Professional Professions.
I could get behind something like this. I really want to see what well coordinated and practiced all class teams would be capable of.
Well, I do really want to see something like this happen. So if you guys want to see this happen too, help me by backing it, and posting here.
If you guys think that a prize would help the competitive side of it, or if you have any ideas, post them here.
what’s the point, we all know necro’s would win so why even bother. I mean, you have TWO hp bars, give me a break.
I would interested in this to improve my game.

Not really. On SOAC tournament, Warrior team beat Necro team

LOL.
If the necro team did win it would not be because of Death Shroud. Were you drunk when you wrote this? Joking? Trolling?
Honestly I don’t think that teams with 5 of the same profession are entertaining. There is more to learn from and talk about when you put out a diverse comp and watch the cross-profession synergies. I think that is where the value to the community would be in assembling “Professional” players (btw, I don’t think it is reasonable to call anyone currently playing this game pro, because it implies something exists that the game is still miles away from having) . Just my $0.02.
Really though, anything that promotes more people paying even a little attention to the game would be good.
Perhaps go with an all female, 0 gear on tourney.
In my opinion, if you are going to do this, I would suggest changing the tournament format completely from the elimination/ladder style tournament, to a round robin style tournament.
I represented the Mesmers (on short notice) yesterday, and simply felt we were incredibly lucky to not have been matched against the Rangers or Thieves, which led to the Mesmer team pulling off a victory.

I believe bas already mentioned the orgization of such an event as apart of the SoAC tournament. I was only a saturday member of the necro team, but with a small amount of practice we were able to at least do better than the thursday match-up.
I think the whole goal of all profession teams is to have fun, show the weaknesses/strengths of each professions, and bring the community together. The only thing it currently lacks is a division between upper tier and lower tier players, and better rewards/community support.
It is my understanding that the SoAC event is going to start running monthly with this type of division but I guess we will see. Round Robin does seem like it would be a little more interesting seeing as teams would face a more varied rotation and would be guaranteed to meet a hard counter like necros did vs mesmer. You should definitely hit them up to see if you can’t get involved in the organization.
Like the sound of a round robin formatting as well pitting every class against another at some point in the match ups. Since ever class as better or worse match up to any of the given. Also think if it does get rolling having respectable couches in every match up willing to take in the ideas of the team as well as direct it is sound to me as the Soac some had mix feeling about there representing couch not be to considering over all, but think the idea would really go far if we get the backing/support for it maybe even shine some light on some.
Well, SoAC has been described as “for fun”. I’m looking at for competition. Round Robin format would probably be best. So again, if a bunch of people would like to see this happen, I’ll start trying to organize it.
I’m game.
As either a coach, or a player. (Engi team)
I didn’t catch the SoAC tourny, but it sounds like a round robin format would probably be better for an all-class team type tourny.
I’m in, but has to be within a time zone I can do it, because I couldn’t do SocC due to the time zone choice. I’m on the east coast. I can do either engi or mesmer.
Alright, everyone that wants to start a team for this, post in your respected Profession forums, and recruit some players!
Send me a PM with the Roster in this format:
_____________
Team name
- Player 1
- Player 2
- Player 3
- Player 4
- Player 5
Coach Name
I’m planning this to be an over-time thing, giving everyone time to practice and train. So no rush.

The day you stop having fun playing a game is the day you stop playing that game (unless its WoW, in which case you complain constantly for changes, get pandas, and keep playing for a game that you hate to play). Just because something is fun doesn’t mean it isn’t competitive.
On that note, SOAC was planning to look at a way to have a division for higher level players. This would both give people a chance to see really high level players on a class, and also to give a bit more fairness to the “amateur” bracket (there were people playing who were undoubtably not newer). But if you’d like to organize it, obviously no one is stopping you.
Bhawb, my point is that the SoAC Tourney was awful because no one took it seriously, except a couple of teams that absolutely dominated because it was ‘only for fun’
The issue is that some classes are naturally better vs other classes and with balance not all classes are created equal to begin with. SOAC was fine because it was a friendly tournament that was based on fun. Trying to set up something serious is not going to work out as you think.

That’s why the Round Robin format was suggested. Besides, like any fighting game matchup chart, each class only has a few bad matchups. That means most of the fights will be determined through skill and strategy.

It was for fun, unless you are trying to imply that having fun is awful, I don’t see your point. It was never supposed to show who was the best profession.
We’re looking at dividing the brackets in the future so there won’t be the ridiculous skill differences (which, as many noticed, actually meant very little in most of the matches), but taking the tournament too seriously just wasn’t our original goal.
I think people forget that this tournament was just planned to be a few teams of people messing around in a custom arena until about 48 hours before the date when all the partnerships, streaming, coaching, etc. happened.
Its great if you want to make a serious tournament for the professions, I’d just caution because some are very obviously going to not have equal showings unless they happen to be able to gimmick well enough.

If you wanna see a true tourney of this sort it should be along the lines of.
Thieves: Caed, Jumper X, Luci Puff, Hemodey….
Guardians: Davinci, Doyourbestbear, Xnemy, Kensuda….
Engineers: Lady Steamhawke, Ostrich Eggs, Voz, Ctang….
Mesmer: Supcutie, Ellen Ari, The Fun Years, Sataarcoeny?….
Warriors: K Pop, Schwarheit, Black Bry Banger, Anastasis, Qt Hman.
Rangers: Deku God, lyl Ovi Iyl, Twerp, Line (you’re better at ranger), Gasmask.
Elementalist: Acandis…. I don’t really know who else eles are all the same imo.
Necromancers: Gibbly, Symbolic, Power…..
Note: These are just some names. There are a lot of other players out there that would do just as well in a tourney such as this.
I think it should be top players in their professions as a “professional profession” tourney.
Am I good?… I’m good.

lol @ putting voz in engineers. NICE JOKE
Not necessarily. Very few of those players you listed Eurantien would have experience in a team comprised entirely of their class. However I wouldn’t mind seeing some well-known names appear in the tournament. The question is, would they want to?

