Promoting elitism
#1 - You’re talking about being elite... in a regards to player vs player ranking... as a negative thing? They have 5v5 hot join for a reason.
# 2 - No, just no. They should however separate solo q vs team q, which they’ve already addressed they are working on.
# 3 - That is untrue. Myself, amongst many others, solo q and have climbed into the top 1000 easily from this method.
Being out of the scene for 2 months does not make you an informative expert. In fact, although there is still much to fix, what they’ve implemented in the past 2 months have been a significant benefit to class balanace, development of the current meta, and quality of life improvements.
Problem #3:
You are unable to rank player, you are actually ranking the best team player plays in.
This is my biggest issue with the current ranking system; leaderboards say nothing about how good a player is. Like Doc above me stated, it’s certainly possible to go up in the leaderboards by soloing, but even then, that still doesn’t give a very clear indicator of how good a player you are, just how good your past teammates have been.
I’m trying to figure out an algorithm to determine the value of individual players right now. It’s difficult, admittedly.

#1. I am talking about ‘elitism’ not ‘being elite’. Buy a dictionary.
#2. No? So if one decides to try out other classes in tpvp he should have his ranking demolished? Also his buddies should avoid having him in the team because their rank will suffer too?
#3. Wow…top 1000 no less. Let me tell you a secret: Do you know why you are able to reach top 1000 via solo que? Because there are not 1000 players in organized decent teams (i.e. game is dead). If there were, you would be behind them. But, enjoy your top ranking in top 1000 or so.
#4. Yeah, ‘being out for 2 months’ does not make me an expert. However, I never said that such thing does make me an expert.
#5. What they did in the past 2 months made the game much worse place. Now you cannot play duels in hotjoins because ppl will see your build. And you cannot really play tpvp with random buddies who are not so good unless you want to be rank 100+; not that these ranks mean anything anyway.
Individual Skill =/= Ability to lead a team. I’ve played against top 100 players and beaten them 1v1 repeatedly but playing against them as a team, they definitely deserved the win. They’re good “team players” in a “team game”, go figure. People mistake their individual skill as some kind of validation that they should be higher ranked than people on the leaderboards. It’s the better teams that win, not the better 1v1’er.
I’m not even going to bother retorting to these blatant misnomers you try to rub off as holding any weight. Good luck in your other games where you try to create threads (for whatever reason) titled "dumb and dumber" and expect anyone to take you seriously and/or engage with you in any constructive conversation.
So, I was out for two months or so and I c things have gotten worse. In general I should not waste time on these forums (or this game either) but still.
Problem #1:
Developers decided to promote elitism. How? Simple, if you play with the team that is not top you are set to lose ranks. It was immediately obvious, if you decide to try 1 or 2 new people for the guild and go into tourneys with them, you can lose 40 ranks with two lost games (my first experience after the ladder came out).
Nice, move. Now people who care about ranks are supposed to only play with the best possible team they can get into (no matter how much slack time that forces)?
Nice design.Problem #2:
Ranks should have been per (account, class), not per account. (Discourages players from trying different classes). Also, if you want to practice, custom servers (and dueling ones) are there, just go there and practice like mad untill you get confortable enough with your skill.Problem #3:
You are unable to rank player, you are actually ranking the best team player plays in.…etc
problem 1: lost ranks can be regained once your team/new people gets better, so it’s not a big deal (unless said people are just awful with no improvement margin, but that’s another story)
problem 2: mhh, I’m just going to delete my lv2 thief and create a new one with low rank so I can stomp low ranked people, see the problem here?
problem 3: there is no such thing as a high ranked team with a weak player inside, if you got a weak side point holder (for example), you’re going to lose as a whole team, and the whole team rating will diminish

Every chain has a weak point.
1. I don’t think there was a reasonable way to avoid this for GW2. If you only play when the best-of-the-best teammates are on, you’ll also get out of practice, so…cuts both ways.
2. I don’t mind that ratings are per account, but it would be awesome if there were a reasonable place to practice a new profession. In general, hotjoins just aren’t useful for testing a new build or improving.
3. Technically true, but again, no reasonable way around it for this game.
tl;dr: need ranked solo queue badly.
The best way to deal with this is to just not worry so much about your rank until your team has gotten to a competitive level. It’s much better to just enjoy the game than it is to obsess over a number — it only matters as much as you let it do. If you’re a good player, then other people will figure that out; you don’t need a silly number to prove it. Having been at the top myself, I can say that building a good team takes a substantial time investment, so prepare for a shaky rating until you’ve strengthened your teamwork.
not that these ranks mean anything anyway.

TADA!! That’s why there should be team charters and team ranks/rating and solo queue with solo rank/rating.

If you only soloqueue, and only means only if you solo all the time even if you group 20% of the time that doesnt count as soloqueing, and are ranked in the top 1000 its got to be toward the very end or you have played a relatively small ammount of matches and have been very lucky. Play a minimum of 10 matches day solo like I do and get back to me on how great this system is and how easy it is to be in the top 1000 soloqueuing. Your characters name would be appreciated too in case I ever run into awesomeness in a match I want to be fully appreciative of it.

Both areas of excellence should rewarded. Individual skill should always be recognized and rewarded. Group excellence is not the same and individual skill and vice versa. Many very good groups have carried average to below average players. Anyone that has played competitve pvp games and switched between groups in games and go to know people understands that people get carried all the time for whatever reason chemisty, rl friendship whatever. Go ask Leborn James and Dwayne Wade how important Shane Battier, Mario Chalmers, and Udonis Haslem is if you could force them to drink truth serum they would tell you they could win win almost any 3 average players around. There are individually great players.
