A lil bit of that $400,000 could have gone to hiring a programmer on contract to add solo queue, especially given the community is supposedly so large right now.

Unless that is, adding solo queue costs more than $400,000 which makes me wonder why such a vital component was removed in the first place tbh

I’m not sure I find the link. Cost or development time is certainly not why soloq is not in the game.

Moreover, do you realize that the pool prize is not in the pvp development budget? It is a marketing expense. I mean, sure, you’re already a customer, so why should you care about finding new players, right? Well, Anet does, that’s why they have a marketing budget. You really should have said “Anet should put more ads on twitch/YouTube instead of having that huge price”.

The marketing team seems to think a huge price pool tournament would bring new players to the competitive scene. While I’m not entirely sure I share their faith, it certainly is a strategy other games have had, and Anet’s mad men are old enough to do what they want with their money.

On a side note, I’m sure you should care more about marketing than you do. More players playing pvp = better match-making. We don’t need your soloq, we need a growing scene.

edit: I forgot to write that some of the prize might very well be paid by ESL.

Companies usually dies from miss management budgets. I agree with Op’s but let see if Anet makes us wrong about it.
