Problems with current tournaments
I’m sure if you want it that much you’ll make time. It’s once every sunday. Can’t be that hard to make it, as most people have sundays off. And it’s very easy to find out how to sign up you just need to read.
ohhh im saying from a casual perspective, me being someone who wants to do the tourneys i did find them but i have met many people on here who dont read the patch notes and dont check the updates. I know many people who dont even know that this game has a serious pvp team setting out there.
Im just suggesting for the future a way to promote the tourneys through the in game situations also easier ways to find these tourneys. Seriously the wall of champions in hotm has the 2013 list and thats it. Maybe if they had the champ and a match they won in the tourney it would get more interest from teh casual player.
The problem here, is that you’re looking at this as a casual player, these tournaments you’re talking about have CASH prizes to them. Cash prizes attract and are normally meant for serious, hardcore players/teams.
And Anet/GW2 promotes these tournaments heavily, just not in game. For instance, your log-in client will show many of these posts when sign-ups are open, when they are happening and when the post-videos are up to watch. They also promote all these on Twitter and Facebook. It really isn’t hard to find any of these.
Instead of asking to change the competitive/semi-pro tournaments they’re trying to set up. You should ask to see if they’re are non-cash tournaments, which do pop-up from time to time. These are very small and player-run/hosted/created. You could, yourself host one if you wanted something casual.

you are right on most points but i think they should promote a in game type of casual situation for people who might be on the verge. Also a way for casual players to enter into solo tourneys and play with that group for that day as long as they keep winning. Kind of like in gw1, the ability to ask if everyone wants to stay partied for the next match. All in all you might be right but i wouldnt have the time or the ability to set up full tourneys for the casual which is why i brought it up. If im wrong i can accept that and it looks like i might be.
We need in game tournaments, like the ones in Gw1, for several reasons :
- an other way to climb the ladder quickly : for example, in normal ranked fights, you can get -3 till+3 rating points. In tournaments, it could be like -20 till+20. That way, very good players would be at the top without having to do 30 games/day, and some casual gamers could as well get to a correct spot
- competitive/fun/rewards/… : reward track farming gets old, this might bring other sources of motivation
- finding new players to play with : solo people might have to ask in chat for other players to participate to the daily tournament, so more teams should form
