PvE tournament has more viewers than PvP
I would watch some sPvP videos if there were 2vs2 or 3vs3 arenas with interesting strategies and synergies between team members, but I have no reason to watch 5vs5 conquest mess on a 3 node map, with sumo wrestlers pushing people off rings.
Even duels are more enjoyable to watch.

Yeah I enjoy watching 2v2 or 1v1 more than conquest.

The most entertaining thing about watching a spvp tournament are the shout casters trying to describe to the viewer what the smallest scaled asura’s camouflaged by particle clutter are actually doing.
i’m a pvper and i’m “forced” to play pve…. so it’s not a surprise for me….
you guys realize there are weekly 2v2 and 3v3s right
It has more viewers than most of their ToL tournament which they promoted everywhere, put on their official channel, and gave away legendarys to viewers.

Necromancer/Casual Warrior
[Team] Best WvW guild of all time. EASILY.
So 1,000 players out of how many hundreds of thousands of PvErs, versus 100 of a whole few thousand players. The actual percentage of the playerbase of the gamemode watching is completely incomparable, PvE has a LOT more players than PvP, of course they can pull a measly 1k. I mean, just the guilds of the people competing could be up to 4k players…
Honestly, no surprise, this is a pve game with a mini spvp side (like a mini game), a lot of people are only interested to pve.
And they have no infrastructure to shoutcast in a good way the event e and no anet sponsorized prizes in chat, so an event like this could reach, 5k-10k viewers in easy way with a better organization

I wonder if Water Baloon TDM Tournament had more views. It probably would

In ToL BLU and Sireph were both shout casting out of their bedrooms LOL. I don’t fault them at all for doing that but at least use an ArenaNet background thingy like they do at celebrity photoshoots.
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.
Its not that surprising. PVE has a much bigger player base in almost every MMO that has pvp. Just means you guys gotta pull your weight when pvp tournies come around :P

Let’s not forget that arenanet promoted that GW2 would be esports PvP… It claimed nothing for PvE, just your underrated pve, mine as well play world of warcraft and do real raids than watch somebody do gw2 wimpy bosses not even compareable to raids.
No, ANet’s advertising team promoted that, the devs themselves, you know the people who actually make the game, did not. They also claimed a lot for PvE, frankly.
Your definition of “PvE” does not equal “dungeon PvE”. I can safely say that most of the playerbase playing this game is either too inept, scared, lazy, dumb or just too bad for dungeons and would rather mindlessly zerg in open world.
“We”(the toxic dungeon elitist players) despise anything open world PvE(aka. mindless zerging+afk ranging). It doesn’t help anet literally forces us to do open world boss zerging to get Dragonite ore(which is a component in Ascended gear) and a LOT of it(500 per weapon, 1500 per armor set), so don’t put us under one carpet, please.
But yeah, i agree with most posts here. We definitely need new PVP game modes, new challenging small group(5-10) Dungeon(or even raid) content. Fractured hardly counts as new content for that matter, before some people come in here and scream how “PvE” gets all the content, since it nerfed loot drops hardcore and only recycled a handful of past living story stuff, except the thaumanova reactor.
Game over, yo.

pve is just repetition at least pvp you have to adapt
Top rated GvG matchups also pull in 700+ viewers.
Unfortunately, PvP in this game is fun to play, but it is really boring to watch.
The unsupported “violating my game mode” GvG from Saturday pulled comparable viewers to the esportz tournament that Anet had to bribe people to watch with precursors.

The OP doesn’t know what he’s saying. That tournament had like 50-60 viewers. Even the Mistpedia Weeklies get a couple hundred.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.

And GvG is more fun to watch? It’s 40 people running around with their heads cut off while spamming abilities with no clue of what it’s actually doing. It’s very easy to do because if you are a bad player and mess up, no one notices because there’s 19 other people on your team that can make up for your mistakes. In sPvP, it’s very punishing if you mess up because it’s a lot more difficult to make up for your mistakes.

