Air runes and air sigils do not share an ICD – they can both proc simultaneously for some pretty lol RNG damage that doesn’t belong in any game claiming to be competitive.

It’s like vial of shadows 2.0 – and we know how that turned out.

Everyone knows that air runes in their current state are broken, I doubt that anyone is going to deny this; but fact is prince you got outplayed in that fight, there was no indication that air runes were even the reason you lost that fight, you played badly and you were punished for it, so I don’t understand why your arguing otherwise.

I also don’t think that payne tried to justify that air runes are balanced, he just tried to explain the fact that you don’t even do a good job of showing that air runes are what lost you that fight; and the fact that your upset at the rng factor of the air runes and sigils is also a moot point, mmo’s and moba’s alike have always the rng factor incorporated into them, crits and weapon procs have always and will always be around.

I just don’t understand what it is you wish to achieve, by going after payne when all he did was simply clarify what happened in the video and it also baffles me that people still don’t understand that sigil procs and rune procs are part of the gameplay and I doubt they will be removed, there will always be a level of rng that players should be ready to deal with, you can come on the forums and whine about it whenever you feel like you were unlucky, but I doubt that will help the case.

Regarding your argument about thieves, I have found that good elementalist (this isn’t a poke at prince in anyway, because the video provided doesn’t really give a good indication of skill level.) have an easy time dealing with thieves if they understand how to avoid the initial burst, and that thieves in general aren’t as bad as people make them out to be, and we personally haven’t really ran a thief in our main comp and we are still doing very well. Albeit they do need a nerf towards DD and BS to bring them a bit more in line damage wise.

P.S I am no way saying that air runes don’t need to be nerfed, I fully and 100% agree that they should.

This wasn’t a thief vs ele thread it was about a bug (culling issue) and the insane rng burst of those runes. All of the other talk in this thread is white noise.

Ability to play actually almost always effects threads and posts created on these forums, also lack of knowledge in the game effects those posts; people will always complain about rng, thats not a big surprise to me and they will continue to do so.

Oh and before you claim that I am unable to read or spout a kitten condescending comment, back track and read the rest of the thread. I doubt anyone doesn’t know how broken air runes are at the moment, but its also now very normal to assume that most thieves / damage dealing classes are running them; do we need another forum post about rng, na I don’t think so, especially not one as badly illustrated as this one.

Nor was it even making a claim of proof of anything – it was simply, here’s a video of what happened, which was half the fight where I couldn’t hit him while he attacked me from stealth, and when I finally attacked nearly half of my life was blown up with a RNG proc.

It wasn’t until payne jumped in that the thread digressed to nonsense land. You’ll notice I never called him out – he called me out for bad play which was beside the point and even so I admitted freely I could have played better. That aside, I have to lol at this becoming anything about 1v1 scenario anyway. On my ele I can either build to reliably destroy thieves 1v1, or I can be useful to my team. And I beat thieves all the time even with my teamfight build anyway so please tell me why this thread is taken as a thief complaint thread?

@jumper – Tons of evasion – I’m talking about the damage you can avoid with disabling shot and stealth, that joined with timing dodges between these features means you have a whole lot of time spent not taking any damage.

And as for the burst, its clearly very well known about the amazing burst potential thieves have. You have some really big hitters and then strong +damage % modifiers with traits and abilities that deal even more damage when the target is lower hp.

Thief risk vs reward just is not in line with other classes.

You do understand the reason he remained invisible in that fight was purely due to the fact that he was blinded for the first attack, you blocked the next attack and evaded the last; and a thief doesn’t destealth until he has either landed a hit or the timer has run out.

Thing is you bring this video forth to shed light on a certain subject that has been discussed 100 times previously, but the video fails in every single way to provide evidence of said issues, thing is we acknowledge the presence of those problems and everyone is already aware of them; so the question is why provide a video that fails to prove anything ?

You cannot spam Disabling shot, espically after you dumped down all your initiative on burst.

Stealth does not make you evade or immune to damage. I killed many thiefs inside stealth. If you know how thiefs play you can easily know where to attack even if they stealth. Best part is you can hit with Eviscerate and not use adrenaline if thief stealthed.

sorry but taking a 6k hit from a sigil or rune (or both) is ridiculous. this issue does need to be addressed. lol and the person defending this amount of dmg is the thief who must see big numbers i suppose. wow. you have got to be kidding me. any hit over 5k shouldnt even be in the game in my opinion. not to mention a RUNE OR SIGIL. those procs can be a game changer and definitely have an impact on any 1v1 when they proc. i have fallen victim to the air strike on back stab hit, (or CnD, who the kitten knows, thieves are invisible for that whole part of their combo) and it is pretty op in comparison to some other sigils, the dmg ratio does need to be looked at. prince is right.

no, that is not right at all. when you hit anything (stealth or not) your adren empties.
if your adren stays at the level it was, then you missed your target.

