Post HoT launch, this game will have 3x sPvP game modes: Conquest, Team Death Match (TDM) and Stronghold.

Using some loose generalization, I’ve split the player base into the following groupings (once Stronghold is in the game):

1. Player A - Only wants to play Conquest
2. Player B - Only TDM
3. Player C - Only Stronghold
4. Player D - Some Conquest, Some TDM
5. Player E - Some Conquest, Some Stronghold
6. Player F - Some TDM, Some Stronghold
7. Player G - All three game modes

That’s probably where you’d stop. These are general categories: you might have someone in conquest who on rare occasions dabbles in Stronghold, someone who plays all 3 might cheat toward TDM or Conquest while another person in the Player G group might do two Stronghold maps for every TDM and Conquest map. The point is, it doesn’t matter…

What matters is that: Apparently, all 7 of those player types are in the vast minority and most of us fall into this group:

Player H - Doesn’t Care

After all, why would you assume that a disparate group of players with different opinions and preferences would actually want to have a choice in what type of game mode they play?

Take me for example, anytime I’m given a choice between fixed alternatives, I do what all of us do, I pull out some dice and let lady luck have a go… I wanted a Hamburger, but the dice say Tofu… oh well.

It’s not like there have been many posts and threads asking for a separate queue for 2v2 TDM or the removal of terrible approximations of conquest maps like Skyhammer.

If, as a company, you’re presupposing that your sPvP player population is static, then why even bother with a new game type?

If, as a company, you don’t have the infrastructure to support a separate queue for Stronghold, then frankly, you aren’t ready to release it.

I cannot fathom a legitimate reason for dumping Stronghold into the conquest queue… then again, I couldn’t for Courtyard (TDM), and you did that… my expectations are pretty low at this point.

This. Anet, please change this. These are all really good points. Give us options. Don’t leave it up to chance. We want to play Stronghold. Back in GW1, if we wanted to play Fort Aspenwood, we didn’t have to hope we would get in to FA while queuing up for Random Arena.

Fancybottom is best bottom.

I cannot fathom a legitimate reason for dumping Stronghold into the conquest queue… then again, I couldn’t for Courtyard (TDM), and you did that… my expectations are pretty low at this point.

Most likely it’s a concern over one of the two queues becoming a wasteland. Throw it together and everyone is miserable – but at least they’re not standing around in Heart of the Mists!

mayhap’s a random, pick and choose scenario?
Simply like the custom arena option where you get to veto those maps you don’t like
I’m looking at you skyhammer >:(
I really like that idea tbh, it’d be like a custom queue, where everyone is sorta pooled together keeping the voting system on top of that would be interesting (I would prefer to test the idea first to see if its even viable)

I don’t see a valid reason whatsoever for the modes being merged. There isn’t an upside for doing it this way. That’s why other games let you pick the mode you want to play.

ArenaNet: I would love if you could show us valid reasons why players should be excited to have to play a random mode instead of the mode they would choose to play were there separate queues. What am I missing here when I think that this has no upside whatsoever for players?
