The Proper title for PVP in this game should read, Player Versus Player in a Match of Conquest.

Simply calling it Player vs Player gives the notion that matches are about players fighting other players, promoting builds around survival or killing. When in reality it is Player VS Player in a game of conquest, where killing your opponent are secondary objectives to holding and capturing nodes and other map based benefits.

This game is player vs point. Skill is minimal because the way to win is to run to a point and bunker it. It is really lame and pathetic. Main reason this game is dead.

You could say spvp stands for kitten pvp I guess :P

I don’t like calling any one out but surely WvW is PvX as you face Non Ai’s (players) and Ai controlled plus you gather materials ie wood etc do jumping puzzles vistas…..

Specifically referring to SPVP, since there is only format, Conquest, you should inform players they are participating in a game of conquest against other players, not a game of just player versus player.

Players need to understand they are playing conquest first, and fighting other players second.

spvp is PvX seen as all games have more ai minions than actual players

it’d be like 2 people playing chess and calling it pvp and the players only worry about killing enemy pieces.

Chess is pvp, but because it’s called chess the format of competition is explicitly clear.

I am not trolling. I am earnestly trying to think of ways to encourage players to understand that winning a match is not solely about killing enemy players, even if you take a more offensive role.

I do not think that I am alone in noticing that most players do not understand the fundamentals of a conquest match. And that most losses are caused by players engaging in play that is counter-productive to a conquest match. Like fighting off point, or capturing a point and then immediately leaving it. Or charging headfirst into a fight where they will be outnumbered.

“Structured” pvp….maybe if you are in a team queue playing with a full team. Yolo QQ is nothing more than a glorified hotjoin. Call it RANKED queue and maybe, just maybe, people will get it.

I don’t find the title misleading. I’ve played numerous MMOs and every one of them has featured objective based play in their player versus player format. “PvP” isn’t synonymous with “deathmatch” in the MMO industry.
