Pet(s)
Because that would make sense.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. This would help reduce the high pet damage that mender’s Druids can do, while still keeping dps focused amulets useful.
Because build diversity
Different pets bring different things to the table regardless of how the ranger is geared and that offers a much better diversity to ranger builds. That being said, it is sad to see smokescale and bristleback being so overused.
Why smokescale/bristleback?
The reason rangers use smokescale and bristleback isn’t because of their raw damage. They actually have the same-ish damage as non-HoT pets. The reason they are picked is because of their ability to hit their targets reliably. Due to this, many players are able to do very high pet damage by stacking might and fury through “we heal as one” and knowing that the pet will indeed land the hit.
What needs to be fixed?
- Nerf the might and fury stacking ability of “we heal as one” in PvP
- Fix the other pets’ ability to land their hits reliably
- Shave off some survivability off of bristleback and smokescale
Kiwi I hate to say I disagree, build diversity would mean making other pets a more viable option, obviously bristle and smoke scale are great because they hit their target more often that goes without saying BUT I’m not sure if their damage belongs in a support/bunker/tank whatever u want to call it style of build. Therefor if their stats scaled from the player then yes they would deal lower damage but rightfully so as the player is not speced to do damage, however healing style pets would see more play because of this as they would be more viable then they are now with stats scaling from players.
I mean really and I’m going to say nomads just because its the most obnoxious comparison (I know tis not in pvp etc.), but a nomads rangers pet you argue should do the same damage as a zerker’s? is that fair to the zerker? I’d say not. thoughts?

Like I said, the “high pet damage” isn’t actually from the base stats of the smokescale or bristleback, the culprit is the “we heal as one” skill. Base smokescale burst is only ~3.5k most of the time, the feline and bird pets easily hit as much if their attacks landed properly.
Once “we heal as one” is nerfed, a bunker/support druid would never be able to kill in a 1v1 situation with a pet that only bursted 3.5k every 15-20s or so, thus solving the “bunker shouldn’t be able to burst so much” problem.
Diversity comes from being able to mix different pets for their utility and stats that are independent from gear stats.
The bottom line is that I think nerfing rangers ability to stack might on pets is a much better option than scaling pet stats through gear.
If they cared about build diversity then why are all classes shoe horned into 1 maybe two specs? They would actually have ranger/Druid be balanced if they made pets attributes be derived from the players attributes, the diversity would come from each pets utility not their stats because right now rangers don’t lose very much going bunker yet can do high burst with their pets and the Druid/ranger isn’t a complete potato.

Like I said before, the high burst would be resolved if WHaO was nerfed.
Again if they just made all pets stats derived from the Rangers then it would also be balanced.
I thought the pet damage is already nerfed compared to season 1? Bristleback does not feel nearly as useful as in season 1 where it could one shot some people

This is correct.
Although certain pets can deal relatively high damage, none of them will be doing enough to be a major threat without enough Might stacks. “Strength Of The Pack!” + “We Heal As One!” is a very easy way to stack 25 Might on you and your pet and can cause certain pet attacks to deal massive damage.
I know that a lot of players hate pets but fact is fact; nearly all of the Ranger pets do pitiful damage unless Signet/Might buffed. Smokescale and Bristleback have been nerfed repeatedly and pets are the Rangers unique mechanic. Either Ranger’s are going to need to start having their own damage buffed or pets are going to need to stop being nerfed. Ranger does very little damage even in full zerk gear because a large percentage of their damage comes from the pet, remember.
While I do agree that it can be ridiculous that they can deal high damage while the Ranger themselves remain bunker, I don’t think the solution is to make pets scale with the Rangers stats nor do I think the solution is to nerf pet damage (which is what most people prefer to suggest). WHaO and SotP may need to be addressed and adjusted some how but pets have been nerfed more than enough and only recently received buffs instead of nerfs, nearly all to pets that are rarely used anyway like Moas and Porcines.
