Penalize The Afkers
Counter Strike: Global Offensive has a feature whereas players leaving a competitive 5 on 5 match will get a temporary access restriction to the game mode; 30 minutes for first leave, 2 hours on second, and 24 hours on third. Why not implement something similar to players going AFK for more than 30-45 seconds? After all, sPvP is about dedicated competitiveness, right?
You don’t see wvw afkers getting penalized. What they are doing is hurting their whole server, in pvp its just four other guys.
Plus if anet penalize afkers in pvp, there will be no one to play with. We already have to wait around seven minutes per match, penalizing afkers would increase that time. Solution, give pvpers something worth while to do while queing so they don’t afk.

Dota 2 has something similar

Almost every pvp game has something similar.

I’d prefer waiting a bit longer to get a guaranteed satisfying game anytime.
Dota 2 has something similar
Yeah I remember that now. That’s great!
those other 2 games (1 fps, 1 moba) has waaaaaaay more players than gw2 spvp.
1st priority: gw2 spvp need more players.
1st priority: gw2 spvp need more players.
People try out GW2 pvp for the first time → get thrown in an 8v8 zergfest → run like hell and never look back.
Thats what happened with my contacts at least.

the same will happen to them if they enter solo arena or team arena.
8 vs 8 is not a zerg fest by the way.
WvW is zerg fest.

Nope it whont.
And yes it is in an unorganized group.

they will not experience 8 vs 8, but 4 vs 5. long wait time for queues. etc.
sometimes, bad attitude from team members, opposing team, etc.

greatly.
in 8 vs 8 hot join.
players come and leave.
people enjoy casual sPvP in hotjoin 8 vs 8.
something that solo arena 4 vs 5 can never achieve.
to have fun.

Youre not making any sense at all. When i join 8v8 in hotjoin i see a frustrating mess, lots of wow like trolling, flames in chat, etc.
Having 8v8 as the starting point for new pvpers in this game is the worst thing that could happen. The only guys who enjoy it are the same guys who enjoy crabtoss etc (lol @ your sig). Guys who pvp once every 2-3 months.
The last 8v8 i did i saw 3 guys standing afk in the starting area. When i asked them what they where doing two of them replied “i am only here for my daily”.

There needs to be a 12 vs 12 or 16 vs 16 or more with new maps to accommodate. It would be more fun than wvw zergs that just auto attack but just enough players to feel like a epic battle. WvW players will come and population balance will be restored.
“Youre not making any sense at all. When i join 8v8 in hotjoin i see a frustrating mess, lots of wow like trolling, flames in chat, etc.”
i could say the same for you. i do not see much trolling, flames in chat etc when i play in 8 vs 8 hot join.
“Having 8v8 as the starting point for new pvpers in this game is the worst thing that could happen.”
well, the pvp menu panel need better labels.
for example,
5 vs 5 (arena)
8 vs 8 (casual)
“The only guys who enjoy it are the same guys who enjoy crabtoss etc (lol @ your sig). Guys who pvp once every 2-3 months.”
i would say people who enjoys casual PvP will enjoy 8 v 8 hotjoin. the fact remains that the amount of casual players will always be larger than competitive players.
for myself, i’m a casual sPvP player who only plays sPvP for the sPvP dailies. that means 3 rounds per day until sPvP monthly is completed. then wait for the next month.
“The last 8v8 i did i saw 3 guys standing afk in the starting area. When i asked them what they where doing two of them replied “i am only here for my daily”.”
did you screen shot it? other wise it only be only your word and without any solid evidence.
i did not come across such situation before. right after i respawned i would immediately charge back into battle.
i would say people who enjoys casual PvP will enjoy 8 v 8 hotjoin
I enjoy casual pvp. but i hate 8v8 with a passion.

^ See what i did there?

i would say that is just you and a few vocal minority who voices out on the forum.
the rest who are enjoying are playing in the 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers.
“Did you record it? other wise it only be only your word and without any solid evidence.”
i speak for myself, not others.
you claimed that you saw others told you they were waiting for their dailies.
your turn.

