PvP "Prestige"
Honestly, the top 5 have played a decent amount of games so far. It’s been a week…
I make PvP & WvW videos
Yah if you count all their alt accounts in the top 25 they have a lot of games
Yeah I’m not really seeing the problem here.
Alts is a whole other issue.
Returning to the topic;
The situation as it stands encourages players not to play. I think that the match quality is decreasing because fewer are playing. If you queue up, you risk your MMR.
Another reason match quality may be decreasing is the presence of so many alts.
You’re right, match quality is decreasing because a lot of people in the top 250 are trying to sit at their current MMR.
I think it’s wrong to say our top players have a few amount of games played. It’s been about a week and people have lives… 4 of the top 5 have over 50 games played already
I make PvP & WvW videos
I think fishball was trying to point out that by not taking into account number of games played, it allows the pros to abuse the system.

That’s a reasonable summary of what I was trying to communicate.
It’s been a problem since day 1. 9-1 or 10-0 placements let them sit on the very top or snipe a spot in the top 250 in the last week of the season.
I think Evan will probably address this eventually, he seems to be on top of things this season.
There’s an obvious issue here. I have 85 games and have fallen 2 division in the past day or so* . I play and in so doing risk my MMR.
*(possibly due to wider mmr ranges. I went from over 50% wins to closer to 40% in a matter of a day.)
Our “top players in the game” have as few as 27 games. This creates two issues;
First, there’s a strong incentive NOT to play since playing risks one’s win ratio. The last thing PvP needs is to encourage players not to play.
This may be a reason for the wider ranging matchmaking. Too few players are willing to risk there standing by playing.
Second, that small a number of games is not a very reliable test of skill.ANET should take into account games played AND win ratio.
Anet does take into account game played with their Mmr info.
just because a player may play more games does not mean they should be placed higher in the ladder or have a higher Mmr since this is more of a skill based system vs the last 4 seasons which were all grind based. If the players skill doesn’t improve then that player will never move up the Ladder.
Granted they do need to make the decay system less forgiving and should implement a number of games played each day into the equation now.
You think those players keep their rank with 10-1 or something?
I was with my second account 2 days or maybe 3 not playing ranked and got decay of 200 and got from p3 into p1 had to play few games to get back to p3 again.
Insteed of complaining about the system just get better in the game lol
First of all rethink are you really that pro or what’s wrong?
The first 4 pvp seasons were a joke 90% of the division 6 players were all bad trolls.
Now that you actually really need skill to reach legendary all complain how???
And last if you would be all so pro it should be no problem to rank up atleast to plat and complaining on the forum will for sure help you all :-O
So you hit the bracket you deserve to be in and started losing. Skill.cap.

They didn’t take your Total PvP games played tho. I think they should’ve. This gives them statistics if you really know how to play pvp or not.
rn the top 10 in NA is:
katsumi – 4th in ToL (as a sub)
paul – 2nd in ToL
nos – 1st in ToL
toker – 1st in ToL
booms – 1st in ToL
toker again – 1st
ementon – 3rd in PL S2 (didnt play ToL)
nos again – 1st
zeromis – 2nd in ToLK
thermite – only rando whos been farming games on a stupid symbol build
seems pretty correct to me

To summarize my initial idea; The leader board evidently doesn’t punish simply playing a few games and then stopping.
This means several things.
First it is better from a leader board point of view not to play. Playing risks a drop in MMR. Such a situation isn’t good for PvP.
Second, it’s not accurate to determine skill from a very small number of games in one case and a large number of games in another. So, the ability to stop playing implies that skill will not be measured with an even metric. If that is the case, the leader board loses quite a bit of it’s prestige.
Third, it is likely that players who stopped playing a main to preserve leader board standing are playing on alts instead. This means that the situation remains in flux, while these alt accounts find there level.
In simple terms, the situation with the leader board may be dropping match quality.

Complete opposite for me. As someone who has been playing PvP very often, I have steadily been climbing up the ranks just by playing more.
Easy solution. Make a minimum amount of games played required to get a shot at the title. Something around 150 games played seems reasonable for me.
[5/8 Champion Titles – Legendary Division] [19k+ AP]
[BEER – Dungeon Riders – Desolation]
I don’t see anything wrong with requiring a minimum amount of games played by the end of the season to obtain the title and rewards. However, I also don’t see anything wrong with the amount of games the top players have played so far. It’s not so different from my own, and I’ve played a fair bit so far. People do deserve to have lives outside of video games after all. Also, unless you are playing in legend or high platinum divisions, then I highly doubt that the top 250 players not playing a ridiculous amount of games is having some negative impact on your matchmaking.
I 100% agree with having a required minimum number of games played in order to get the rewards, because the system is designed around playing a good number of games in order to be accurate. And, obviously, the more games you play, the more accurate your skill rating will be.
But i definitely can’t agree with you when you say “there is no incentive to play”.
First of all, not playing means no pips, and no rewards, when the league system is a great way to get quite a good amount of gold and loot in pvp. (Of course, pure pvp players won’t care for those, but pure pvp players don’t care about any rewards and play pvp because they enjoy pvp in the first place and want to get better at it.)
Moreover, if you don’t play, you don’t gain any mmr, and will lose rating thanks to the decay system. Playing is the only way to increase your rating, so yes, while you do risk losing that rating, you will lose it anyway because of the decay system.
And last of all, there is no reward tied to your skill rating exept for the little badge that you can hide anyway, and, if you’re in the top 250, a cool prestigious title.
Skill rating is nothing more than an indicator of your current level in pvp, losing or gaining skill rating is meaningless as long as you don’t aim for these top 250 spots.
