Are you serious? I don’t even do Tpvp and I knew about the tournaments. It has a bloody message on the main page of the forums when it happens.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.
Because ToG/ToL is open enrollment, the qualifier games tend to result in one-sided blowouts, especially in the early rounds – not exactly the best viewing experience. A lot of what you described above is already done for the finals that happen next weekend.
Good luck in the finals, Eura.

That’s great news, and long overdue! Good job, Grouch!
Hopefully as the number of good teams grows we’ll start seeing fewer one-sided matches in the qualifiers as well,so you’ll be able to advertise those as well.
Here’s also a snippet from the latest WTS blog we released:
On October 11-12, and then again on October 25-26, we will be granting all players 10% increased PvP rank point gain, +15% reward track progress, and an extra 100% magic find while inside PvP maps. (And yes, magic find works on PvP reward boxes.) Check out the Maguuma Wastes Reward Track to work towards the geodes and ambrite fossils needed for the Ambrite weapons, or just snag a few Zephyrite Keys for your adventures in Dry Top. If that isn’t your cup of tea, you can always work towards the PvP-exclusive Glorious Armor, available only in the Glorious Reward Track.
This will pair with our first jump into in-game messaging.
While I feel your taking good steps to achieve this Grouch, Overall, the lack of advertisement on several platforms to build a viewer-base for tournaments with the plethora of outlets, platforms, and means available to Anet is astonishing, and quite frankly, inexcusable. I could understand if it was a third party like someone like blu trying to get the word out and not having piles of tools and platforms and even a captive audience to advertise to.
But we’re talking the developers of the game, and This wouldn’t be the first time, I have to agree with Eura here, I’ve had to scavange through threads, or even go to the website with brackets to find postings for where to find the stream for the pvp event.
Why are the leaderboards hidden under a tabbed link on the front page that any normal person, visiting the site, player, or otherwise, would be completely unaware of unless otherwise directed to, or out of just by accident.
Why do I not see a huge blowout advertisement on the front page of guildwars2.com any time a pvp event is going on with an art banner to draw attention.
Why did I have to hear “Scarlets minions are attacking!” 100000x times, but have yet to see a single in game shout out to a tournament (or see advertisements in the black lion trading post) Or really anything to utilize the tens of thousands of players constantly logged into the game every day to watch your tournaments.
Why are we not sending out more press releases to places like kokatu, ign and mmorpg.com (I do remember seeing some mmorpg postings a while back for tournaments, but it’s been a while).
We constantly are told “The forums only represent a small fraction of the playerbase” and then for events the dev’s hand us a small forum announcement that goes away after you switch pages once.
I feel like most of this is common sense, and should be standard, and because of that, I can understand Eura’s frustration.
It feels like a lot of poor excuses, a lack of focus care, or direction from upper management in the company and an exceptionally asinine waste of available resources.
Please don’t take this the wrong way Grouch, this isn’t aimed at you, I know you work hard and are doing everything you can to put things in the right direction, this is more of an overarching theme from before you even began working for Anet, and while your improving the situation, it feels like Anet owns a flower shop named “Best Flowers in town!” and they truly do have the best flowers in town, but with no signage on the building and the front door is locked and requires a password that only a few people know, but sells books out of the back of an unmarked grey van behind the shop for half price, and then follows up with “Why does no one buy our flowers?”
And yeah, I had no idea there was a tourny today either, I only found out from reading Eura’s ragepost.

hmm I just feel like it I didnt log into the forums I would never know tournament where coming up. Maybe an in game message would also help a bit.

Awesome that you guys have made this possible, and hopefully it can be done for esl weekly cups as well.

Blowouts because only 5 good teams each region josh , im sorry but fix yo game brah …
i believe that if you put in game messages towards EVERYBODY in every chat/location/server, you will have maby thousands of more viewers. biggest population of the game is outside the spvp so this might be interesting to get them in contact with spvp.
I agree with in-game messages needing to be utilized. Forums are rarely visited by a lot of people and I know I’m guilty of skipping through the log in messages.
We have no information about this tournament on the french forum. Not even the message on the main page of the forum.
European tournament ? Nope. English only. Again.
nono, not english only, german too.

Totally this.
I would not mind in game messages at all! They’d be nice reminders of where I can see some action. I imagine the farmers in ice place would like something to watch while killing monsters. Hmm…I don’t think I’d even be bothered by emails, either! I get emails from Twitch and World of Tanks about tournaments all the time. Some people play a lot of other games so an email about a big event like the ToG qualifiers would be great!
I agree with Eura and Steb here. There advertisement or big events its quite bad. There needs to be a rehaul of the website or how things are advertised.
“Best Guardian NA”
Has Anet looked into starting a PvP newsletter type system where you simply check or uncheck an accessible box of options that allows in game mail (or even on screen messages) about upcoming tourneys including who, what, where yada yada?
I am not one to read a lot of threads for the simple purpose of keeping myself positive through the sea of negativity, so I could have missed this concept if brought up previously.
Also, why does it take so long to update results? Wasn’t there an EU qualifier this past weekend? The ToG page isn’t even updated.
It is really hard to care about these types of events when:
1. The pre tournament communications are poor
2. Post tournament results are updated really late
If you look at League of Legends, this is how they advertise:
- Tweets days and DAYS ahead of time scheduled matches. Hours before scheduled matches. Minutes before matches.
- Open up my League of Legends overview page. The ENTIRE page is FILLED with the 2014 Worlds information. Hell, literally 75% of the page is a giant blob about the Worlds.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
We simply need a yellow message like a new patch and an option to disable it if people is not interested to pvp.
Is the finals bracket posted anywhere?
Also, how about the results for EU Q3/Q4??
This is ridiculous…
Mistpedia isn’t updated…
DPS also doesn’t have ANYTHING on their website for ToG…
Hate having to always search for this stuff, its not easily accessibly and when I do find something its not even updated!!

All of our brackets can be found at either our challonge page or our Battlefy Page (were in the process of migrating to Challonge for it’s ease of use).
ToG EU Finals brackets are not yet prepped, as my admin is still in the process of doing the seeding to ensure it’s done correctly.
In regards to Mistpedia not being updated I have not had the time to do it yet. I am currently the only person who actively edits tournament articles on Mistpedia, not just for MP events, but for ESL and other tournaments as well, and this is not how the website should work. There is nothing stopping people from creating accounts and editing it themselves if they have the information and knowhow to edit WikiMedia articles. Granted, I am not saying other people should be doing it, as it is a Mistpedia-run event, but rather other people can do it, and that is how a Wikipedia should work, with multiple users working together to contribute to a knowledge base. Mistpedia makes no money from running tournaments, and we do not monetize the website, so unfortunately this means we are at the mercy of volunteer’s availability, and I cannot fault people for not being available, especially when they’re not being given anything for their work.
We’re actually working on a completely separate subdomain that functions more as a news website to hopefully provide a consistent source for the information you guys are looking for, but we are having some trouble getting the funding and technical know-how on board to get that project completed.