Was that a joke? To my knowledge Necromancers are the only ones that regularly play around with all of their profession (or close to it).
I stated “Very few” Bhawb. Regardless at this point I wouldn’t put Gibbly in any team of mine.
I’d join for the thieves. My rank isn’t high in PvP though (hot join is… Well, you know, I don’t have a team, and I’ve been more of a WvW player in the past :/), so the thief team might not want me. However, I am big into buildcrafting, tactics, strategies, etc, so I don’t feel that my rather pathetic rank 14 well represents my ability as a player.
You might be able to coach then, Arganthium. Try to organize a team on the Thief forums, and whisper me ingame if you want to discuss it.

Cool beans.
I’ll write up a post in the thief forums when I get the chance.
I know we have a lot of argument in the past. I get over it. If it is in NA, I am interested in the tourney, in particularly, having a match with you 1on1. Pm me in game if you are interested in me, Kaane Moka, the Eles, join as player. Cheers

I don’t like 1v1s. But sure, start recruiting and find a coach for your team, Stealth.
If you feel Eles is Op to you, you can choose bw ,y other toon, Ranger, Mesmer, Thief. I also have War and Necro but not pvp usually with them. I don’t have a team unfortunately. What you can do is I am sure there will be other player that don’t have a team. You can group us together, then we can sparred each other to see if we can manage well together. I have friends that are on leader board rank, I will ask if he can coach us. Also let me know time and date as well, weekend is best for us.

It depends, when I have all the teams sorted out I shall determine the date and time based on everyone’s feelings. I hope to get at the VERY least 1 week of practice before hand.
Ok, cause if I know the date and time, it would be easier for me to organise a team since most of my friend list is different time zone as mine. Uk theirs and mines is Aus. Btw, what class u pick for our duel and what time zone you are in?
Proud player of : team [uA] – team [TGI]. Australia base, now recruiting.
I don’t like duels, they mean nothing and are irritatingly based upon matchups. I am GMT -7.
If you would like to contact me, PM me for my Skype information
I don’t have Skype , so what is your name in game, I will contact you. I know you dislike duelling but I want to test my skill simply. In group fight, you can not measure your skill due to too much factors involved.

Just to let you know. SOAC is already doing something like this. I just wasn’t going to announce it until we got the captains in place and their list of teams. It’s fine if you want to do it. Just letting you know that one of the things we actively talked to with the coaches and several of the top NA and EU players about a top Player tournament Handpicked players.
I don’t mind you doing one, just figured you would want to know.
Let me guess, you picked Gibbly. Right?
I’d love to be part of this and even input some of my experiences as an elementalist!

It will be hard to get good players for this, because they’re constantly scrimming.
SOAC gaming is already doing this in the same sort of way. Making a second one would just be redundant. Just because you did not like how it went does not mean throw a hissy fit and say “I can do it better”. Give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback to the people who already have the manpower and support for this type of event; it will prove more useful.

A cheap copy.
I think “professional team” matches would not be as fun because glaring profession mechanics would show face and some teams would be at extreme disadvantage.

As fun as the SOAC tourney was, I’m not sure how I feel about single profession tourneys being played out over and over.
They can’t really ever be anything more than for fun. There are inherent limitations to single profession teams where they will always be disadvantaged against another. If these get done too often, you will see people start complaining about balance when they shouldn’t. This will happen even if you tell people not to, especially if it’s streamed with lots of viewers.
That, and the novelty will probably wear off as well. One time would probably be fine, but I hope it’s not repeated.

I feel you’re definitely correct in saying how the novelty will only last so long. I’d hope that it’d last long enough to do a higher level Single Profession tournament as it would be a lot of fun. As imbalanced as it would be.
I think a good idea would be to have a once a month or fortnightly SOAC tournament which applies a different constraint to the teams playing. So something like no utilities or no armour. Maybe a fun constraint like that and see how teams cope.
Of course people will probably disagree with me and want more actual tournaments but it is a suggestion!

It’s all about matchups. If Guardians faced Warriors, warriors are done. If Mesmers face Necros, Necro’s are done. If Guardians faced Necros, Guardians are dead. It’s a giant circle. Some classes just hard counter others all things being equal, and facing off in a group setting.
The fun part of the amateur one was that a lot of the new players got to experience the high intensity and scrutiny that comes with being in a tournament.

Haha, we already have shoutcasters setup for an event we are working on that works down that line. Trust me, as soon as I lock down the details we will be working with Blu on doing weekday fun/interesting and gimmicky tournaments. We just need to finish up some details, and figure out some small things before we announce anything.
I know that this isn’t entirely on topic, but since you’re talking tourney ideas… something I think could be a repeating deal is the idea that we bounced around of a draft tourney of “amateur” players (with a strict rank cap) coached by higher ranked players.
That would give a lot of newer people exposure to a tourney scene without getting crushed by premades, and might inspire some new teams to form up and practice. They would get coaching, and every team would have a varied class comp.

I will talk with you later about this on skype if you want. I was talking with Pyro and Zoose about something like this last week, but not quite to the same level.
