I hear this argument once in a while, usually when a team loses and someone near the bottom of the scoreboard wants to vent his frustration: “Just because you have a high score doesn’t mean you helped the team!” or something similar to “point != win”.

Personally, I think that the vast majority of the time, it’s stupid logic and this is why:
Everything you do to get points in pvp, helps the team in some way.

It is possible to get few points and still help the team, but it is not possible to get many points and not help the team.

Now that’s not to say the team with the highest scoring players always will win (but it’s more often the case than not) , but it does mean that the top player did a good job at contributing.

Staying on point and defending a point does not get you points.
Usually when someone bunkers and defends a point they don’t normally get very many points as apposed to those who are only zerging from point to point capping it and letting it get back-capped.

Those kind of people are essentially useless to the team but also get the most points.

If someone takes a point, and it get’s back-capped, the minimum they did was delay the enemy from scoring points for a duration of time. The maximum they did was gain points for their team while the enemy has their focus elsewhere.

If a bunker takes a point, and it doesn’t get capped, the minimum they did was stand on an empty point. The maximum they did was delay the enemy from scoring points for a duration of time.

Only one of these tactics has room to be worthless.

listen here “kitten”, I don’t care what bunker build you run, you won’t stop a team of 1v5 long enough for them to even know you are a bunker.

Why would you say points don’t matter, then follow up with an advertisement for your r13theif (whoopie do btw) by saying “always number one in my team!”.

I don’t expect a valid argument from someone like yourself, but at least don’t make self-defeating statements and then claim someone else is stupid.

But he’s right… if you’re going by hotjoin (I’m assuming you are because no tPvP player would say the points indicate anything) then most of the time, the person with the most points is either the person who stayed with the zerg, or capped the most nodes. Of those two things, capping nodes is important, but most of the time in hotjoin, people will literally race all the way across an empty battlefield, leaving another nodes defenseless, just to cap a point with you, which is pointless.

Points from kills are subjective… I can’t tell you the number of games, so frustrating, to watch people duke it out over a single point while the enemy has 2 completely empty nodes on both sides that are defenseless. In this respect, I’ve seen teams with glory scores of 200+ to ours in the low 100s or less that we beat 500-200.

So basically, they are right, it doesn’t indicate anything except that you tagged someone that got killed, or you capped a point. It ‘could’ mean you played well, but it isn’t proof of anything.

There is no formula : who was effective and who wasnt.
Supporters and bunker will never get much points and thats ok, but still they are very importand for a team. Same time there are lot of hot join players who run thru points and cap them all the time, while they are need’d in fight.
