PvP Guide for Newbies - Map Awareness
PvP Gameplay Programmer
Awesome! Having in-game examples of what you’re talking about is incredibly helpful. I just feel like I wanted more than 1 example per talking point though!
Bra (80 Guard), Fixie Bow (80 Ranger), Wcharr (80 Ele)
Xdragonshadowninjax (80 Thief)
I’ll keep that in mind for next time! Thanks Evan =) I actually have my nice little notepad for things to improve on, haha.
Look at baby Killchain, trying to improve his content. <3
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
Killchain is also the sensei of stomping Wurms. Attuned

As for stomping:
almost never do it just deal ae-dmg like no tomorrow much more effective in most cases. Okay Im zerker ele, so thats what i do anyway^^.
On some rare occasions I still stomp but thats very situative.
As for Map Awareness:
A look on the minimap would be very good for some ppl….
Im fed up seeing ppl fight 5 meters (whatever the ingame equivalent ist) next to a point while that point is getting captured.
Or the moment they captured a point and go away someone of enemy team captures that point, but they dont even see that the very moment they left an enemy player captures that point.
Sometimes I just think a lot of players are bots.
Cause I cant imagine so much ppl being blind.
Lack of map awareness annoys me most if I see it from “allies”.
Probably because it’s the most obvious thing if you yourself have map awareness^^
And because Í think thats much easier to get map awareness than mastering your class,
if one is bad at 1v1 or in team fights it is one thing, but in a game mode were map control is basically everything it should be common sense to take a look at the minimap and looking around.

my stomping rule of thumb:
-never stomp eles
-only stomp thieves if you have a blink
-stomping mesmers is bad practice, but doable if you have a blink or if he already teleported
-don’t DPS rangers or warriors unless you can kill them faster than they can use their #3
-stomp everyone else

I can dps rangers faster (usually), but yes once they get their healing up you pretty much have no chance dpsing them
and I dont wanna waste my lightning flash for just stomping.
I usually DPS warriors as well cause I know they interrupt my first stomp, so if they have revenge rdy he uses it at second stomp try or when he gets too low makes no difference for me, if I expect the Warrior to use revenge Ill leave him up to my Elemental and get to a distance where he cant kill me in revenge in order to ralley xD.
Usually I get Guardians down faster with dpsing them than with stomping as well
=> almost never stomp

-don’t afk/leave game at skyhammer
Btw: It’s Sey-Shi-zo ^.^

well i play thief, so blinding/stealthing to avoid interrupts is no problem, and there’s always a teleport to spare :P
if someone’s already stomping a warrior, stand in front of them to soak the hammer rather than starting your own stomp :O
also you may not want to stomp if you have a necro buddy nearby, because it is necromancer tradition to drink the blood of their fallen enemies
On all of my characters except my Necro, I have a skill, utility or tactic that helps me stomp.
Mesmer: Decoy or Distortion before stomp. (Not always needed.)
Ranger: Rampage as One (if still active) or LB #3 for stealth before stomping.
Elementalist: Armor of Earth/Mist Form before stomp.
Warrior: Balanced Stance before stomp.
Eles, Thieves and Mesmers always use downed skill 2 to delay their being stomped. Not much you can do about that.
Blocks, stability or stealth will let you stomp Rangers, Necromancers, Warriors, Guardians and Engineers without issues. (I find that Engineers hardly ever bother trying to stop me though. Not sure why.)
^stealth can prevent mesmers #2 as well, provided you were the only target available
Sometimes I just think a lot of players are bots.
Cause I cant imagine so much ppl being blind.
From what i’ve seen, they ARE that blind. Don’t ask how but they are.
Maybe there are too many engineers and thieves around these people IRL? =P
Maybe, but then why don’t they read what some try to write in chat.
When at 460-435 after having capped 2 points, i ask: “stay close” … just WHY does the ele leave it again so the enemy mesmer has a free cap? The mesmer has been doing that all match long and the ele SHOULD know by now that he does not have the speed to get back in time. So why not at least consider the mini map, the request of team mates and sit on that point? Is it really hard to just not go anywhere?
Thats true, that situation is where lets ASSUME they do at least know, theres that mentality of who cares, winning matches has the stigma that it ultimately doesn’t mean anything with leaderboards being the way they are…./shrug it does suck but im sure that’ll change in due course.

well letting the enemy bleed out is only a valid tactic when you know the guy won’t get backup. i’d rather not risk leaving someone unattended because of the necro on my team if the guy has teammates that might try to rez him.

eh, i’d rather get stomped fast so i can respawn fast, unless there’s actually a chance of being rezzed. if i’m just delaying the inevitable, i find i’m better off being stomped than bleeding out or delaying my respawn by 5-10 seconds.