Our dungeon invitational had a solid 1.3 – 1.5k

I can vouch this, since I watched up to semis.
Master of all Professions
sPvP Rank Dragon – 8 Champ Titles – Ruby Division
It was fun to watch and be a part of, simple as that really. It had the best of both worlds. Fun PvE content with PvP-esque brackets, rounds, and rulesets. There was plenty of high-risk high-reward plays that were made and the shoutcasters made it even more enjoyable to watch. They did a good job of explaining why certain techniques are better than others for the viewers. The guilds were basically presented as teams and people were rooting for their favorite team. There were highs and lows all around, but I can promise everyone that the next tournament will be even more enjoyable for everyone
That’s just really surprising how this game is focused on pve.
I would never think that those records versus IA in pve would have more interest than tournaments in pvp.
For sure there’s only one game mode but pvp matches are still more interessting to watch than this imo.
In gw, you could definitely see how gvgs, scrim and ha were on top instead of doa, fow, uwsc…

Spoken like someone who has no idea what they’re talking about.
The gvg between Agg and TA had 1.1k-1.2k viewers, and, unlike spvp, nobody had to bribe viewers with precursors to get them to watch.

You missed the point of this whole thread, which is that PvP does not attract viewers. If ToL didn’t have such great giftaways, do you think anyone would be watching? It likely wouldn’t be over 300.
I actually enjoy viewing PvP videos as I find it helps me with my game. I don’t watch tournament videos though because I cannot stand listening to the shoutcasters tell me what I am seeing. I can see just fine and really do not need obvious things explained to me by people watching the exact same thing I am watching.
I tried watching some of the previous tournament videos, but had to turn the volume off so that I did not have to listen to descriptions of what I was seeing. As far as I am concerned all any announcer or shoutcaster has to say is:
“Did you see that?!?! So did I!!”
And they’re done…
Thanks.
“You can get more results with a kind word and a big stick,
than you can with merely a kind word.”
Well, the shoutcasters in this game are usually calling the wrong thing or missing important details. The second I turned on the stream today, I heard them talk about a necromancer blowing someone up, when it was all the thief, and having Lich Form ready, when he was conditions and his hotbar clearly had Plague.
Wow, you actually listen to them…
All I ever hear is noise.
Thanks.

Problem isn’t pvp is bad. PvP isn’t really bad and its also not because theres no official 2v2 3v3. Its because rank means nothing, leaderboards mean nothing, everything pvp related means nothing.
In GW1, they had a lot of viewers because rank meant something, not everyone and there mother is a dragon rank. Leaderboards meant something because you could easily tell which guild was the best and then the final fact pvp meant something because you’d see ‘xxx guild yada yada the halls of heroes’ ‘north America now has the underworld…’ whatever it said, I quit that game awhile back but I remember something like that and pvp was a big deal in that game and that’s why.
I don’t recall any 2v2 3v3 in gw1. So don’t yap about 2v2 3v3 bullkitten. LoL, I don’t recall any 2v2 3v3 in that game either which also has a lot of viewers, so stop yapping about 2v2 3v3 is the savior bullkitten, even that 1v1 is bullkitten too.
the only reason pve has more viewers its coz pve is easier to understand and play, more casuals more views. They waste they time in GvG clusterfak and they enjoj in illusion that they are good, not to attack any1 offcourse
PvE has just as much depth as PvP. The only diffrence is the human factor you don’t have in PvE (which makes things more messy and pointlessly flashy).
Wat. The reason PvP has depth is the human factor. So you’re saying it’s just as deep, except for the factor that makes it deep.
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
The fact that we didn’t even know optimal team compositions until like, the past year and are still learning things about the classes in PvE demonstrates that there’s a level of depth there.
PvP and PvE have two different types of depth, but depth nonetheless. Unless you want to descend in to mindless mudslinging where you call PvE afk stack press 1 and I call PvP afk’ing on points with bunker builds, but that isn’t even remotely constructive nor true.
The goal in PvE is to make every run identical. In PvP, that’s unrealistic as to not even be a goal. The complexity is on a different scale when you have to react, instead of repeat. I’m not saying PvE doesn’t have good things, but still :P
