pretty much yea.. Thief/Warr went underground after HoT. feeling like im forced to play Scrapper/Ele/Reaper tho i enjoy only Thief. anyone feels like that? or should i ask anyone that DOESNT feel like that? it’s quite a pity to just quit/delete your main class and roll some other that you don’t really enjoy. the question is then – should i even bother playing? i mean.. games are all about fun right? playing a class that isn’t fun just makes no sense. playing a class just to be strong doesn’t make sense either. don’t want to rant and QQ but seriously.. devs.. you need to fix this (build options shouldnt be limited to 1 or 2. same goes for classes). and fix it fast. i see more and more people just giving up and leaving to other games just because they are tired of playing 1-2 classes with the same 1-4 builds. gw used to be fun because of build diversity. you could really roll any build/class (b4 2015June-HoT) you’d come up with and still be quite competetive in PvP.. and now? well… yea.. :/ (oh and yes – all of the above somewhat applies to WvW competetive side too)

I don’t think so it’s just that you have to not be brain dead or have brain dead teammates to make custom off meta builds destroy meta builds because metabattle builds in my honest opinion get’s wrecked in the face off against off meta builds that are designed to counter them.

I maybe a troll with class.
But at least I admit it!

People keep saying that the build and class diversity is bad now, but it’s never been worse than it was the whole year leading up to the HoT release. No, you couldn’t roll any class/build before before if you actually wanted to win against competent teams. The meta was rustled some by the introduction of burn guard as well as the mediham + thief duo for a short while then it went back to the same boring bruiser heavy team comp tripe that stacked cele amulet users with loads of sustain.

And I would happily take that over what we have now. There were still non meta builds that actually did quite well unless against an organized team

Balance should always happen from the top though. What happens in lower tiers of PvP is really quite irrelevant as long as it doesn’t go too far like with the turret engis back then.

Balance for 1vs1 is really hard an will make it bad for team fights.
1vs1 fights and 5v5 fights are really distant in mechanics, strategy, builds.
You will simply find all classes good in 1vs1 but that when in a teamfight come up that 2 classes that can simply kill all the others easy, just why have more AoE (damage or cc) or better defensive skills that make them able to fight more opponents at a time than just one.

I prefer to build the game around a team of 5 players like the spvp actually is (still if the balance is bad) why match the playstyle of that game.

The main problem of build diversity is Metabattle and Unorganized teams.

Why premades win against pugs, still if sometimes they’re worst?

Simply stop to pick up the build from metabattle or the “meta” one and start to look at your team. Speak with your friends, make a strategy, chose the roles, make builds able to fight in the role you want to play and see how easy you will kill pugs!

Also, in that, thief and warrior aren’t bad, totally. Thief and warriors lack of the defensive skills of the other classes (unless if you’re a really good thief and know how to escape by danger with teleport and hide), but have much more mobility and damage.

A good daredevil can kill a “op” reaper in 1vs1 really easy simply spamming D/D skill n3 and some dodges with a viper amulet, making him unable to reflect conditions back and then unable to cover the amount of conditions they recive (thief weapon skills also aren’t affected by chill, making them ever better), also Rise minions will not hit you, then will not active they’re effect, anche if a condition occour, another dodge and it will disappear. (I tried it, is absolutly funny kill a reaper that think to be OP and see how much bad words will wishper to you XD)
Also the thief is the best decapper class ever and with it’s AA damage increased is really a danger for everyone that fall under 50%hp in mid (a good thief have to focus the enemies that are under Xhp and take them down quickly, then stomp and move away, waiting for another chance).
Thief is the best stomper/resser, expecially after the quickness stomp/ress nerf.

A warrior with a rifle can do really good as a range dps with a insane AoE damage every 2.5 seconds while in berserker. It’s a perfect way to kill enemies in mid from range while another player is tanking.
For whure, the warrior need a team that can support him, a tank and eventually a healer to help him when focused (a good ele can do both the reoles at once)

There’s a lot of ways to use your class and be still good.

There’s a large amount of builds able to fight in a good organized team, the only problem is that no one want to make a well organized team.

The balance is made for top tier pvp, not for low/mid pvp. And also is made fot 5vs5, not for 1vs1. There’s classes good for 1vs1 but also classes good for team fights.

If the balance was made for 1vs1 there was a 1vs1 pvp section, but there’s not, then the balance is made for 5vs5 team fights.

I would much rather Anet make a 1v1 game mode/league with many maps, rewards, and such. Or Anet can put in basic quick team communication hotkey commands like all the other sPvP Battle Arenas out. But laziness and lack of true focus in sPvP pretty much destroys this game mode for many competitive pvp players.

Since HoT’s release, every class has been streamlined to fit the meta, but that’s mainly because in order to even attempt to survive, players have to take very specific traits or set ups. With how strong conditions are right now, and how easy it is to do AoE, you need to take lota of condition cleanses.

All Engineers must take Alchemy if they want to survive. Necros have to go condition damage or hybrid because power necros don’t have cleanses on their weapons. All Mesmers must take cleanse on shatter or else be fodder. Warriors and Revenants can try to just eat the conditions with stances and resistance, but one corruption and it’s over. (Revs survive because of having the Herald heal and passive Dwarf 50% less condition damage. Warriors have Defiance stance heal, but without healing signet, they die instantly.) I could go on.

With these very specific set ups, most classes are stuck with taking the elite specialization plus one defensive trait line. That only leaves one specialization open for variance, and even then, it won’t change that much for the whole atmosphere of spvp.

And how is that different than now? As for the organized teams I solo q as do a lot of others. The friends I use to play with have already left this game. And balance by group is why you have certain classes that are now forced into certain roles ex. Heal bot ele where if balance was decided by 1v1 this wouldn’t be the case

you should play what you whant to do. what you should NOT do is getting higher ranked with one class and then switch to thief, cause tthat will be really hard and you wont fell the game is ballanced.
Thiefs are ok fun and at even skill level its a ok ballanced class. (if you dont get trapped in some DH traps without endurence and shadowstep)
