Rapid Fire, 10 stacks of vulnerability, 9k DMG, sometimes more, every 10 seconds.

Come on ANET, why did you do this to us?

Ranger unviable??

Give him some crip and immob stacks and make him an off-point fighter to snare opponents from getting to points (a throwback from gw1).

What do you guys think?

Every time I 1v1 them I have a 35% win ratio (edited) vs them and sometimes during clutch times in the match they beat me so fast with 1 button. And I feel like quitting.

They are not going to nerf 15k+ damage burst from 1700 range, but they will nerf the abysmal damage of celestial stats after nerfing the might stacking. Trying to find the logic in Anet’s balancing is like figure skating while playing a guitar solo.

Top players find them difficult to 1v1 also.

I watched Helseth today lose it because he kept dying and getting chased around the map.

What profession do you play StickerHappy.8052?

Fair enough there are some builds that could take them down like HAMBOW for example. (Balanced Stance and Earthshaker leap) but for Engi it is difficult let alone Mes or Necro. Thief has some plays vs it. He can stealth and he has a lot of dodge rolls.

It’s a difficult debate but sometimes they are just too op. I don’t think the game is designed so that if you’re playing a certain class you should avoid the Power Ranger all together??

I main mesmer lol. I eat rangers alive. But at the same time I play ranger, so, When I play ranger, I also rekt most mesmers alive.

So My main advice is play the class so youll know how to counter it.

Sorry for being rude but In all honesty you guys should be complaining about engies, not a bottom tier ranger.

Power ranger has a distinct weakness: In large brawls, all he can do is stand at a distance and shoot arrows. If someone goes down, he can’t go in to rezz. He can’t provide boon support. He can’t hold points.
All he has is his .30 cal assault bow and a surprise dog in case someone comes close.

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

Sorry, but double longbow is reserved for the “living arrowcart”…
All those cooldown reduction traits will reduce barrage cooldown to weapon swap cooldown.

If the range was 1200 and you could be equally hit it wouldn’t be as bad. But, Rangers can get terrain advantages and simply camp LB from safety. That situation has to go bye bye. Then remove some of the vulnerability too. Applying 15 stacks in a couple of seconds is too much as well.

How bout balancing rangers to be in par with Meta classes?

Terrain advantages? Isn’t that supposed to be ranger’s are about?

You can still LOS rapid fire or any of the 4 LB attacks for that matter?

Dodges and LOS are AVAILABLE TO ALL CLASSES, NO MECHANIC NEEDED. So you have 2 counters already.

  • +1 if you bring a block (I’m sure most engies have it)
  • +1 If you pull them closer (which I’m sure classes have it to one way or the other)
  • +1 if you can interrupt RF channel (I’m sure most classes can avail of this too)
  • +1 if you have reflect (not all classes have it, but you get that point)
  • +1 if you run condies (almost all LB zerk rangers have 0 or 1 cleanse)

So What is the matter?

I would take on a pew pew any day than any engie build (which has condies, nades, pulls, blocks, turrets)

PS: YOU CAN DODGE FORWARD TOWARDS THE RANGER TO BREAK THE GAP AND START FROM THERE

I think this is really is an L2P issue, complaining about 1 weapon set in a Class’ kitten nal and Mehcanic

I have been wondering for a while some time ago, if pewpew (6/6/2/0/0) is so easy to play yet super effective then why we dont see more people playing it? And then ones we generally see eating their own rapid fire cus too pro to cancel it against reflect.

Thing i love on my pewpew is when i roflstomp someone else and then they starts complain. At this point im telling them to log on pewpew and 1v1 after match – for some reason they always reject a duel

Pewpew has decent kiting abilities, high damage output but hes also squishy, lacking any condition removal outside of signet (in case if you put it on your bar ofc..) and has generally1-2 stunbreaks on long cd’s. Hardly gamebreaking compared to cancer engis. There inst any reason to nerf it, its easy to play spec but hard to master.

Ofc turret engi and power rangers (maybe also power necro) arent meta, but complaints about them doesnt come because they would be top tier but rather because they have lame mechanics. Turret engis had AI and power rangers have lame fast shooting bow. Both engi AI and Bow do too much for skill invested. Its just some wild anet design choice to make classes more viable trough lame stuff. And maybe many ppl would agree that normalising the bow and buffing other parts of ranger could be better choice, not just nerfing stuff to the ground.

Is Turret Engie just the problem for engies? Even cele engies do a lot just for spamming grenades. They have to much CC, blocks, etc.

I just find it weird that engies like some of the posters here are complaining while their class technically have a lot of the stuff better than rangers.

And guess what? The upcoming changes for engies are just WOW.

Check the general changes to longbow/lead the wind and opening strike, not seeing nerfs on the front.

I lol’d when I read this AND agree. But ranger can rez sometimes if your good with entangle/signet but if the enemy team is good they will be able to hold you down even after you use Lightning Reflex.

A good power ranger has a slight edge over a good shatter mesmer. But it so happens that most ranger players are just bad.

On that point I agree. It’s what the OP should have stated instead of making himself sound… the way he sounds.

The Ranger, along with the mesmer and Thief, are 1v1 classes. We all know how well 1v1 builds perform in tpvp. The exception is Thief. Thanks to teefs mobility he can back-cap effectively then fly across the map to gank a 2v1. Mesmers as well, just not as effective.

Rangers are flat-footed compared to classes with such mobility and ultimately cause groups to become staggered easily because they CANNOT fallback when needed. This is the second reason why Rangers are not used in high tier.

