Promoting teamwork and continuity in hotjoin.
-Offer award chests for consecutive wins in hotjoin. 3,5,10 and bronze, silver, gold respectively.
I really like this idea. I can imagine pugs discussing in chat if they are going to “go for some chests” or not. I think it would really encourage people to play to win if they know they are going to get some extra glory and loot for their efforts.

I was also thinking matches may even get more competitive as they played longer against each other.
For more team communication I think it would need:
1) a sufficient amount of downtime (which it generally doesn’t have). There’s a very short downtime before the match. During the match, it’s possible that there’s downtime during point capture, but usually in any particularly competitive match the opposing team is there to contest it.
2) and better tools for communication (e.g., drawing lines on the map like in GW1).
Anyways, because of the auto-balance (and ability to join with friends), I don’t think consecutive win rewards are a good idea.

I think the positives of giving players incentive to stick together for a couple matches outweigh the negatives. One could simply switch back once more joined. Also, it could, perhaps, be set so that if you are autobalanced to another team a lose doesn’t count against you.

Yeah, bring back the drawing an map pings. Maybe add some pre-scripted phrases too. Like if you see an enemy and target them, they’ll ping on the map. Maybe add an built in mic system too. Anything that can easy up on the need to stop and type.

I like the calls Hi-Rez put into SMITE if anyone’s played the beta. Some are very detailed like…
“Enemy missing middle/right/left”
“Enemy returned middle/right/left.”
“Behind us!”
“Attack (insert tower)!”
etc…
hotjoin will never be a place for rewards or for structure that would defeat the whole point of it. its for brand new just bought the game ppl to go muck around until they either find a guild or meet friends in it then they learn the basics and can move on to free.
i am sorry right now that ppl use hotjoin as an escape from frees because at this point in time premades are making it ZERO fun for pugs but after this monday i bet we will see that all change.
if you want to see why i think that go read this and even reply if you want https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/great-idea-what-do-you-think/first#post843913
but good job on the post

These aren’t meant to make hotjoin an extremely competitive place. These are meant to encourage teamwork and communication among the players. Hotjoin staying casual is fine, but the disconnected feeling from the players around is not. Your thread is great, but is irrelevant to the point of this post.
- get rid of skirmishing bonus. no rewards for fighting over nothing.
- make point caps worth 10 points total instead of for each player ( so 5 players waiting for a node to cap will receive 2 points each )
the only problem i have with consecutive wins giving chests is that the players are shuffled on map change, so in game 2 there might be 3 people on a team that won last round & 5 people who lost last round, which might prove difficult trying to get everyone on board for playing to win with a staggered roster.
i think that suggestion is moving in the right direction though. incentives for victory are needed in hotjoin to make teamwork important.

You can draw and ping on the map http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map
you just need to party up to be able to see it.

Oh thanks for that, I was not aware of the drawing capability.
That said, sPvP still needs this functionality since ppl aren’t in parties.
