Profession and amulet vote ban in PvP.
Sure. get a private arena and you can do that right now. Anet was way ahead of you.

So what stops all Mesmers from voting no thieves, or all engineers to vote no necromancers, or all thieves voting no meditation guardians? Not sure this really works as an idea.
I think its unreasonable because some people have preferences and in some extreme cases perfer to play one build/class 99% of the time. So you are telling that person they are banned from a match basically or they have to play something they don’t want to play. Ultimately you are telling a player they can’t play what they want and that’s bad for business.

Private arenas don’t get as much rewards, cost money, can be difficult to access etc.
So really this really isn’t about balance at all it is about you wanting an easy way to avoid aspects of the game you do not like.

That depends on how the voting is handles. If a random player chooses for the whole team, he may ban a direct counter to his class and attempt to carry the team or ban a meta build to help the whole team. The concept works for MOBAs fairly well.

Sometimes I will have my favorite classes banned, I’m willing to accept it for the ability of players to forcibly change the meta if it’s broken.

It works for MOBAs. It even works for the current GW2 2v2 tournies, where Cele amulet is already banned as overpowered or other tournament where races locked to standard Human. Sometimes a few players need to be inconvenienced if it helps to preserve the integrity of the whole game.

Luckily, the game isn’t designed exclusively for your liking.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Some people really don’t think these ideas through.
No.
Just stop. lol

If you find your own personal arena, difficult to access, then you have bigger issues then this. If you want special rules, and are to cheap to pay for it, then you don’t really want them.

Good thing this isn’t one of those crappy MOBA’s then.

I doubt you will ever have your “favorite” profession banned, because they probably will not institute such a bad idea that creates artificial limits. Cruddy MOBA’s are that way —-———>

A little overzealous here.

Don’t mobas have dozens of different options for characters, with set skills? I mean if you ban someone’s class or spec, you may isolate a player.
Also directly counters the whole play how you want to play thing. Doesn’t always work in practice but this is literally saying you can’t play how you might want to.
Oh man I would seriously vote zerker/assasin (hateful humor) all the time. So you want (more) MOBA elements in GW2?? Aren’t the 1 vote wonders in map rotation stressful enough for some to handle, you want it to affect players as well… I can’t see this working out the bit just create a custom arena then create a thread on how to improve it. How is the effect different than the one from daily profession wins?? The devs don’t trust players despite a “nice” community.
The Dhuumfire thread
it’s very necessary. this isn’t just a “moba element”. it’s balance.
currently, the matchmaker is broken. for conquest, to hold a point, you need sustain, CC and burst. you need roamers. so, if one team has 2 necros, 2 rangers and X, they likely wont be able to hold a point and wont be able to roam. if one team has no heavies or celestial builds, they wont be able to hold a point. these ridiculous comps happen to me several times a night.
GW2 unfortunately has elements of rock paper scissors balancing, as it’s not balanced around 1v1. there are profs that cant 1v1 too well, there are profs that can roam to well, or bunker too well. if we have RPS elements, there needs to be counter play in the drafting process, i.e. picking and counterpicking.
to add insult to injury, the matchmaker currently doesn’t distribute professions equally across the two teams. it’s entirely broken. pvp is a bit of a joke imo.

in reality banning things at will without needing to have a reason other than not wanting to play against something is always going to be dumb.
the only way this would work was if the only candidates for “banning” were highly controversial builds anet recognizes as imbalanced and are thoroughly recognized by all sides of the community as such, acting as a temporary relief from such builds until anet properly addresses them through balance changes. it would be an incredibly fun way of avoiding having to play with stuff like teams with 3 turret engies or 4 celestial players while punishing said players exploiting these builds with longer queues.
however this would never happen though because of how vocal these bandwagon players tend to get.
this is an incredibly stupid idea if you dont want to fight vs something do private this idea of banning classes is just dumb
I am actually surprised this was posted as a real idea to fix some type of false issue…. Sorry, but the whole proposed idea of letting players ban class X and amulet X from that game is moronic at best, and just mentioning it displays a whole new level of ignorance and idiocy.
The game is a measure of counter-builds. No one build is god-mode. Something counters it. To sit here an state you feel players need to ban amulet X or class X from your arena is a kittening joke. It basically just makes you seem like a kitten poor player who doesn’t know his kitten from his elbow. You obviously have no team comp, and probably lack team play within your games – so you get face-rolled by certain classes DESIGNED to kill you, or by classes in the hands of skilled players.
So let’s get this out of the way first. I have tested all the classes in pvp, definitely not extensively or for data. I wanted to see what I enjoyed the most to make as a main. I settled on thief and mesmer. Thief is my main now, mesmer a close second!
However, I find that no matter which class I would play – if I happened to be doing better than certain players, they would kitten and whine that the class I am playing is OP. You sir, are probably one of those types of players. Find a class you like, and play it. Stop kittenin whining worse then my two year old because and engi, ele, thief, mesmer, ranger, warrior, guard spammed what you feel is 2 buttons to own you.
Do not propose kittened fixes to non-existent issues. Try something more tangible. Maybe, limit the hotjoining (unranked/ranked) to be with players within 10 levels of your PVP rank (Im not sure if this is already in or not, but I find some matches to be some kitten good players then others I feel like I’m jus pressing Finish Him the whole match).
Bad idea for many reasons
Mainly, what you are suggesting is removal of content entirely, not balancing.
