Platinum players farming unranked?
It does use a completely separate system and their Division means absolutely nothing in Unranked.
Why does it matter if players are winning in Unranked in the first place? It’s not like there is any detriment since Unranked losses mean absolutely nothing.
And it doesn’t change the accessibility of Pvp to newer players since they can all access it and they can learn to better them selves in a semi competitive environment ( any gamemode that pits players against each other is competitive, since competing for a win is competition..)
And let’s not forget some people like to take a break from playing ranked.
Hang on — Your complaint is that there are skilled players in Unranked?
Oh, I get it. You wanted to farm Unranked, but you got farmed instead.

My complaint is there is no reasoning between the matchups (and more often enough, platinum players show up). Do you think it’s fair for a copper rank to consistently play against platinum? If you do, that’s messed up.
The solutions are to team up with good players or to get better.
If you can’t do those things try to ask if you can join them.
In PvP only one team win, if the “plat team” is better they deserve to win.
There’s not a real matchmaking in unranked.
Yes, a copper that fight another copper is more balanced and be farmed by skilled players is really frustrating.
But it’s Unranked… no one cares about unranked…
maybe they’re good players that want to play with friends and the only place they can do that is in unranked.
If you want to play against players of your level play ranked, there’s a better MM.

Don’t get me wrong, I want to get out of unranked badly. Unfortunately anet only made certain map achievements possible in unranked. So I guess I’m a vocal minority in this situation. Losing 12 in a row kinda burns into you bad about this game mode.
In which I’ll probably never que Unranked again afterwards.

If we were talking about Ranked, I would agree. But unranked? I would say that is the perfect place for this to happen. It provides a place where, if ranked matchmaking weren’t garbage at times, copper could easily measure the skill difference against platinum and maybe learn some things.
Unranked really doesn’t matter. You’re playing for reward tracks(70% pointless) and…… some achievements. Ooooh high end esports.

i have the solution: go in pve to farm achievement
I’m the person that told him ranked players use unranked for warm up. There are numerous reasons for unranked play though:
- Get your duo partner, run a couple unranked matches to warm up first. Sometimes when you first wake up or just get out of work, your head isn’t in the game yet.
- Run unranked with people that you wouldn’t run ranked with. Like new friends who only play at silver level or something. Unranked is where you teach them.
- Sometimes players just want to random around with weird builds in unranked.
- Sometimes a player who is plat on say a Druid, could be very bad on a Mesmer which he has less than 20 games played on. So he runs unranked for practice.
In testimony to the OP’s statement though, I had him in what, two or three games earlier? Either way, his matches were terrible. The game stacked my plat duo with other higher rated players and the OP’s team had like…. silvers and golds at best. There is no reason for the match making to be that lopsided. You all can sit here and tell him he needs to get good but that’s beside the point. The point is that there is supposed to be a match making algorithm that works, regardless of one’s person skill, they should be getting relatively balanced matches and not one fat losing blowout after another in a chain lose streak. Something is wrong there. Again, I was IN his matches and I’m telling you something was wrong with that match making. We had like plat stacked teams against a bunch of new guys. Didn’t make any sense to me. There is no reason why the algorithm couldn’t have taken 2 of our plat guys and swapped them with a couple of his silvers. Just no reason for that.

From what I remember, matchmaking puts teams together, then finds opponents as similar as possible to that team. I don’t understand matchmaking enough to know why they don’t just find the ten closest players and balance teams from that, but they don’t. This means that fewer players playing unranked will result in much worse matches. That Platinum team has to face somebody. The route of the issue is really just that most players are playing ranked. A lower unranked population means matchmaking in unranked will be worse during a ranked season.
Another contributing factor is that unranked uses a different rating than ranked. A player who doesn’t play unranked much or rarely plays seriously in it could have a much lower rating in unranked than is representative of their skill. That isn’t something Anet needs to fix, it’s just the result of a non competitive queue.

I ran out of Doable PVE achievments
Heck, I’m almost done all the PVP achievments aside from spirit watch, ele, and mesmer wins….

