I thought maybe instead of screaming at the top of our lungs we could take a stab at productivity.

Section 1: state what p/b (profession/build) you are contributing to.
Proper point rotations for your p/b.

Section 2: general tips on how to kill and stay alive.
Very brief description of how a certain p/b will try to kill you, and what you can do to prevent it.

Section 3: more basics.
When to res/stomp, rush lord, team fight, backcap/decap, etc.

Section 4: yay.
Give yourself a pat on the back for being an honest god fearing citizen that believes in the good of your fellow man.

Don’t try to over do it with walls of text. To clarify, walls of text are ok if they are clear and to the point. What I mean is don’t plague your response with what ifs and opinions. Provide facts. Thank you ahead of time for your contributions.

Builds should be the ones found on metabattle.com. If you are contributing a specific custom build, don’t. My reasoning behind this is that new or simply regular players seeking knowledge should be able to come to know what to use when and where. You must be able to walk before you can run!

See, this part here is a bit contradictory.

A. It’s pretty hard trying to explain rotations without going into detail. That will result in a bit of a wall.
B. Pro players don’t necessarily play meta. They may start out with it but as time goes, the build evolves to suit their preferences. Just go check out Roms stream sometime, his druid build isn’t very meta. Or atleast I saw him playing with Wilderness Survival and Axe at one point very successfully.

Just thought I’d post something to keep this on the 1st page. It’s a good thing you are doing here, but your guidelines may be a bit too restrictive.

Yannir for males. (guard,thief,war,ele)
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

Some of what ur asking is so subjective and dynamic that there is no answer able to be given. Its a learned experience, understanding the map, and enemy movement, is something that u really cannot just be taught. Even res/stomp is completely dependant on what classes are in the fight and what cooldowns have been used.

As far as staying alive, again u have to learn the limits ur capable of an X class from playing, it cannot just be bequeathed upon some one.

I suppose it’s easier to describe situations you try to create because you are comfortable with handling them.

I’m far from a pro player but I know +1 on a DH are confortable. They are pretty vulnerable once they get 50% hp and I just need to watch out for their leap heal. Aside from that they fall pretty fast and allow me to go somewhere else pretty quickly.

I suppose there are such situation for all classes and build

What I meant to say is to not plague your post is what ifs and opinions. As for meta builds, I would think providing info on them would be the best solution for new players. Being new, learning rotations and 1v1s while playing on a suboptimal (not using it properly) build seems like a bit much. Customizing is fine if you know what youre doing.

I realize the truth of this, and while the attempt may fail, that’s no reason to not try. I don’t believe in impossible. Anything can be taught, and while what you say is true, I believe what you are talking about is intuition. The simple fact of “if x class goes here then you go here” is all that should be attempted to interpret.

I use a custom build. But I’m no expert. Since changing to it I’ve had close to a 75% win/loss. I have never logged in to metabattle so I don’t know what exists there. I think helping players learning basics is important, but let them discover their own style of play on their own.

Teach them HOW to think, not what to think.

I’ve already stated why I think this is false. To repeat, someone using an optimal build will have an easier time learning the basics without having to worry that their failures are due to their build (which is often the case if you aren’t experienced enough to use non meta setups). If you succeed at using non meta, then that’s awesome, but don’t think that you succeeded due to your build. You succeeded because you used it proficiently.

I suppose that makes sense. But I guess i just never learned that way. I learned through trial and error and experimentation. I finally found something that suits me that “counters” what I face a lot of currently. By counter I mean using something people don’t expect to face. It isn’t perfect, but it has worked wonders for me since the theorycraft.

I’m halfway ok with what you say. It’s true having the meta build to learn the basics is great and efficient but people need to try playing other builds. It helps constructing your play style faster.

I will give you an example with thief:

you start learning with the meta build and you get used to burst your target on +1 with steal. The damages are good enough to not really worry on the timing to engage at a beginner level. If you practise at the same time a set like s/d, you will learn to be more of a bruiser. s/d is all about going in and out of fights at the right time and observe the opponent. In the end the s/d experience is good for d/p thief because you acquired that knowledge to wait for the good opportunity to engage at higher level.

Can’t disagree with either of you wholeheartedly. I might be able to be persuaded by the fun factor… haha. If you’re getting serious enough to study tactics chances are fun isn’t at the top of your list, but its still important. Playing non meta or suboptimal builds and indeed other professions will expand your knowledge greatly.

Good initiative, would be nice if more participant. although difficulty sometimes hit me off the meta chart and game basics are sometimes hard to maneuver when paired with questionable ally but, this kind of discussion could help a lot of people who play this game casually like myself, will root on this one for better leaning xp.