Its actually the other way around. You are part of the vocal minority that keeps promoting 8v8 as the epitome of casual pvp. The poll that was made showed that you are in fact incorrect. A clear majority wants 5v5 as main go to format for hotjoin pvp.
You mean all 50ish of them? Since that was the number of players playing hotjoin at 22.00 last night in eu. Pretty much all games in my “gaming librabry” atm have pvp that is more popular than GW2s atm. That includes games that are 10-15 years old and games you probably never heard off.
8 v 8 is like a minigame or skyhammer in general. Great for shortterm fun (if youre in to that) but its a bad point of entry if you want to create a healthy pvp community.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
that poll had more votes for 5 vs 5 because the people who are not happy with 5 vs 5 arena game mode spend most of their time in the forums voicing out their feedback.
just because you saw 50+ players in the EU hotjoin servers game browser does not mean there are only 50 unique players only.
most casual sPvP players, or simple achievement hunters, would just play 3 games per day and then call it a day for sPvP.
there are more than you think, certainly not 50+ alone.
well, regarding healthy pvp community, i think there should be better labels, distinctively differentiating describing competitive and casual play apart.
just like what counter strike: global offensive does. that game labels “classic casual” and “classic competitive” very well.
hmmm you forgot raid on the capricorn. that must be a true hotjoin map since it is not in both solo and team arena rotations. i had many fun encounters on the ship. and the cannon mostly. got some not so fun encounters before also. i.e. someone hogs the cannon for himself, has a friend to look after him, i alone cannot do anything to them.
“8 v 8 is like a minigame or skyhammer in general.”
hmmm. well, people have fun in mini games, so i can agree with that.
“bad point of entry if you want to create a healthy pvp community.”
if the main objective is to “mold” new people to be better in arena modes 5 vs 5 solo arena and team arena then yes, i suppose it would be a bad point of entry.
i.e. players who are very used to playing in 8 vs 8 will have a hard time adjusting themselves in 5 vs 5.
but, please. stop blaming 8 vs 8 alone for the “bad” players in 5 vs 5.
we have no real solid evidence to proof that claim.
well, i think anet can pull that data out if they want to, or if they can.
they only need to look at a player with a low MMR, then check that player’s playing history. i.e. how many 8 vs 8 hotjoin games played before playing 5 vs 5 team arena or solo arena etc.
then check other low MMR player’s playing history.
if they do that, and the numbers indeed tally, then, i will accept.
but until that happens, we have no solid evidence.
Way to hijack my thread you two.
Way to hijack my thread you two.
oh, i’m sorry about that.
anyway, i think they might be less notice-able away from keyboard players if there are more players playing sPvP.
first, there must introduce nice carrots in order to attract the PvE crowd over.
then, the stats distribution must have more flexibility in them in order to attract the WvW crowd.
once there are more players playing sPvP, then further increase the rewards for 5 vs 5 arena game modes, introduce much better in game tutorials and guides for the very different 5 vs 5 arena game mode (solo and team) since players who are very used to 8 vs 8 may have a hard time adjusting and may be treated very badly by other team members who may be elitism or simply too worn down due to various reasons.
of course, if a bucket has a huge hole in it, no matter how much water you pour it in, the water will leak away very quickly as well.
please fix the huge hole in the bucket.
then we can find creative means to find more water to pour into the bucket.
bucket = sPvP
water = active sPvP players
huge hole:
- balance
- game modes
- etc
where to find more water?
PvE, WvW, lots of players there. need to convert them.
Anyways, regardless of the amount of players on sPvP which is a different off-topic problem, please do add some penalization feature to the AFKers so that they might reconsider joining sPvP in the first place so that we the ones that have ACTUALLY WAITED through the queue don’t get penalized ourselves.
Still gettings AFKers here..
