Someone should tell these guys to use finishers, I want to hear people get bear finished and shark finished.

I’d like to see phoenix finisher but sadly none of these guys are rank 70 yet, bear finisher is my favorite though because I love that growl.

Very disappointing to see no one in this tournament use finishers…. Finishers are part of GW2.

People took me seriously? It’s a good call in a pressure heavy meta that’s all. Thief and necro have to be really good to even think about running it.

Great job all around. I missed the whole thing but I’m sure it was a blast to be in for those that were. those that participated and didn’t make it to the finals, don’t despair! This is healthy competition and it allows everyone to look back and become better as a team. :-)

I prefer best of 5 it gives better room to counterplay.

I’m very impressed by the way people adapt and don’t lose morale.

On another note, I think the finals peaked at just under 2k view when I was watching. For a game that has sold over 3 million and is considered one of the most popular current mmo’s, this is quite frankly sad. I was hoping something along the lines of 10,000 views and 5,000 minimum would be nice.

when you dont attract casuals you dont have viewers

when arenanet dont start to bring more casuals in spvp and stop this esport only mentality it will never have more viewers than some diablo3 channels^^

You think there was any hope of GW2 attracting the most viewers in the final? Final that happened while The International 3 is running? The tourney with THE biggest prize pool in the esport history? You cannot beat a $2800000 prize pool

Not much marketing was done, but be sure that almost everyone half-interested in gw2 esports knew this tournament was going on.
The thing here is the tournament, the prices, the hotel, the place, etc. is paid by Arena.net. I’m still amazed of how the pvp developers managed to fool their boss to do this thing. And it’s not only today, the last european finals had 3k.
We want Arena.net to also provide marketing, well sure, but fooling the boss for that will be hard as hell.

PVP developers, dudes, here is a hard truth, there is no short way to be an esport (atleast one that manages to get more than 4k people in a stream), either you fix the game and make it more enjoyable for the rest of gw2 playerbase (and most likely this includes toning down a lot the damage, the fast pace and the aoe-condi-spam) and manage to get a HUGE playerbase or the game will remain as a death-niche for competitive weirdos dreaming with the almost coming esport.
I know, that means redesign most of gw2 spvp, and only god knows how much money and time will cost, but throwing the investors money to the competitive weirdos won’t solve anything.
Right know the roof of spvp is supported by a thin pillar, getting more and more unstable every day.

I left the stream after 2-0 for AL. What a surprise that SYNC won the best of 5 in the end!

sadly i fell asleep during the break after 2-1 for AL – was almost 3a.m.. i will rewatch it today though – really looking forward to some good matches.

i dont know if the marketing needed was done, i was really surprised about the few viewers. in eu-finals there were almost 4k.
i think thats sad for the NA scene – i really feel sorry for you.

Next time we might as well remove the players and let the AI spirits do the job.

So 3 classes( elementalist,warrior,mesmers) are not gonna be seen at pax at all.At the same time people at pax will get to experience from 3 different views the magnificent and engaging gameplay of spiritranger,the spectacualr 1200 range aoes of necro,the amazing and diverse play of s/d thief etc

Keep in mind other huge games were having events this weekend. Dota 2 TI3 for example. Good chance viewers were getting stolen :p

I would have watched them but no one announced it in la or where ever I was. Anet should pop us an in game message when there tourney’s are starting. I am sure most people would check it out.

I keep hearing this stuff about dota 2 or whatever has 10k viewers everygame or something because they have unlimited viewers in a game. I wouldn’t be surprised if people didn’t watch because they couldn’t follow there favorite players.

If GW2 likes shoutcasters than you should have a feature where theres unlimited players that can spectate and you can allow certain people to shoutcast and people that are spectating the game as well can listen in or have an option to turn it off if they don’t want to listen to them. If you going to bring up the issue of people can tell the teams playing that the other team left henge or whatever open… people see that while watching streams too so theres cheating either way if theres cheating at all.

However 1 thing I gotta say is what now? The next big tournament is a year from now, what you going to do to keep those who didn’t make it to pax to keep playing? Popular games are coming out to steal your playerbase what you going to do to keep them from going away? I see Cruuk always yapping about these in game tournaments you promised, but I don’t see any of them. I kinda want to tell cruuk to play wvw because anvil rock is last place in wvw and he should go bring them out of the hole because he a wvw commander but he got a point, when are these tournaments going to happen?

Its not necessarily counter play its basically that the more games you play the more chances there are for the cream to rise to the top. You rarely see upsets in professional sports in 5 and 7 game series that are the norm in a lot of pro sports. The longer series are because even the best teams can have a few bad games you don’t want the best out because they lose a couple of games.

The thing is if the game was funny enough and engaging, esport wouldn’t be an issue. You would play because you enjoy playing it (for example, i love the etrian odissey saga, and i don’t think anyone is crazy enough to make a tournament of etrian odissey).
But with gw2 spvp, we need this ezport thing, people (till now only arena.net and ezport believers) throwing money and time to the best teams for almost nothing (2k viewers watching one advertise doesn’t pay a lot).

If u want to continue with this, i suggest for all the comunity to start donate money like crazy so we can have more tournaments (i will keep my money because i’m evil, but you should donate, a lot).

And I’ve yet to see a longbow/gs glass ranger in tournaments, ever. Or a staff ele in a long while. Or a power glass necro. Or a rifle burst engineer. Or a dd leaping death blossom thief.

Or a burst guardian for that matter.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything besides wolf/drake/jaguar/raven used in any tpvp match. Not spider, not moa, not pig, no devourer.

Yet we still have people pigeonholing classes into one strong build as if they’re fine because they have one strong build.

I didn’t roll a ranger so I could spend all my time never using bows, let alone the greatsword. And I sure as hell didn’t make a ranger to play a condi bunker spec because the other specs are garbage.

But don’t let that stop the whiners from wanting to see any minion class removed from the game.