Rangers cannot effectively run Celestial builds which means that they must choose between raw physical or condi DPS “they cannot have both” and it is easy in more coordinated teams to mitigate such sources of single aspect DPS. Everything the Ranger fires is a “projectile” that deals raw physical and it is easy to negate in comparison to a Cele/Rifle which has both raw physical with condi and many of it’s attacks don’t count as projectiles so it still can deal DPS through projectile nulling fields. If you dance around a ranger when their SoS is on cooldown, their LB is useless and they often panic.

In competetive play, we rarely see PowerRangers, just because they are easily countered and they offer very little utility/sustain. So in most cases, there are better alternatives for dps.

And if you loose often against PowerRangers, have you maybe thought about the fact that you might run a build thats simply bad against them or that you’re just playing bad/wrong against it?

If I suck at a MU, my first response isn’t to make a whinethread on the boards, but to think about my build, whether I should even try and 1v1 the PR, what I might be doing wrong etc. and then I go make some 1v1’s with decent players and learn the MU.

I can agree with your proposal of making the ranger more similar to what he was in GW1: More snares, better interrupts etc. could be something pretty cool.

I’ll like to point out that your third reason about celestial amulet isnt a valid argument. Celestial amulet isn’t the only viable option in pvp. You don’t see guardians, thieves and mesmers worry about the aspect of not having condition damage whilst on berserker’s.

Instead the reason should be that rangers are selfish in their skill sets. All of their skills buff their pets or themselves. Mesmers can team portal/mass invis, Thief can invis/quickly jump to fights, guardians can team support buffs etc. Unfortunately power rangers does not bring any bonus benefit to the team besides burst damage. Lastly would like to add Rangers isn’t completely absent in high tier pvp. Look up some legacy of the foefire matches and you’ll occassionally see Drazer playing ranger. It’s just most maps dont suit ranger’s playstyle as Power Rangers are a deadly beast in courtyard. In the near future, I can see rangers being quite strong in stronghold, where point contesting is irrelevant.

This past match the enemy teams top personal scorer was a Ranger that camped LB the entire match. That’s all he did was sit behind his teammates at max ranger and pew pew away. He probably looks at that score and believes he’s contributing the most.

So aside from what seems to be basically a ‘keep rangers out of pvp’ thread, what do you all want besides that? How do you have the ranger be a opinion in all tiers of play without them being ‘OP’ in your opinion?

Because if it isn’t longbow, it’s spirits, it’s condition’s or the pet; the list seems never ending.

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

The difference?

Turret engie is ON POINT. THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF CONQUEST, TO CAPTURE AND HOLD POINTS.

Pew Pew ranger? Can he hold a point? No. Can He lets his pet do all the work? No.

How bout turret engie? Can he hold a point. Yes. Can he let his turrets do all the work? Yes.

I DO NOT EVEN GET WHY YOU WOULD STILL DEFEND YOUR TURRET ENGIE MR. ENGIE PLAYER

Engie is looking like the favored love child of anet along with thieves and warriors.

Don’t worry, after the changes you will be complaining about someone else then, rangers? not anymore.

Pew Pew rangers can only sting with RF if they are made of glass.

Seeing as how staying alive while made of glass means staying out of combat range as best as possible and immediately addressing anyone within 300m of you, Rangers cannot contest points and thus are useless when it comes to contributing to anything beyond single player kills.

Add that to the fact that they get focused after the third or so player they kill and can have their damage reflected by almost every other class, and their benefits are short lived.

Turret engies reward you for staying in one place. That one place can easily be a point, which means you’re actively contributing for doing relatively nothing but plonking your turrets on a site and sitting there.

As some players have already made some… statements… on the subject, here a totally unbiased comment on the difference between turrets and glassbow.

If I have to point out a big difference: with glassbow, you have an easy time during fights, but you are shifting responsibility for actually winning the fight to your team, because all you do is dps, and will always struggle to make an impact on the score of the game. With a turreteer, you have an easy time impacting the score board, but you will always struggle during fights.

I learned playing PvP by playing the glassbow over countless games back in the old soloqueue and even back in the old 8 player hotjoins. The glassbow makes it easy to fight, but teaches you the necessity of good rotations. You can hit like a truck full of bricks, but in the large scheme of things, all you do is poke at enemies and cap empty points. If you are at the wrong place, all you can do is scramble to the next fight and curse about the wasted time. You can learn a lot about tactics by playing the glassbow, because you have to apply those tactics correctly for your actions to have a positive effect on the team score.

A couple weeks back, I was looking into a bunker build… And well, if you want to bunker, turreteer is all the rage right now. The turreteer is all about stalling a fight on point till defensive rotations can arrive. He will also crush anyone doing a bad rotation against him and just die, if the opponents are smart about rotating or if his team sucks.
A lot of strategy goes into playing a turreteer correctly. But it stops at strategy. Once you set up, you won’t move around for a lot.

With this being said, here’s the direct comparison. Feel free to make some witty “in soviet russia” remarks:

A longbow teaches you the necessity of good rotations and improves your understanding of PvP tactics by making you lose the game despite having the highest score of all the players on both teams, if you don’t rotate properly. A turret makes you feel the necessity for good rotations, but doesn’t teach you anything. Instead it teaches all the other players in the game, both friend and foe, the necessity of good rotations and punishes them with a game loss, if they don’t rotate properly.

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