I dont’ think they have lower burst than warrior or mesmer.

I just think their burst is overkill.

Warriors and Mesmers can take away 100% of your HP. Thieves can take away 150%. Hell I kill most 14.1k HP thieves with just mug + c&d. But there really isn’t a reason to do 150% of someone’s max HP.

Problem is, what do you go into now? The class has no access to protection. Vigor only up for 15/35 seconds if spec’d 20 into trickery. No swiftness unless you dodge roll and even then only for 2 seconds. No regen, unless you stealth with 30 into SA, which works against the capping system in the game. The class defense seems to be based around dodge rolling, but with all the immobilizes in the game it really plays against them.

Makes you wonder what’s next once they nerf backstab by 50% and disallow thieves to burst someone down. All other classes have tank specs and immunities and knockbacks. A thief doesn’t.

This is a known bug and it is needless to spam this screenshot all over the forums.

Thief burst provides higher damage than a warrior’s burst.

In shorter time, I also find that warrior’s burst is very easy to dodge while thief is much trickier. The off set to this is that warriors have higher HP and Armor and usually carry a shield in off hand.

With that said thief short bow is another powerful weapon in my opinion. No class can spam 3-5k aoe constantly. ( I think)

@xeph – you do understand everything you said was in fact covered in the thread already? Even within the first few posts? You’re the same as payne again in this instance, you’re just wanting to marginalize my post by saying it doesn’t prove anything regardless of whether or not I intended to ‘prove’ anything at all.

@jumper – I don’t see the point in arguing with you, I don’t disagree with what you’re saying but your last reply is not what I was talking about. I wasn’t saying you could infinitely avoid damage but in any given fight being able to open a fight with hard hitting short bow spam, dodge + disabling shot evade the big attacks, then more shortbow spam and then stealth when pressured and attack more from stealth while init regens – as a pure glass build, thats pretty strong, not imba, but strong. And yes you can be killed in stealth but in this instance with the build, utilities, and weapon set I was running it was a bad matchup, I didn’t have anything left after phoenix and firegrab. d/d with arcane utilities is a different story which is what I’ve run the most of my tournaments as.

And yes, mesmers and warriors do some insane burst as well but at least with warriors you can stunbreak to get away and they can be focused hard in a group fight. And with mesmers they at least have to have some skill to effectively pull off their burst and still survive. Good mesmers are hard to damage, even in team fights. Their afk clones hitting for 6k is another matter and needs to go immediately.

All are handled differently and I like the diversity that brings to the game but even so I think most would agree certain bust builds are out of line. Maybe they aren’t but word is they’re adjusting some things for next patch so we’ll see what happens.

@ days – I totally agree with you. The burst is insane and the other builds aren’t as desirable, whether that is because bs builds outshine them so much or they need a buff I don’t know enough to comment, but I do believe they will be compensated in the end if the burst gets knocked down. I imagine thief is in a role reversal of ele – our bunker builds are too good and our burst builds are suicide. And our hybrids are generally bunker builds with berserker amulet which makes us somewhat durable with lukewarm damage. If some of the top end burst is lowered from the biggest hitters then glass eles and other classes as well might become a bit more viable. Recently I rolled warrior cause the damage is just so much higher than my hybrid ele and fury is like a free kill(s) every cd.

@jumper, again – please show more pics of broken abilities not working as intended. ps. did you see my screenshot of the 9.3k steal against my ele, is that ‘close’ enough?

Amazing, for a game which is..well a game, not an esport, not even close to being an esport and honestly the pvp scenarios are just laughable at best regarding class use and tactics.

I understand why twitch had about 5 GW2 streams running last time I was browsing and about 30 viewers….(also reminds me why LoL is just so much better for competitive play).

Your whole post…how hard is that to understand. I’ll give you the quick 2 second summary of the first paragraph of your first post, to help you get started. It begins where you start telling someone they played poorly, when it had absolutely ZERO to do with the posting topic. Go ahead, read on and digest…I’ll wait.
