- It would cost ANet a ton of ressources they don’t have atm.
- The MOBA-Genre is oversaturated immensely; how can GW2 get any Players if they don’t set themselves apart in any way?
- GW2 is set around longer fights and has excellent mechanics (like dodgeing), why would you let that slip through your Fingers with a Game-Mode where you could just sit behind Creeps, being guarded by a Tower, so no1 could attack you in the first Part of the Game?
The Game-Mode of MOBA’s is not as good and successful as it is now, because it is exactly that Game-Mode it is right now, but it works because it follows a few Principles of making good Game-Modes that ANet could easily get inspired by:
1) There are Multiple Objectives and ways to win a Game (Farming, Tower-pushing, Ganking etc.)
2) There are several things a Char can do at any time. Take the early-game for example; a Char could harrass, farm, deny, go around ganking, farm in the jungle, bottle-run, rune-control etc.
3) It offers a Multitude of possible Strategies that require certain Team-Setups, this makes things interesting before the Game has even started (what are they trying to do with their Lineup, how will it work against the other Team etc.)
If we simply take a look at the GvG-Mode, or even a slightly better Conquest with more important Secondary Objectives, it could easily qualify as a good Game-Mode with most of the Advantages of the MOBA Game-Mode, while still being more suitable for GW2.

Gw2 having long fights only happens when/because you can devote all but 10 of your trait points to not dying and it isn’t a full teamfight. Damage occurs in such enormous bursts and with plenty of aoe that most big fights don’t last particularly long because the only defensive tool you have available to you is to defeat your enemy.
Also, calling dodging an excellent mechanic is a bit much. My problem with it is that some traited dodge effects are way better than others and as a result, with vigor and energy sigils, you spend half your time rolling around being immune to damage while activating an ability.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all. [/quote]

There are builds that can burst well and there are builds that are easier to burst down than others, but I’d say that on average, fights last longer than in most MOBA’s. Not only because of dodgeing, certain builds that are very hard to kill, various stunbreakers etc. but also because of the downed-state (another great mechanic IMHO). My Point was that GW2 doesn’t need the creep-kill “Minigame” in the early stages of the Game to be interesting, which is of course a matter of opinion.

That’s like saying you don’t like Burger because your local Burger-King Puts too much Horse-Meat in it. ^^’
Certain classes can take better advantage of dodgeing, that’s true, but that doesn’t mean dodgeing isn’t an extremely well thought out and implemented Idea, that brings so much more depth to the Gameplay.
It’s in Fact such a good Idea, that I see no reason why not every game that is at least somewhat similar to GW2, shouldn’t have sth. like that.
Sigh, i also wish they would release the patch notes a few days in advance. Who knows some major problem could be head off.

And conquest is new?? World of warcraft, gears of war, tf2, league of legends, battlefield, unreal, etcetc…..all had this game style before Guild wars 2. moba’s have only recently been gaining mainstream popularity and theres only one 3d one and its technically not out yet. I think theres a market to tap into here.
- MOBA’s don’t work nearly as good in a third-Person Perspective: You need to be able to look around the Map, actively control certain Minions, scout out Gear-progression (you can’t rely on your teammates to tell you in solo-q’s for example) etc.
all game modes benefit from knowing whats going on the map, smite works just fine in third person. Also, who says guild wars 2 moba had to be a clone that would include gear progression? this is a narrow assumption of what Guild wars 2 “moba” would be like.
- The MOBA-Genre is oversaturated immensely; how can GW2 get any Players if they don’t set themselves apart in any way?
once again, ticket system king of the hill style combat is over saturated…..FAR more over satured, its in like every multiplayer game now (and has been for years). Yet they keep sticking it in games. Same with capture the flag…was in half of multiplayer games that could support it. People play whats fun. guild wars 2 would not be hurt by putting in a mode thats popular. And, guild wars 2 is nothing like the moba games that exist…once again, narrow out look on it.
- GW2 is set around longer fights and has excellent mechanics (like dodgeing), why would you let that slip through your Fingers with a Game-Mode where you could just sit behind Creeps, being guarded by a Tower, so no1 could attack you in the first Part of the Game?
I realized i’m just gonna be repeating myself. You are stuck on the narrow minded perspective that if GW2 had its own moba style game mode that it would have to mirror whats on the market. It would be unique in the sense you HAVE dodging and longer team fights. No one said the point of winning would be last hitting creeps…as gw2 would not support a gear progression system it would work differently. The battle would most likely be a tug of war style approach with increasing your battlement in the way Demi-god did (a failure moba with good ideas, but had no match make on release and connectivity problems preventing people from even playing it online, otherwise was a really good game)
Look at Reapers Rumble. It was very much inspired by moba with league of legend mechanics (you could hide in tall grass and only be seen by other people in tall grass). It did not work ENTIRELY like other moba though, in that the system was around fighting in the middle over resources to create troops faster to try to overwhelm your enemy to take out his barracks. Its thinking outside the box, reinventing the moba playstyle to fit into gw2. Non of your reasoning attacking gw2 having this type of play style is relevant because they’re all problems you could solve while still holding the base play style which is “5 guys behind an npc army trying to take out 5 guys behind an npc army to eventually blow up a building/npc they are protecting”.
You also dont need 3 lanes, proving grounds (abyss) for league of legends shows you can have this mode with a congested lane…resulting in constant 5v5 team fights. Something that would make a lot of players very happy as they enjoy big crazy team fights (why so many people in hotjoin etc like to just duke it out right infront of the orb instead of cap anything….they know it isnt effective, they are just having more fun doing it)
anyway, a moba style map could work, it would be different than other mobas out there, with its own gw2 twist, and be successful. Every problem you found, there is a solution to. In everything. you can see a problem and immidiatly dimiss and give up, OR you can innovate and find a way to over come that problem.

Even Sim City has more viewers than GW2 lol.
ANet really fails at delivering.

We kind of already did have MOBA.
The some of the core mechanics are still there, just sucks that we couldn’t use our own abilities in it.

You can’t post on the forums with anything under 15 characters long.
A lot of people type that if their answer is under the character minimum so that the don’t have to say something else.
Post require 15 characters to post. therefore most short answers are accompanied with /15chars or something of the like to add up to 15.
thats it?
