Thank you very much, Anet, for sharing the trait revamp with us, but I have some serious concerns given the traits that you previewed. An incredible number of insanely powerful effects are being added to automatic procs that occur instantly due to reaching 50% health, using an instant skill, or randomly farting out a condition. These traits are VERY unskillful, and promote a shift towards “build wars” that is stronger than ever in order to counter all the instant-damage, conditions, and cc that will go off.

Your combat system is amazing when it accentuates “big effects tied to big animations.” These trait changes are putting even stronger effects on instant-procs, which takes away from the benefits of your combat system.

Please consider toning down these instant procs in favor of more changes that promote active skill usage. Its neither skillful nor fun to just let procs carry your builds, and it seems many fights are going to result in the same way a fight with a power necro is now: whoever reaches 50% health first just gets bombed with condis, instant damage, and is in down-state.

Some procs are okay I guess, they don’t promote good play from the player that has the procs, but might force good reactions from the opposing player: like knowing CD’s of earths embrace as a terror-necro and safing corrupt boon for when it procs etc.

But atm, there are just way too many procs, AoE-boonspamming, AoE-condiremoval, automated added effects on things you will basically use anyways if they are rdy (attunement-switching, cleansing ire etc.) It’s just too much.

Agreed. I don’t know what is it so hard to understand about the concept of less passive play for AN, but they seem to be fixated on all kinds of procs and thresholds. After going through preview it seems that what’s gonna matter the most is how you build your toon, not how you actually play it. Build Wars indeed.

I agree, too. I’m very disappointed they’re taking half of the traits and making them into passive procs. It goes for both offensive and deffensive traits, which is pretty sad.

And if you think Elemental Attunement is bad, because you always get the proc, 20% flat damage reduction in 600 range is way way way worse.

I agree. We already have too much of this stuff and it doesn’t promote active skill usage or skillful play, more like promotes spamming any skill instantly on cool down.

There are multiple reasons why GW2 hasn’t become Esports and this is one of them (horrible match making system, badly implemented stealth mechanism, conquest based spvp being other big reasons).
