After just advancing into the emerald division after 20-something long games of getting through Amber division, I lost a game because we had a teammate refuse to play. He stayed at home and did nothing. He did not d/c or leave, but he sometimes left home and died while autoattacking the enemy player taking the point. I wouldn’t be too annoyed at this loss if I didn’t lose a pip.

The game is rewarding players who deliberately toss games by making future games easier. When a player comes in with the intent to lose what are the rest of us supposed to do. His loss becomes all of our losses.

I have this dilemma as a soloq player. The system really rewards teams, an individual being high in the ladder really means next to nothing.

I would love a system where teams could climb a separate ladder and solo players could initially come together and be ranked and climb through individual effort with winning as a team being a consideration.

It is a legit strategy, last tier I am going to tank a lot of games with my team so that my next 5 games will be super easy to sapphire.

I would love system, which has separated SoloQ and TeamQ, however it would love to have ability to keep wining team in SoloQ, so my SoloQ team if is great could fight after few games in TeamQ.

You can beat most Teams when MM works properly, but you can’t when you get 4 randoms with much lower skills that yours and you’re supposed to carry them…

Deliberately throwing games is not something that we are OK with, and we should have something in-place in the near future to discourage this activity. I would look for enforcement against this negative behavior to start sometime early next week and may be retroactive since the start of the season.

I can’t really comment on system changes, as that is outside of my realm, however I do know that it’s actively being worked.

Thanks, something like this would be really nice. It’s very demoralizing when one of your team members decides to throw a match.

As an aside, the games where both sides are trying to win have been pretty intense compared to before the ladder season started. From a solo pvp point of view, I’ve had some really good quality matches, win or loose.

How about making people not losing Pipe at all when lost against a extremely disfavor match-up, like 5 solo q people vs 5 man organized medium~top MMR team?

Also lowering the MMR measure if a person Q up alone, so they’re less likely to be qued up against high MMR organized team?
For example, if that person has a MMR of 100 (I don’t know the number, but that’s assume this is a high number), when he que up in as a group, he will use this 100 value, but when he que up alone, it’d have 100-50 = 50 MMR as value, so he is less likely against high MMR organized team.

This should decreases the incentive of people lowering MMR.
If you just want to punish people instead of fixing your system, people will eventually just leave the PVP all together.

It is going to be literally impossible to enforce this. If people want to tank their MMR, they can play stupid builds or classes they are WHOLLY unfamiliar with and almost guarantee a performance as bad as purposefully tanking.

It is also very easy to purposely rotate terribly, as that is what many players do when they ARE trying. Some people even “guard” an empty home-point thinking they are helping the team.

Sure, this might stop blatantly /dancing off-point or something, but there is no way to tell if someone is purposely playing terribly if they aren’t super-explicit with it.

To enter ranked arena one needs to obtain rank 20 first.
To achieve this new players enter hotjoin and unranked.
Typically hotjoin allows for faster matches and steady rank progession regardless of win/loss ratio.
Hotjoin is the king of evil when it comes to match manipulation.

If you’re going to crack down on players manipulating matches, it needs to come from the ground up. If they were punished right from the start with the dailies rooms etc then at higher levels players wouldn’t consider it.

Even in random arenas in gw1 players could get dishonored. It set the standard from entry level that if you are going to enter a match, then win-lose-draw you need to remain competitive.

Think of it like allowing kids to cheat on tests until age 12, then after that they’re not allowed. It is just better for the game as whole to have systems in place from ground zero upwards.

Its possible to get a pip even from losing which imo encourages you to play at your best. Its happened to me personally when losing against a good team. I also don’t think losing 5 matches in a row to win 5 matches in a row is even logical. Its gotta just dumb gullible kids who would even believe they are buying magical sand from the beach. I wonder if people are even doing this…

The bigger problem is sync dropping, which is why we can’t have a solo only qeue and which ruined random arena in gw1. Nothing anet can do about that.

Just because you can’t understand something doesn’t make it incorrect.

If you start at 0 pips and lose five games you have 0 pips, you then win five games and have 5-8 pips realistically. How do you make sure you can win five games? You make sure you are playing people who are much worse than you. How do you make sure you play people who are much worse than you? You lower your own rating.

People have shown it works. For now.

People secure a division or tier, then they throw the games and tank their mmr. Once they start getting easier games they start playing to secure the next tier, rinse & repeat. Saw it happen with many people whom I’ve fought, know how good they are/can be. Then an hour later saw the same people mindlessly run to the far node losing 1v1 fights over and over for no reason.

I’m sorry but Anet isn’t going to catch this nor will they do anything about it. They can’t afford to ban the already small playerbase they have in PvP. The fact that ruby and above players have to wait hours long before getting a match should tell you just how small the PvP playerbase is where they can’t even put together a 5v5 match. Think about that for a sec. So for devs to say they’re gonna banhammer people who throw games deliberately? LOL I laugh in your general direction. Not to mention a lot of these players are pro league players, without them, Anet wouldn’t have esports.

Your system is getting exploited, I’m sapphire and saw my pips melt away tonight due to diamond level players exploiting the system to get match ups against folks 2 divisions below them. It hasn’t been enjoyable tonight both due to getting impossible match ups and lose pips in the process, but also when we should be winning but watch good players deliberately toss the games.

Fix the system, because people sure aren’t going to stop exploiting it. Empty threats mean nothing, and these players know Anet won’t touch them.

That’s great- shame it’s only addressing a symptom rather than the cause, but it’s something. Will your system protect people who are experiencing horrible streaks, or will they become collateral?

Being horrible, or being on a horrible streak will be protected

Being purposely horrible, or being purposely on a horrible streak will not

How do you plan on distinguishing between those?

My guildie streamed some matches on twitch today – he was winning most 1v1 and holding his own in groups and 1vX as well.

But his win loss ratio is only 21% for the day. With probably 6 hours of pvp.

He also received abuse for not winning fights such as a 1 v 3.
Or dying after downing multiple enemies and his team couldn’t stomp. Being told he made his team lose.

Sounds like he could be wrongly punished here.

How does Anet intend to protect people from things such as false reports?

How are most players meant to know if someone is intentionally running a bad build to throw a match?

And you’ll be able to determine whether someone’s intentionally losing or just new/bad… how?

By reporting someone as ‘botting’, an in game dev will receive the report and be able to respond in actual time, and/or monitor the reported person thereafter. If a dev witnesses any shenanigans themselves…

BANHAMMER

See how many people would actually get reported because of their bad playing lol..

Hope Devs has enough time to monitor like 1000 people at once lol..