You remember that from solo queue they essentially used to do that with solo players though, and we remember how that would turn out lol. It would be like, you or whoever else you want to name drop being on the same team with somebody who decided it was a good idea to unbind the dodge key and afk run into creature on Forest all game.
Instead of tightening up the range on their team building algorithm, it was essentially changed to what we have now, which is what the algorithm basically was for the seasons of ranked before solo queue only.
I’m not saying you’re wrong about anything, to clarify if that’s needed.
I’m just saying it’s not like it could really be much better (especially with the use of glicko over the use of an algorithm like trueskill, but that’s my own gripe).

Yes I do, that’s how you improve, you get to that level of skill by playing against players of that level of skill
I don’t complain when I’m fighting against legendary players, I look at it as a chance to study and learn from them
Losing is apart of life especially when its by an entity that’s more experienced than yourself…you should know this by now
Why is this a thing? I thought unranked was suppose to have a separate mmr system? (or lack thereof)
One plat said they use unranked to warm up. I’m skeptical, that giving the smack down on plebs is any sort of warm up :|
Even if it were a case of warm up there should be a better way then just steam rolling through players. Making the game even less accessible to the general player base.
Given that 80% of games I’ve experienced are 100/200 – 500 blowouts. (Having being on both sides, but mostly the losing end) This goes beyond warm ups, even at twilight hours.
better to test out new builds in unranked than in ranked right?
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Because it doesn’t matter u half-wit. Unranked is where anyone can play with everyone. it’s not about farming new/low-skill players. Sometimes you want to try new builds before you use it in ranked, sometimes you just want to play with more than just 1 friend because ranked won’t allow it and sometimes you just want to warm up like that plat player told you even if you feel super skeptical about it. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter and it shouldn’t matter. Unranked is for a fun and casual pvp experience. That still means you will play against really good players and really bad players regardless. If you’re salty you got rolfstomped by a bunch of plat players then you’re just making it hard for yourself.

yeah about this their warm up…this is just lazy saying for them…if they “warm up” on unranked arenase in shortcut "rekt"ing noob players then those begginers, weak players how then can play with more fun while they will get 1 kill once per 10 deaths etc? how about those low level players who want to have more fun by playing in this game but instead of nice game they gets mostly rekt by high lvl players who jsut want to “warm up” destroying fun from low lvl players

Last time that happened, I fought Naru. And I didn’t learn a kitten thing because I couldn’t even put a scratch on him… And all he did was just stand on point and counter every move, didn’t even bother to attack me…
Obviously he’s on a level beyond my comprehension.

If you look at the wiki, Unranked uses MMR and a similar matchmaker to ranked. The ratings are separate though and not published. Most people use unranked to warm up before they do ranked or test builds. If said player was doing a lot of build testing they could have tanked their rating. So when they enter on their main they would actually be a lot better than their unranked MMR shows.
I would avoid unranked around the start times for ATs. Also, avoid making 5 man teams. They try to balance premades by making them play against better players if they can’t find a similar team.
In the instance where he had gone against our plat duo, I had recently been running thief in unranked. I am the worst thief in NA, it was always one of the classes that I sort of ignored for years. Naturally, I went on a lose streak for about 8 -10 games in a row while trying to relearn thief and I’m sure that had lowered my unranked MMR quite a bit.
When our plat duo joined unranked for “practice” that day, we were running our mains and not trying to learn alts. So it’s a situation where our unranked MMR at the time was reflective of kittening around and running either custom builds for fun or when we are trying to learn classes we aren’t so good at. Then we log into our mains and the unranked is essentially placing us as if we were silver/gold players in unranked when in reality we are capable of playing at mid plat on mains. That’s really all that happened there.
I play unranked sometimes to get familiar with new build rotations. The current ranked system doesn’t allow you to kitten around in ranked like the old pip system where you wouldn’t lose pips when at certain point.
I mean, sure people in unranked suck but they’re better than target golems.
Reminded me how I should really go there and test some necro/rev/war again. Plat inc, hide.
