dont loose hope. the current state is terrible, HoT looks even worse, but one day rangers will get a good pvp build. it might not be any time soon, the first few viable builds might get nerfed into oblivion within 24h, but it will happen some day.

Besides rangers where very strong the first two gw2 betas (the core ones 3 years ago), they had their time, cant be to greedy, let other classes shine for a while too.

as much as i like the druid in general, its absolutely not a pvp profession. there is no room for pure healer in 5-man pvp. druid has no offensive capabilities and very little synergy with core ranger. Rangers only semi-viable pvp build the power LB gets worse if it drops BM or MM/SK for druid, it cant drop WS because thats the only source of reliable condi cleanse and dmg mitigation (not to mention fury, reduced CD on best stunbreak/heal etc.).
On top of it all the projectile hate is massive in new specs and on the revenant, plus lots of other classes are getting better.

Ranger is in hopeless state on HoT launch. It will take several balance passes and weapon reworks (because basicly all ranger weapons are very very weak) to get a viable build going. And to get a build thats actually competitive? thats a pipe dream for the foreseeable future

Watch the next ranger elite be some hammer wielding monster of a melee class. Which also is not what rangers generally want (to be ranged dps monsters).

The 3rd and final of the planned elites may finally…just maybe…get rid of the kitten dable handicap of the pet. Wouldn’t that be nice? I mean, ok, I love the pets but most of the time in any challenging content that pet is a liability and we are balanced against having it as a damage source no less.

im actually pretty good at ranger. You say it yourself its not viable at top level (this is the thread about 400k pro league), its a clear weakness if you run it and you will be punished for it. You can get away with playing ranger in regular play (i do pretty good on mine actually, maintain a good win record and high MMR), or maybe even mid-level competitive if you are godlike on it, but its clearly inferior to every other class.
Its not getting anything useful in hot (for pvp that is, i love the druid otherwise), its only good current build is getting weaker because of all the projectile reflects/blocks coming in hot. Im afraid its not going to be viable even for pugging the regular queue come HoT launch. 2,5k ranked games on a ranger, i will try to make it work for sure, but im very sceptical.

I think it will be pro league viable. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

It’s a nice thing, for a select few. But it’s also a bit of a joke. I might be as skilled as some of the best, but I never will look it because I live on the other side of the world of the servers. So that half a second lag is always going to be a huge handicap for me. Unless it’s played on a LAN it will never be fair.

the funny thing is is that pro league is going to be the top AG/mid esl level. Plus I proved myself wrong, seeing that 2/4 of the top 4 monthy finalists for september ran rangers. this is a getgud problem

i dont see LB/staff combo working, not with marauder not with any zealot version. It cant kill anything, staff does almost no damage and CA does none. LB pressure drops significantly at close range and you loose GS to swap for maul combo. Not to mention you have to drop a dmg traitline (marks/skirm or BM) for druid which has no offensive synergy really.

LB/GS could be a thing with MM/WS/DR, try and make Moment of Clarity work with those dazes and entangle gm. But that means back to having a miserable pet that just runs around missing with every attack. You do bring team heals but unlike current ranger you cant kill anyone 1v1. IMO druid will have to wait for a balance patch that gives it some offence somewhere (staff/traits/CA) before its playable in pvp. I do hope im wrong (and i often am when it comes to theory crafting builds) but i just dont see it with such a significant dmg drop you suffer when you use anything druid related.

And pure healer doesnt fit in pvp at all imo.

Ranger is played on one of the top four teams on NA currently and is bound to be on at least 2-3 teams come pro leagues. Don’t count them out for HoT either!
