Please Explain The Ratings
IICR, it’s simply a win/loss ratio. Rank is time invested, not skill, so it shouldn’t have anything to do with MMR.
Well if it is simply win loss rating , how comes top guild teams both games ?
Here’s the way it works, the way I understand it. The numbers aren’t accurate, but it’s the idea.
Lets say you have 1000 rating and you queue up. If there are any teams that are queued within 50 rating of yours (I made this number up, but it’s the idea that’s important), so between 950-1050, you get an instant queue and you both go into a match. If there aren’t any teams within this range, then you wait.
After 1 minute of waiting (again, this is a made up number, but it’s the idea that’s important) the range expands to 100, so if there are any teams that are within 900-1100 rating, you will get into a match with them. If not you keep waiting.
This cycle goes on until it finds a team to be matched against. Ratings aren’t based off of rank, so if a higher rank team has to wait long enough they can be queued against a low rated team. Your team might not have waited very long, but the high rated team might have been. My team, for example, would wait at least 5 minutes for almost every queue.
It’s not perfect, but it’s not fair to have a high rated team never get a queue pop. They have to go against someone.
But now they’re hating cause a brotha finally got some buzz

@ follidus now you mention it we did wait quite a while for a match , so maybe youre theory of matchmaking is correct , i guess there was only top teams playing or we was unlucky odd number queued etc…
The longer you wait for a pop, the more likely it is you will end up in a match vs a team with a large gap in rank compared to you.
Of course if during your wait period another team , closely ranked ques, that can cause a instant pop. So it is possible to wait a long time and to get an evenly matched bout.
But in general, if ur waiting several minutes for a pop, expect a poor match up.
It is mostly a population issue, and chances are you are getting paired with the only teams playing at the time.
My team played against Phantaram once, among some other big names, and we were like, wat? There’s no way we are the same rating as some of the people we’ve been paired against.
As the population grows, the MMR will start to pair us up more reliably.

This.
Question: does Paid matches start up simultaneously? like, does it wait for a certain number of teams formed (obviously an even number) or a specific countdown before matching then pops up. Or does it pop up as soon as there are at least 2 teams formed? XD
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
When I play with low ranks I only face low ranks. When I group with R50+ I only face high rank teams even in free tournaments. So THERE IS a matchmaking system.
But it is not always possible to do the best matching at à precise time

I think it is an instant matchup. We have been in ts3 with two teams that que up within 10 seconds of each other and instantly matched against each other.

So is it safe to assume that this is somehow a flaw in the matchmaking system since the probability of being matched against the same team is rather high because you will almost always queue in together?
A better approach would be a certain timer or something before the next round of matches simultaneously start up, thus allowing a larger pool of teams to match up with each other. I’m not really good at this but I hope you get my point. :P

Oh you have no idea. I have been in times where we have faced the same team 4 times in a row.

This is something we are working on improving.

I agree. 1v1 queues always have this sort of problem, unless you’re a mega-popular game, which GW2 PvP currently is not.
It’s better to have a 1v1 tournaments starting every X mins or something.
This allows a number of teams to queue up at the same time, which gives the matchmaking a larger number of teams to work with.
The X can be variable depending on how popular PvP is on a given week. If it’s popular, it can be shorter. If it’s unpopular, longer.
Today I was in a group with 3 rank 20ish, 1 rank 30ish, and 1 high 40.
We played 4 paid tournies and all of them had teams with no lower than mid 40. One team even had one guy that was almost rank 60. Three of the four times the queue popped instantly. Once we waited about 2 minutes. Seemed to not effect the rating match-up at all.
Do the ratings pick the highest of your team to match you or what? Because it definitely doesn’t average out the whole party.
