Proposed changes to improve Hotjoin (Read)
Hotjoin has devolved into a glory farming zergfest. Most players don’t care about winning, only about points. Why? Because there are no meaningful rewards or incentives to win, other than an extremely small glory bonus.
I don’t think it devolved at all. It never was anything but that, and that’s a shame. I honestly think it’s the DEVs intention for this mode to be just a hotmess.
Edit: also, these are great ideas, but every one of them have been said since the start of launch, and that’s because people realize how much they would help SPVP. The problem is, it’s either not on the agenda, or so far on the backburner for Anet that you are pretty much wasting your breath (like I did when I suggested some of these)
While you’re at it put 5v5 on top,
The ONLY way to change hotjoins from the state they are currently in, is to remove the hotjoin part. The fact that people are able to jump in and out at will does not encourage playing for the win, rather it encourages trying to get as many points as possible so you can rank up and get more glory points.
If you want to play to win, the way hotjoins form needs to be restructured, or you could go join the free tPvP games available, you get plenty more points for winning those matches, as well as a reward chest if you pass at least 1 round.

They should change it to a single match solo queuing system or get rid of it. OP makes a good point in saying that most people start with Hot Join, and in my opinion it is a deterrent to more organized play. Changing the point structure would be a less radical change (and therefore more likely to change) and might reduce the point farming.

Jumping in and out isn’t the issue. Win bonus isn’t high enough and the points are skewed to reward things less important to what they want to emphasize.
Enough games don’t have this issue to the same extent with their own lobbies.
Adding 8v8 from the start at least at launch was a mistake. They alienated their own standard.
